what are long term effects of methadone good/bad i am only 28 and been on it for 8 mos all info is welcomed thanks

weight gain, thristy, stomach acid ( have take anti acid daily), monthly cycle is off Hope hear from you any info always helps

I just posted the other day that my doctor prescribed me methadone 5mg twice a day. I also have Norco 5-325 for breakthrough pain. I am allowed to take two Norcos. My question is, do you guys think this is a massive jump from taking hydrocodone-containing products on a daily basis? I just tried the medication and I have a fever of 101.4, feeling completely lethargic and falling asleep performing tasks.

I wish i had never been offered Methadone. I never noticed any side effects up untill about 2yrs ago. I have every known side effect,but the worst one of all at the moment is excessive sweating. My quality of life is zero. I sweat from head to toe most days all day. I sit with ice ,cold can's of juice sitting on my cheek's,my breasts and my wrists. Ive put on 4st in weight,and i know this wont be helping the situation. I don't know what to do anymore.

I felt I should point this out though...Darvocet which is known as propoxyphene is related to methadone which I remember from my former reasearch into this subject. A simple search of google will give you HUNDREDS of cases where people have died from mixing methadone and benzos or other CNS depressents. I actually just went to a funeral of a guy who did that a few months ago (xanax and methadone).

does you doctor mean the side effects on triple are the same if your on methadone as someone thats not on methadone?....looks like a good thing to check into....my doctor recommends certain ads over other ads because of drug interactions...i'll bet a lot of folks take one thing or the other that blocks or impairs the absorption of the hep drugs without even knowing it...i tried to stay away from anything that would interfere with tx drugs including foods like grapefruits....

I have also known many people who have taken methadone. I have never experienced any side effects like you describe or heard of anyone experiencing them. If you have any questions about methadone, i will be willing to answer them best I can.

if methadone has no long term side effects then why about a week after i came off methadone did i urinate blood every time i passed urine for about 24 to36 hours then things cleared up

Some pain meds worked but not for long periods of time. The meds for fibro had intolerable side effects for me. I have been on Methadone for 2 years now becuz i became pregnant and stopping pain meds would've put too much stress on the baby. She is 2 years old now.she's happy and healthy! My issue is that I have found out through my experience in taking liquid methadone that it helps my fibro pain for a long period of time..one dose lasts 24hrs!

I am now taking 60 mg. of methadone, trying to get off of the methadone to become eligible for other pain treatment. I didn't know where to ask this question. The 1st reason I started taking the methadone was due to heroin abuse, which I started to kill the pain from a car accident. I had dabbled in heroin use prior to my car accident. My maintenance clinic knows also, ofcourse~!. I fear taking the lortabs while im on methadone, not the addiction factor because the methadone will block the euphoric effects, but still allow the analgesia that will be much more than just tylenol or ibuprofen alone.will, the 2 together make me really tired orgroggy,I didnt ask the doctor, I still have a guilty conceince from the abuse of pills. Both the same i think. I still have pain, which methadone blocked better but as far as side effects, despite the pain, i like suboxone better so far! WOULD LOVE SUBUTEX THOUGH. Canada ***** for drugs, I wish they prescribed Xyrem here too, lol! You guys get all the goodies!

I'm 5 wks off methadone. Doctor put me on morphine, then raised it, then patches. Now the patches are not staying on. I'm having to replace them and I'm hurting in my back (had 2 back surgeries) and so sick. I think it's side effects from patches. Should I continue wearing them?

t live with the side effects, and want off of meds. The side effects of methadone is much greater than other meds, you will have severe constapation that requires meds, possible urine retention, and sexual side effects. Methadone was the worst medicine I ever took!

I know exactly how he feels, it didn't matter how much I wanted to have desire and feelings, I simply couldn't. I was a zombie. As the years passed I disappeared. I'm sorry your going through this. The only solution for me was to stop taking methadone. I guess this really is up to your BF. Does he plan to stay on meth maintenance for a long time? What kind of recovery is he doing, other than taking methadone?

its great your feeling ok on it maybe because of its long half life, flipside you will get less side effects on that dose i find the lower i go less side effects too, anyhow if you can limit your time on methadone i think the better some will argue that though, and say if your fine why taper at all? the choice is yours and were all different. but its good your feeling well .
