As far as conversion from liquid to pills you should be able to find some sort of conversion chart on line or you could try calling a methadone clinic or Dr. and ask..even if you need to call to a different state. I have in my journal a great article about methadone/withdrawal written by a dr. who was also an addict for 18 yrs. it has alot of info and some things you can do to help ease some of the w/d.

The accepted practice of switching from methadone to any other opioid is based on individual response to dosage, not a chart. Like when I took methadone and used buprenorphine to detox, my doctor used a chart and found that 16mgs of subutex was equivalent to my 200mgs methadone habit. I took 8mgs and was fine, which according to my doctor, was not enough, but my body said it was. So, I suppose my next question is, how does 50mcgs feel?
You can google a narcotic conversion chart to see if the difference in dosage and medication is correct. You can also talk to your pharmacist about it. Methadone is very different from other narcotics. It's half life is much longer so it takes a while to get out of your system. It also stores in your muscle and bone, which also make it more difficult to come off.
I have also read that it is the difficult to convert methadone dosage to another strong opioid. It has varying absorption rates from person to person. There are no accurate charts that tell you if you take 50mg of Methadone that will equal 60 mgs of Morphine. Conversion is usually done by trial and error.

If we knew what type of drugs and how much he was taking PRIOR to the methadone we may be able to give you an educated guess.The fact is though the dosage amount of the methadone is not really the issue here.The fact that your son is still very much in active addiction and playing a deadly game with some fatal combinations is the real issue.You can't blame his behavior on the methadone,thats not what is doing this.
I've been on Methadone 30mgs for 10 years. I was also on an antidepressant, Xanax, and Buspar. I also used Neurontin for chronic pain. I got fired from my pain management Dr. Because I continued to use the Xanax, after 3 warnings. Then my medical doc dismissed me from his care, saying I was a drug seeker. That was not true. I had called and asked for Xanax with refills, and Buspar. He saw those calls on my chart and jumped to conclusion. Also told me he doesn't prescribe pain meds.
Yesterday my doc says she can no longer prescribe pain meds and is flagging my chart because I COULD be selling because my screen was clean. Well, it is clean because at that dosage the script doesn't last a month so obviously when taking a UA it will be negative. I made a formal complaint and also emailed my doc detailing what the script says. It also does not say "must last 30 days". My doc also said she has never had a problem with me and I have always been compliant!
Methadone absolutely has made me gain weight and I do days of total fasting, with no loss. I take methadone for cripling back pain. Will switching to opana allow me to lose the weight I've put on and help back pain, which the methadone was taking more and more with less relief?
I agree! My last doc had me take 1/4 of one 8mg and waited 15 minutes then checked my vitals till I wasn't in w/d. Everyones different! And if u had methadone or other pills in your system you should've waited at least 36 hrs till u dosed on suboxone! It can put u straight into withdrawl! But listen stay on a very low dose and get off of them in a couple weeks! You can get hooked to them too!
where as with methadone u can go up and up on dose..sub is not like that..it has a ceilingeffect and no more...most doctors rx this drug way over the ceiling effect....for just about anyone 8 mgs is the strength that can cover drugs..after that poeple r using pshycoligicaly. 4 mgs covers most habits....
I took 1/8 of the docs recommended initial dosage of methadone and decided it was just too intense for me. I've tried neurontin and all the other non-narcotic meds for neurogenic pain but they only make things worse. At this point the only meds that help are ativan and, if things are really bad, vicodin, which I use very infrequently because I understand it can be as addictive as methadone.
Please get informed before you use subs. I hate to hear someone take a drug and THEN ask, "What's gonna happen?" I hope you are okay. Depending do dosage, it can take 3 days without methadone to induce subs. As a methadone addict, I can't even imagine precipitated withdrawal from that med. Let us know how you are.
FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS AND ITS HARD TO JUST QUIT IN FIVE DAYS BUT IF HE CANT QUIT THEY WILL TAKE HIM OFF THE METHADONE WE TRIED TO GO BY THE CHART YESTERDAY BUT HE WAS MAD ABOUT IT ALL AND TOOK WHAT HE WAS TAKING BEFORE.SO WHAT CAN WE DO HE NEEDS HELP OR IS THERE SOMETHING HE CAN TAKE TO MAKE HIM DO BETTER WITH THIS..HE WANTS TO QUIT BECAUSE METHADONE AND XANAX DOESNT MIX REAL WELL.PLEASE IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT TO DO PLEASE LET US KNOW.THANK YOU AND HAVE A GREAT DAY!!! Im not sure how long its been since your dose of suboxone, but it always took me about 1hr before I would feel its effects. I was on methadone before going to sub, tapered down from 140mgs-30mgs, then started at 8mgs/suboxone. Im not really sure how methadone compares to morphine milligram wise, but if it doesnt help then talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose. You cant expect to feel great, but it should hold off the w/d's and cravings.
