2183581 tn?1369937547 But I have been in chronic pain for the past few years. And have been struggling for the past year with no insurance. Fighting with doctors dealing with stolen meds, bad massage therapist, bad acupuncture, and trying to deal with my life. Okay another the catch up my post for my question is related to this. I finally broke down and paid cash to see a pain management doctor in desperation hoping that he could help me get off the couch.
1826775 tn?1321633072 I think there are a couple of people here who use or have used methadone for pain control. I have never used it myself, but it was offered to me as a medication to try to control my pain. After I researched it, I felt like you. I was concerned about what if I wanted to get off it. I was told they would help me taper off if that time came but I was likely going to need pain meds forever. I just wasn't comfortable with it for me personally.
Avatar n tn Do you plan on discontinuing the methadone or do you want to stay on the methadone and go to pain management for procedures? Or additional medications? If you're on methadone for addiction, you may find it difficult to find a pain management doctor to take you on as a patient. However, if you're getting your methadone from a clinic, perhaps someone at the clinic would have a recommendation for you.
Avatar m tn Were you seeing a pain specialist before or were you seeing your family Dr?I'm asking because if was your family Dr some of them know little about how to manage chronic pain. A pain specialist does. That's what I would recommend, getting in to see a pain specialist. Ask your family Dr to recommend one or you can do your own research on the internet to find one with high patient ratings. One that truly understands their patients and their needs.
Avatar f tn For anyone who has ever taken Methadone for chronic pain management...When you first started taking Methadone, how long did it take for it to control your pain? How many days, weeks, etc.? My best friend was started on Methadone to manage completely debilitating chronic pain that is the result of multiple, major, back-to-back abdominal surgeries. Tonight marks the fourth full day of her being on Methadone, and she's really not feeling any better. How long can it take?
Avatar n tn s beneficial in pain reduction and control for you that seems to be the important fact. I have read some great articles on the benefits of methadone for pain management. Some physicians beleive it is the best route. I have also heard some chronic pain patients state the withdrawal is the worst. However other patients name different drugs and claim the same. I really beleive it's what works for the individual.
1774104 tn?1314215207 I would think that if you are truly addicted versus dependent, than Subutex or methadone may be a good fit for you. My pain management team had discussed using methadone with me for pain management. I have some nerve pain that seems to be very difficult to treat with narcotics. But after doing a lot of research, I decided that methadone wouldn't be the right fit for me. I have seen some articles recently regarding Subutex/Suboxone with regard to pain control.
Avatar n tn It can literally last for months. The main candidates for dieing generally have a pre-existing condition that has been neglected........
939983 tn?1262528060 5 mg of hydrocodone is equivalent to about 15 mg of methadone. But this is for single dose not for long term pain management treatment. Most physicians beleive in the good practice to start low, go slow. Remember that methadone builds up in your system. It is stored in your body tissues. So it may take days before the full effectiveness of methadone is realized. Methadone levels in the blood will continue to increase for five days from the initial dose.
Avatar m tn I am prescribed 6 Norco per day for degenerative osteoarthritis and have gotten to the point that I take all or most first thing in the morning just to get going. Lately, I've been taking up to 10 per day total. I started a little over a year ago with 2 Vicodin per day. I feel like I'm on a merry-go-round. I want the pain relief, I want the buzz but I know this is not working. I can't imagine not using something for the pain. Am I just fooling myself?
Avatar f tn TN is not a methadone friendly state. My pain management specialist had me on methadone for 12 years after trying other optoids with no success. I regained about 70% of my ability to function and good pain relief. I was able to go back to work after a year in bed. With the controversery over the increase of methadone related deaths my doctor decided to wean me off methadone and put me on pain patches, then morphine, then oxy everything.

Avatar n tn If your retired physician keep good records valadiating your need for pain medication and your level of pain you should not encounter as much difficultly obtaining pain control meds as someone who is starting from scratch. They may want to repeat some tests to evaluate where you are now and if you have had any changes over the past 11 months. But I'm sure I am not telling you anything you don't already know. Good luck in your search. I am sorry your pain has increased.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is a newer medication that contains buprenephrine and is commonly prescribed to those looking to beat opioid addiction. However, I have read of others that use it solely for pain management. Buprenephrine also comes in patch form and it is called the Butrans patch. The Butrans patch is strictly used for pain management. So I recommend going slow and listening closely to your doctor with regards to what the next steps are.
Avatar n tn hey....wow you could be a spokes person for methadone pain management....I to started out on it for pain management 40mg a day and at first it worked wonderfully but as it went on my body built up a tolerance to itand slowly my dose over the yrs increased to 150mg going up 5 to 10mg at a time every few mo .....as for the symptoms of withdrawals....they are many ...
Avatar f tn He has been on methadone for 15 years for severe chronic back pain. Before the methadone he could barely get out of bed. Now, 15 years later, he would like to get off the methadone and explore other options. He has come up against a wall because the doctor that has been treating is now refusing to treat him anymore because of a drinking problem. He has tried to quit drinking several times but drinks about three beers a day, just to keep from shaking. Also, he has a pacemaker.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to fine forums on line where I can ask anyone who is experiencing any of these issues like myself..I am 35 years old and have been in pain management for 6 years..I was in a horrible car accident in 1999 which led me to have neck surgery a fusion on my neck..I have a 8 year old that was born in 2003 and that pregnancy was no meds at all..
Avatar m tn If they want you to go see a pain management Dr, I would listen to them. It sounds like to me you are in need of some type of pain management. You do also need to talk to them about your addiction issues (the alcohol and hydros) because you need their help with this. Your drinking, Xanax at night and hydros throughout the day are concerning and IMO you should NOT tackle this alone! Please talk with you Dr(s) about this.
Avatar f tn As my dr is not a pain management specialist and I cannot afford pain management, does anyone have any suggestions that may work for management of the pain without narcartics? I do have to admit that the pain is not as bad as I thought it would be (yet) but I am terrified of never having relief from the pain again...
Avatar f tn Dear MacGeek, All the research I have done in the past they list methadone as a fairly poor drug for effectiveness for relieving pain. I once was using Suboxone for my back pain, but after a one year trial with it I ended up putting up with more pain than I could tolerate, and I literally had to beg my PMP (pain doc) to put me on something else. Today I still have to suffer a lot, and I am presently using 40mg of oxycodone twice a day.
Avatar f tn I just recently moved to the Birmingham area and have used Methadone for pain management for many years are there any physicians in the Birmingham area who prescribe Methadone for. Hronoc severe pain respond to Cot.
1050179 tn?1253899186 Chronic pain patients who have limited access to opioids may be redirected to methadone maintenance centers for management of their pain. Unfortunately, little information exists on the incidence and characteristics of methadone maintenance patients with chronic pain. The aim of this study was to survey individuals at methadone maintenance centers in order to determine the prevalence of chronic pain and to explore differences between patients with and without pain in this treatment setting.
Avatar n tn Some people find methadone a good pain management medication. It was suggested by my pain management doctor to try it. I had been on a lot of medication and at very high doses. What kind of doctor do you see for your pain? If you shared a little more information about the kind of pain you have, how long you've had it, and how you've tried treating it, you may get more responses on people who've had similar problems.
11214965 tn?1416269155 It used to be that we could see our own primary Drs and be treated for any pain whether it be for a short time or for chronic pain. Now, we're forced to go to pain clinics and be treated like prisoners. I have not gotten in to a pain clinic yet or have seen a pain specialist. That time will come soon because I know my primary will not continue to prescribe my pain medication even though I'm trying my best to get by on a low dose.
