Avatar m tn Hi Mimi, I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties your grandchild & family are experiencing. I was on my last Methadone clinic for twenty years. I saw plenty of women raise physically healthy children. Unfortunately, the difficulties seemed to arise when there were other drugs being used during the pregnancy like alcohol, cocaine & Meth.
Avatar n tn Every state has different regulation and it may vary from hospital to hospital. It can also depend on your OB/midwife. What they do can very much depend on you yourself, if you got regular and early prenatal care, was cooperative and followed all your instructions; presented yourself as a caring and cared for mother to be, then there may not be any reason for them to test you.
Avatar f tn am 22, been on heroin for 2yrs n a bit now, been on methadone on n off for a year, never gone above 55 I am currently on 45, I am 2 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy although this is my first methadone baby so I'm really confused, in the past it only took me a week to fully get off methadone so in my case split dosing was essential. What happens if I keep to a low dose but use heroin every night when I can't sleep.
Avatar f tn As long as you are only taking the methadone and nothing else drug wise your baby will be fine. So people have said that their baby had to stay 4, 5, up to 8 months in the hospital but from the stories I have heard it is the women that also were taking other illegal drugs off the street along with the methadone and also taking z. I hope this helps you and makes you feel a little better about the situation.
Avatar n tn I am sure you want what is best for your baby and so do I. Methadone is an opiate, very long acting one and very addictive. You are still opiate dependent and if you continue to be on methadone through your pregnancy, your child will also be born opiate dependent. Your baby will be in withdrawals after birth and will have be spend time in the Neonatal ICU to go through those withdrawal.
Avatar f tn Thank you Jaharonov for your response. Althought, I feel like I'm about to have a panic attack as I knew this was not right to treat her with the methadone.  She has been on it for a total of 12 days now.  They just lowered her dosage to .2 twice a day.  Yes, a social worker was involved and tried to get me to say, at a meeting with the doctors, that I agreed with the treatment.  I did not agree and we never gave then consent to administer  the first dose to begin with.
Avatar f tn I know someone who was on methadone when pregnant, she has just had her baby, the baby is fine but after 3 days she has started getting withdrawal symptoms of screaming like a pig, being in pain and irregular heart beat. She's in special care baby unit on morphine to try and stop the pain. Poor baby!
Avatar f tn If you give birth to a baby while still on methadone, baby will go into withdrawal a few days after delivery if you do not breastfeed because of methadone level falling in his or her bloodstream. Breastfeeding while on methadone has been done, but there have been reported cases of respiratory arrests and deaths in infants while breastfeeding from mothers taking pure opiate agonist such as methadone. There are better ways of approaching your situation.
Avatar f tn if there is anyone who has been pregnant and on methadone does your baby have any medical conditions.or disabilities from it .or anything .like if u were on 50mg or less durn your pregnancy.
Avatar f tn My nephew is a methadone baby....I don't think methadone would be best choice.... I feel for u in this time.... you can do this ..,your not alone and when you go through withdrawals talk to us... scream, whatever..its not going to be easy... but I believe you want this!

Avatar f tn Has anyone been through testing baby simply because your on methadone?
Avatar n tn ve read methadone has been studied for years and has been proven to have no danger to a baby accept that your baby will likely go through withdrawl and you might even have to give it morphine when it comes home. Now suboxone on the other hand hasn't been studied like methadone but from my personal experience I know lots of women who have babies on both suboxone and methadone and those babies are all fine.
Avatar f tn This first one is the one that i do not care for and the more dangerous of the two i believe. They will give the baby methadone drops till the baby is tapered down completely but they still go thru some yuckie feeling at the end. Plus the baby will need to stay in the hospital through this also. YEP! The baby does not go home with you till they are done. Then the second choice involves you breast feeding the baby.
Avatar n tn I just found out I am about 5 weeks pregnant. I was really excited about being a new mother except for the fact that I am on methadone. I have been on it since January 2010 (11 months). During the summer, I was at 120 mg.. I ended up going into a detox to possibly get off of it and ended up going down to 24 mg. I am at 35 mg. now because I was getting withdrawal symptoms and heard the baby's detox can be worse if you withdraw during the pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Hi mommy, welcome to the forum. Congrats on your pregnancy. How long have you been taking the Methadone? Please listen to your OB. As long as they know you are on methadone, they will be prepared to take care of your baby. Don't just stop the methadone, cause you will experience withdrawals, and your baby feels what you do. Try not to worry. Make sure you ask your doctor any questions you have, and follow his direction.
217599 tn?1202850952 I would never think of administering anything to the baby! The hospital gave the baby methadone to help with her withdrawels from the adult strength opiates they had been giving her for nearly a month to sedate her. Suboxone helped me withdraw from massive amounts of ocycontin, oxycodone, and morphine with basically no wd's. I was just wondering if the dr.s could give the baby some form of suboxone to help her with the wd's from methadone.
Avatar f tn t and the baby show positive for opiates THATS when cps is called .Think about it it u are feeling the wd so is your baby. Many mothers are put on methadone when they are addicted to other drugs durning pregnancy's it considered to be one of the safer meds however that does not mean you baby wont have WDs .The hospital HAS to know so they can treat the baby.I know you are scared but you have to put the needs of your baby before your fear .
Avatar f tn You need to get on methadone or subutex, I am on subutex and have heard a lot better things than the methadone but methadone is also safe for you and baby. I just talked to someone who was on methadone their whole pregnancy and baby was born with no withdrawals. Just don't get too worried right now because it's still early but you need to get help as soon as you can for your baby. Be completely honest with your doctor and maybe start looking around now for a treatment clinic! Good luck!
Avatar n tn hi all. i have a family member, or should i say members who are taking methadone daily. one of which is 19 years old and has been on it for almost a year or more (her sister n law signed for her to get into the clinic because she was under age, isnt that illegal? her parents are alive so her sister n law shouldnt have been able to do that) anyways, she gave birth to a little girl in june.
Avatar f tn Some here have. Supposedly methadone won't hurt the baby. But I don't know if the baby will have to withdraw once born. I don't know your dose but I would say wean slowly down to say 25 is if you can so it will be as good for baby as possible. Someone on here said they used Neurontin to wean and get thru w/ds when pregnant and it was great for her and the baby too. No bad withdrawals for either. So I know it is dangerous to go cold turkey.
Avatar f tn Is it easier to detox off methadone when you haven't been taking it for more than a year???
Avatar f tn hey there, i had a friend on methadone, she had her baby, she was on it legit thru a clinic tho, thats a worry i reckon. but her baby was only in the prem ward a couple of days, and if he showed any discomfort they give them teeny tiny doses or morphine. but breastfeeding will be ok too, coz he will still get some thru that. now the youngulla is a handsome healthy boy, so please dont stress out so much. they do have ways around these things these days.
Avatar n tn I myself personally went thru alot of guilt and shame for having a baby on methadone and watching her withdrawal was very difficult so please GET YOURSELF A SUPPORT GROUP IMMEDIATELY !!
Avatar f tn Methadone will cause much worse withdrawals for you and your baby. The withdrawals will tougher with methadone even if you do a slow taper. Methadone can save some people's lives but for someone taking less than 30mgs of vicodin a day switching to methadone is absurd. Why not taper the vicodin? It can be tough tapering because it takes so much willpower. It will be just as hard tapering the methadone too.
1695881 tn?1306506766 I am no expert, in fact, so please dont take what I say to heart for I may be 100% wrong, but wouldnt the baby be born with addiction if you continue with methadone while pregnant?
