1800740 tn?1324237171 Can you tell me what milligram dosage suboxone he will prescribe for a 30 mg per day methadone user. Suboxone is very expensive & if I need more than 8mg per day I can't afford it in addition to the cost of the dr. visits.
Avatar n tn Yes, I just switched from methadone to suboxone, You will need to lower your dosage to at least 30mg but preferably 20 mg per day. Then you'll need to be in withdrawals from methadone. I waited 5 days and my switch was easy. If you don't detox from methadone you can go into precipitated wds & you don't want that! Have the doctor prescribe clonodine (blood pressure med) to ease wd symptoms. It's a lifesaver!
Avatar f tn t remember the details of what he gave me but I remember that I received some shots and a lot of presciptions for potential side effects. The detox was fairly painless (I was taking btw 20-30 Tylenol #4's daily) and I had no need for the prescription meds he gave me for potential side effects. I do remember that I got bronchitis shortly thereafter and lost a lot of weight.
Avatar f tn Gnarly is our resident methadone expert and can give you good advice. I can tell you about Vitamins that help with detox-you say money is an issue so I would go to Walmart and get a good Multi-vitamin and a big bottle of Whey protein which you can mix with milk, water (and I add a banana for RLS) It helps your brain and body to heal faster. Have you been doing this taper with medical support?
Avatar m tn The full synthetic nature and side effects of both methadone and fentanyl make them very close tie for the worst detox ever. As I vomit and shat myself in my yard from methadone detox, I remember wishing I was a heroin or any other kind of addict. Anyway, mute point, but wanted to share. How much and how long methadone use have you got under your belt bullseye? Tell us a bit of your past and desire for the future, we will be able to help more.
Avatar m tn I already have to two meds, I was just hoping I could get an idea from some former detox folks would would be a good 1 month or 2 month detox dosage and tapering. I know it can very from patient to patient but just a little about me, Im only doing 40mg/day and have been doing so for about 6 months and just want to stop. I started to stop cold turkey.
Avatar f tn For anyone who has ever taken Methadone for chronic pain management...When you first started taking Methadone, how long did it take for it to control your pain? How many days, weeks, etc.? My best friend was started on Methadone to manage completely debilitating chronic pain that is the result of multiple, major, back-to-back abdominal surgeries. Tonight marks the fourth full day of her being on Methadone, and she's really not feeling any better. How long can it take?
Avatar n tn Hi Gayle... since you were able to taper down as slowly as you have, your withdrawals won't be as extreme as others. but yes even at 1mg a week, your body still thinks it's dependent on the drug. so you will have withdrawals. just know that you can get through this. i myself am detoxing from methadone. i've only been on it for 7 months. But for the majority of that time i was at 110mg. i didn't have the option to taper down. my husband went to jail and is coming off of 140mg.
Avatar f tn I have been on methadone for 7 years and have been tapering for over 2 1/2 years and am now down to 14mgs, I am not sick either. My plan is to drop 1mg per week until I get to 10mgs then drop 1mg every 10-14 days, as that is what the manufacturers of methadone advise to do when trying to get off. If you do drop at 10mgs I believe you will suffer a fair bit and will take a while to recover.
1695881 tn?1306506766 so...what is the best way to wing yourself off methadone after using for only 90 days? obviously cutting the dose down very slowly and takin vitamins but what else can i do????? the baby is going to be gettin morphine. i wonder if i could be hospitalied and do the same treatment?
Avatar f tn Ok I'm going to try to make this very short and to the point. Fiancé been on subs for 6 years. Now it's either get off them or loose his daughter. He is currently in a 5 day detox program which is giving him a small dose of methadone while he's there. My question is, once he comes home and no longer has the methadone to replace the subutex, are his withdrawals going to go right back to completely unbearable? Or will he be okay?
Avatar f tn Recently I learned that my finance is in 80ml of methadone. I knew from the start that he had been a heroin user in the past, however he told me he had been sober for 6 years. When I finally put all the pieces together and confronted him, he said that he was too scared to tell me but he knew that eventually I would find out and in a way he was hoping that he would get caught.
Avatar f tn Actually the best drug for opiate detox is called Suboxone. You will not feel any withdrawls when you stop taking opiates and it will allow you to detox slowly while you gain your mental & emotional capacity back. The problem is that it is still not completely FDA approved and only certain approved docs can prescribe. You will have to call many of them in your area in order to find a Doc that is not predatory in the way he/she prices his treatment.
Avatar m tn There are no free clinics and I know a little about that in fl. It always costs there except for maybe VA clinics for vets. I had the same problem once in fl. many years ago. Sometimes you have to just go with what's delt , which may mean no $ no more methadone and detox. It tough but it can be done with conviction, faith and some meds. Most addicts also freak and and get suicidal when they know they have to go through it.
Avatar m tn I agree with Motye51, why get on subs after you get out of rehab? They will detox you once your there so there is no point at getting on subs. Subs weren't created to be a long term solution anyways and a lot of people end up abusing them. In terms of your question and methadone detox...Im not sure because everybody is different. You said you've only been on methadone for 2 months so hopefully you will feel better faster than someone who has been on it for years.
Avatar f tn So a couple of weeks ago I went there and signed up and told them my story. They agreed that I was not a candidate for Methadone in the first place and that they would begin detoxing me 2 mgs per week. This past Friday the withdrawl hit me like a bus ran me over. My thought is that I didn't get a chance to stabilize at a dosage that was comfortable for a few months and then begin to taper.
Avatar f tn t prescribe them to me, instead told me I should go to detox to get off the methadone and xanax. I already went through detox earlier this year in April. I quit the methadone and xanax cold turkey, which put me in the hospital. After about the 5th day without either of the drugs, I passed out at my house. My mom called 911, and she said I was having convulsions when I passed out. I'm sure the convulsions were caused by the xanax withdrawal.
Avatar n tn I recomend that he titrates down to a lower dose, then try to break free from methadone. This is a hard drug to come off of, it takes way longer to detox off methadone versus other opiates & can be quite a challenge to recover from, but can be done, many people including myself have made it off methadone & got their lives back.
417564 tn?1287982827 ) judgement and weaning your way off the methadone. My brother was on methadone for many years, besides addictions he also had some serious mental problems. The methadone did help him and he was trying to wean himself off but was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed in 2005 .Along time ago I went out with a guy who worked for a methadone clinic for a short time. The things he told me about what goes on there would raise the hair on your neck.
Avatar f tn please can u explain to me if it is safe to take tramadol for methadone withdraws? Try7ing to detox from 20mg methadone!
797052 tn?1240511394 Today is day 2 of my cutting back on the "ROXIE"S!Doing pretty good actually,i think that i will start the methadone a little early because i need to get on with my life!I know i will do this just a lil scared on how bad the w/d"s are going to be thats why i started my weening down.No sense in putting off what i want so very much............I"m confident with all the support i have been getting from everyone hear that i wiil stay strong and beat this!!!!
Avatar f tn I am somewhat surprised that they chose methadone to detox your baby. The usual way for infants to detox is morphine because it is so short acting, allowing a relatively fast taper. Methadone is a long acting opiate with half life of anywhere of 13 to more then 40 hours (meaning that it is in the body about 5 times that long). Given that infants' metabolism is usually faster than adults', it will probably be closer to 13 to 20, but it is still very long half-life.
Avatar m tn Sorry your going through this. I have arthritis of spine and take 10 milligrams of methadone a day. I like you want a quality of life. I am 53 and I have the same attitude as you. I will say if you ever take methadone through a clinic it is different than getting it from your doctor. The clinics are giving you methadone so you won't use opiates and doctors give it to you for pain. Clinics usually start you out at 30 milligrams of methadone to start and go up from there..
Avatar f tn Usually methadone is taken once daily when its used for replacement therapy, but it makes no sense to go from a 280mg/weekly dose to 455mg/weekly dose. Alot of the times the clinics that Ive seen and heard of really dont have the persons best interest in mind. Is there another clinic he could go to? Maybe try and find a doctor/addiction specialist that is willing to help. Whatever happens there is absolutely no reason to accept there recommendations to up the dose.
Avatar n tn I posted about using methadone as short term detox a couple minutes ago, anyone with similar experiences? I would love some advice right now as it is a scary journey...
1567198 tn?1295384880 The doctor at clinic will put me on suboxone if I get to 30 mg of methadone but, I have to 100% for 3 days not take any methadone. Then I’m still on something ya know. Wondering if it’s easier to get off suboxone in the hospital/rehab. Im at my threshold now. Help! Advice! In need of hope!!!!
