Methadone conversion

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone conversion

methadose

Avatar m tn m really not sure of the exact conversion but I do know methadone is a good deal stronger than oxycodone. I do believe that it would be possible to take methadone with oxycodone for break-through pain if your doctor prescribes it at your next appt. One of our Community Leaders posted a medication conversion chart in her journal. It's handy for getting an idea of the equivalency of different pain meds.
Avatar m tn Hi I just happened to see your post, it hasn't been answered. I don't have a great answer but there is a conversion chart from Suboxone to Methadone, you can search it out. At the same time, from everything I have read if you were going from 30 mg of Methadone to 12mg sub it would be ok, the opposite is not true. Suboxone is much stronger than other opiates so you would want to do the conversion yourself before the doctor switches you.
Avatar f tn As far as conversion from liquid to pills you should be able to find some sort of conversion chart on line or you could try calling a methadone clinic or Dr. and ask..even if you need to call to a different state. I have in my journal a great article about methadone/withdrawal written by a dr. who was also an addict for 18 yrs. it has alot of info and some things you can do to help ease some of the w/d. Just reread your question..are you wanting to take liquid?---This is what I found online .
Avatar m tn where as with methadone u can go up and up on dose..sub is not like that..it has a ceilingeffect and no more...most doctors rx this drug way over the ceiling effect....for just about anyone 8 mgs is the strength that can cover drugs..after that poeple r using pshycoligicaly. 4 mgs covers most habits....
Avatar m tn The conversion to Methadone varies wildly given many different factors. Methadone is a very very tricky and difficult to convert. Methadone and another med that isn't used much (Levorphonal..sp?) have extremely long half lives on the order of DAYS. In other words it takes 2-3 days for the initial dose to reduce to 1/2 the amount.
Avatar m tn Good job gettin down to the 5mg. I'm to lazy and unsophisticated on the web to look up the conversion table from methadone to oxy, but I'm pretty sure you went up in dosage. That's probably why it helps with the wd's from the 5's. I don't know that there's any darn differance in what withdrawals from any opiate is compared to another, for me they are all pretty unpleasant. Hopefully others that know better will see this and post.
Avatar m tn ve seen of fentanyl detox and my own year long, slow methadone recovery, I think fentanyl and methadone are only different in dosage. The full synthetic nature and side effects of both methadone and fentanyl make them very close tie for the worst detox ever. As I vomit and shat myself in my yard from methadone detox, I remember wishing I was a heroin or any other kind of addict. Anyway, mute point, but wanted to share. How much and how long methadone use have you got under your belt bullseye?
168732 tn?1311712079 Recently become tolerant to fent and docs feel moving to methadone would be best course of treatment. Have studied some and know that conversion can be tricky and is less toxic to liver (have stage 2 cirrhosis), so hoping it will be the right decision. Will it be a rough ride, up down, during change, will methadone be as effective helping pain and what different side effects can I expect. I now have plenty nausea, fatigue and usual restlessness on all the opiates.
Avatar n tn methadone is cheap and the exalgo and suboxone are both EXPENSIVE! 16mg of exalgo daily for 30days is $600 without insurance here in nebraska! where methadone is like $15 dollars a month. I liked methadone alot for pain management very little withdrawl symptoms but I ended up with a fatal heart arrythmia because of the methadone. I would slip into PVC's premature ventricular contractions which can lead to ventricular fibbrilation which leads to death!!
Avatar f tn not exactly..oxy in theory is a bit stronger than hydro..and sub is a different type of narcotic than the other 2..but conversoin charts do compare the strength of sub to other narcotics..but it is not really the effect they r comparing//but the strength...i do believe there is a conversion chart in avisg's journal...
Avatar f tn The conversion from Heroin to Methadone depends on how many grams you've been using and if was smoked or used IV?
Avatar f tn I am in a torment myself and am on 7.5mg of methadone. Methadone is 6X a higher drug than most. Not to get alarmed about if we r doing what we r suppose to do and under a doctor's care and all. V., u r saying 4mg of meth? U mean 4 of hydro by any chance in what u have learned? U learned 4. I have learned 6.
Avatar f tn even small doses are powerful but it is misleading because there is no euphoria with methadone as for morphine your conversion seam off.....when deciding to jump ship that is why I always suggest single digits it will make the withdrawal a whole lot more doable good luck and God bless........
Avatar m tn ll look up the conversion, but every body is different and want to be safe. Seven days without methadone seems short to me. I'd rather be in the office, but options are limited in the mountains of Northern Cali. The stories I read have probably mad me paranoid.
Avatar f tn In other words, this is not the only place to get the conversion information. Now, I will not provide conversion info for methadone...ever! That opioid is completely unpredictable as it builds up in your system and even the conversions that are out there are very risky to go off of as everyone's metabolism is different and with methadone, the conversion is not straight forward at all.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the forum! I hear your frustration. I, too, am a chronic pain person. It's great that you want to get off the methadone. And you've done well so far with your taper. Your conversion of subs to methadone is pretty close to what I found. Here's the conversion chart I use that I found on MedHelp many months ago: http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/18499/Conversion-table-other-drugs-equivalent-to-sub And you are absolutely correct that 16 mg is WAY too much!!!
Avatar m tn Hi thanks for reply I no I will b swapping 1 for another but the dhc no longer work I have a cpn and worker find it really hard to talk to as all I get is pushed towards methadone and have been there and will never touch the stuff again in my life I suppose what I want to no is 1 2mg sube stronger than 8x60mg dhc I don't no the conversion I am in a dilemma as to take subs or my dhc I have thought of taking nowt but not with work and children and family it's not possible for me to go ful
Avatar m tn can anyone tell me about getting off methadone and back onto loratab for my pain help??
Avatar f tn I just found out that I'm about 9 wks pregnant. And I use heroin. I'm just gonna stop using. Does anyone know if this is safe? Can I just stop at this point? I just want to stop before I do anymore damage to my unborn child. I don't want to use methadone or subs. I know I can wean myself off. I've done that before with success. My only question is, which would be the better and safer solution at this point of my pregnancy; quitting cold turkey or weaning myself down?
Avatar m tn 5mgs) which is considered the highest methadone dose for successful conversion. In the end I only spent 2 weeks on suboxone but it was really an 8 month taper in total . All in all, I found the suboxone extremely helpful and would recommend its use, in the manner described, for anyone coming off methadone provided it is done with medical supervision.
