Avatar f tn When you first started taking Methadone, how long did it take for it to control your pain? How many days, weeks, etc.? My best friend was started on Methadone to manage completely debilitating chronic pain that is the result of multiple, major, back-to-back abdominal surgeries. Tonight marks the fourth full day of her being on Methadone, and she's really not feeling any better. How long can it take? Also, if you were put on other meds in combination with Methadone, what were they?
631581 tn?1224844661 Since it was considerably less expensive than oxycontin I agreed to try it, and as it was as effective for pain control as oxycontin was I have continued with methadone for about 5 years now, with vicodin es for breakthrough pain. I take 20mg x 3 per day Basically I have sufficient pain control to function at about an 80% normal ability. Several months ago I was diagnosed as having seriously depleted calcium.
Avatar f tn However, the pain-relieving effects are shorter than the pharmacological half-life, so that dosing for pain control usually requires multiple doses per day. Depending on its form, Methadone can also be known as Dimepheptanol. As with heroin and all other opiates, methadone tolerance and methadone dependence usually develop with repeated doses.
Avatar m tn he is currently taking 160mg of oxycodone, but is building up a tolerance that is not supportable. so he oncologist gave him a subscription for methadone to control the pain more evenly over the day along with a script for Ultram for breakthrough pain. my husband was told to take 10mg methadone 3x a day along with the 160mg of oxy for the first three days until the methadone started working and then to taper off the oxy and onto the ultram.
1774104 tn?1314215207 It was once prescribed for me when my physician began searching for a stronger opiate to control my pain. I had a reaction to the med and could not take it but thousands of ppl use it for pain management. I am aware of any opiate that you can take with Subutex. The actions of Subutex interferes with the actions of opiates. It is usually prescribed for addiction. However it is one of those drugs that are now being used for pain management by some physicians...

Avatar f tn I took it for several weeks and it was not effective for me but others have found it to be very effective. There are so great articles on the rational and benefits of utilizing Methadone for pain control. If you search the www you should be able locate them. If not send me a PM and I will try to help you. Others that are using Methadone for Pain Control may post and offer their suggestions and opinions. I do know that some have not had a good experience with the narcotic.
653169 tn?1303446369 I still don't like the methadone. I'm just really tired and feel icky and still in pain. I don't think I want to give the methadone a full 2 weeks and then stop and risk withdrawals for something that isn't helping the pain. Only the oxycodone for breakthrough is helping the pain, but I'm gonna run out too soon cuz the methadones isn't working at all. He wanted me to give it the two weeks but I just don't feel good about that.
Avatar n tn Thanks For the info, it is good to know, because the methadone has been very helpful with my pain control. I should have more insight on my problem after further tests next week.

Avatar n tn I do have chronic pain and I also have panic attacks without the Klodapin so my questions is what medicine would be safe for me to take with my Methadone that will control my panic attacks?
Avatar f tn Basically you were reducing way too quick a drop....reducing by 10mls at a time is going to feel like hell, and i'm sure it was by the sounds of it. I was on 90mls methadone 2 1/2 years ago. After a couple months I started reducing by 5mls every two weeks until I got to about 55mls. Then I dropped by 2mls every two weeks. I am finally going off methadone - cold turkey now, the day before yesterday was my last methadone dose of 2.5mls.
Avatar n tn I have been on the same dose (50mgs) of methadone for severe pain control for seven years. I was recently dx. with Central Sleep Apnea, and read that it could be caused by methadone and xxanyx . . (I take.5 mgs xanyx at night for sleep). Also, I moved to Iowa recently, and my regular MD here decided she didn't want to prescribe for pain control anymore..So I'm having a hard time finding a MD to presribe methadone..but suboxin docs are easier to find (is it the money?
Avatar m tn I am about to have surgery on my foot Tuesday and am scared nothing will work for pain as I am currently taking 60 milligrams of Methadone daily for maintenance. He was going to prescribe me Percocet but am also afraid he will not give me anything because I'm on a program. If he does, will Percocet even work? What would be a good dosage for me? Can anyone help me here? I truly appreciate your time. Thanks a bunch!
2183581 tn?1369937547 But I have been in chronic pain for the past few years. And have been struggling for the past year with no insurance. Fighting with doctors dealing with stolen meds, bad massage therapist, bad acupuncture, and trying to deal with my life. Okay another the catch up my post for my question is related to this. I finally broke down and paid cash to see a pain management doctor in desperation hoping that he could help me get off the couch.
Avatar m tn hence, the body can overdose on the medication this way. Methadone works really slow but once it begins to work, the pain relief is quite stable. I have never tried Methadone but I thought it was a good example of the dangers of not getting an updated prescription that states that your medicine can be taken more frequently or at a higher dosage. Please consult with you physician if your pain isn't adequate.
Avatar n tn Yes! I have been on methadone fo pain control. It's a common misconception that it is only for recovering heroin addicts. I also do know that it is given for long-term pain, and NOT pain that should go away after a surgical procedure. Drugs like percocet, vicoden , or oxycodone are given for post-surgical type pain. Methadone is a chronic pain medication, as well as treatment for opiate addiction.
Avatar f tn It is VERY hard for some one who has been taking large doses of pain meds for a # of years to O-D on them, Oxy Contin and Methadone are 2 of the most EVIL drugs to get off. There is a newer drug called Suboxon that is used to ween people of narcotic pain meds. It has had Great success if taken and PRESCRIBED properly. Suboxon will help control the pain as well. He either needs to stick to what his Dr. is giving him only, Or go in to a rehab & get clean.
653169 tn?1303446369 Please give me your opinionon methadone for pain control of Rheumatoid arthritis and Fibromyalgia.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you are on appropriate medications but are they at high enough doses to control your pain adequately? You may never be pain free but your pain should be more controlled. My suggestion would be that you discuss an increase or maybe a change of medications with your physician. I'm sorry that I can't think of another suggestion that would be beneficial for you but others will post and offer more input. Please let us know how you are doing.
1502361 tn?1290540230 I actually used it for Pain Control but accidentally fell in Love with it - and for someone like you to come in here like that Sends off BAD Triggers for a lot of people....
