methadone effects on the body

Is it possible that beingON the methdone actually was causing my body to run in a way that my thyroid would mess up, and that after quitting methadone the thyroid gland could actually function again normally without themedicine? Or am I stuck on medication for thyroid for the rest ofmy life? Id get a blood test to put this whole issue to rest, but im unemployed atm and dont anticipate being able to get the test for at LEAST another few months...

The methadone will make you tired and this will last for a month or so until your body becomes accustomed. I tried it years ago and I could not stay awake at all no matter how hard I tried. I told my doctor that I just could not function on it and he changed it for me. Talk to your doctor as the others have suggested you may be having an allergic reaction besides the tiredness. I hope it works out well and you can find something else for your pain, some people just can't tolerate methadone.

i went off of them in july and the pain got worse and the worse the pain got the worse the cravings got. so my doctor put me on methadone at a low dose to see if it would help with the pain. the good thing is it doesn't make me high or euphoric like lortab did and it has totally stopped my cravings. i don't know how long i will stay on it, i'm taking it one day at a time. i have heard that it is hard to get off of but can be better if you wean your self off at a slow pace.

My sister was on methadone and she would sweat and begin to feel ill every day at the same time it was time for her to dose. She said the withdrawals from that stuff was so bad she will never go back. She thought she was going to die. No way can I imagine putting a new born through that. I don't think it would go well.

Once I was done with the doc, (halfway thru the weening process) I put my name on the list for a methadone clinic. I knew once the doc was done with me I would have been hunting for another doc & my insurance ***** so it would have been impossible to find anyone. Now I have been going to the methadone clinic for almost 2 yrs. and am back up to 130mg. In away I kind of wish I would have stayed off.

This is my first time asking a question online, but Im not finding very many useful answers on my own. I was put on methadone for an addiction to my prescribed pain killers 4 yrs ago. I am currently on 8mg of methadone and being weaned down 1mg every 4-6 weeks. It has been very difficult for, I have not been myself since Ive been on methadone and I have no energy, cant sleep, irritable, and in alot of discomfort/pain and sooo much more.

I wasn't on methadone but i was on a high dose of hydr for 8 yrs & what helped me detox a little easier was taking a multi vitamin, magnesium, B12, lots of fluids, Imodium & exercise, even if it's just short walks up & down ur driveway or around the house. ve been on methadone for 2yrs I started tapering off in July/08 Its now Dec/o8 I was at 140mgs when I started going down, if anyone has any feedback for me I'd really appreciate it.

telling him that I had pain, this was after going off of the methadone and trying suboxone for pain, when the pain would not go away the Dr. put me back on the methadone. 90mg. 30 three times a day. my clonazapam had the same thing happen, one day it worked and the next it stopped. If I tried a different pharmacy it would work again and then not work the next day.

It does have its uses in heroin or massive pill abuse but if your brother had got down to half a vicodin a day he is really playing with fire using methadone. Try to convince him to stop or come on here and read the methadone horror stories. I have come off pills, heroin, and methadone and the methadone was by far the most drawn out withdrawal of all of them!

I have been told that dairy products, specifically Milk, causes the Methadone to decrease it's effects and that Yogurt enhances the effects of Methadone. Can you clear this up for me? i raised my hand to him on the mix of the added CNS effects to this respiratory deppreshion to the methadone... he stated that its ok...im like they just dont change the meaning of a c,.n.s,. med thats added to the mix of xanax and methadone...so what do u do..i went to cvs to get it filled knowing im right on this...they told me the same thing..that it wont interfere with my mix......the thing is they dont know it wont.....why do pdocs and poharimistact so ignorant for..

If no.....taper down on the methadone and get off ASAP. At the same time, get set up with a psychiatrist and a therapist. You need support...and it sounds like you may have some other mental health issues you need to deal with. Withdrawal is painful physically and mentally. Tapering is painful physically and mentally. You are clearly anxious...anxiety leads to depression quickly...especially when and opiate addict doesn't get what they need.

Hope that helps a lil, o yea reason being the naloxone in the suboxene pretty much in laymen terms will most likely just like it did in my situation, fight your body to pull whatever methadone or w/e else is in your body, out!!! As it was a very extremely unpleasant feeling for me!!!!

HI and welcome to the forum...I was on methadone for 6 1/2yrs and also gained the weight over 50 lb but once I started to taper off it the weight came off as I tapered off part of the problem is it slows down your metabolism the other part is most people crave sweets wile on it so its a double edged sward how long have you been on it??? and have you ever thought of getting off of it??

That would be the key as to whether methadone has any effect on blood sugar-testing. You could also talk to your doctor or to the doctor at the methadone clinic who might actually know more about any possible effect for diabetics.
