The only thing that I can imagine is that it raises your pulse rate or blood pressure, something to do with the heart. I know sometimes just from the methadone I coudl feel real jittery and my heart would seem to be beating really hard, so I could see how caffeine could make that worse. Anyways this is the first time Ive heard about caffeine and methadone interacting in any way, so I to would like to hear what the risk is.

I noticed I started having problems as soon as I started the Methadone Clinic, 3 yrs ago. I recently had an endoscopy and waiting on the biopsy results. I'm so sick of not being able to eat anything. I'm living off of oatmeal and can't over eat. But it's not over eating because I've been starving. I can only eat a small bowl of oatmeal before I take my methadone and then another small one for lunch.

I have the same thing and I was diagnosed after I was years into the pain meds. It was never determined if that was the cause because it it hereditary and my mom had it. I now take daily meds for it and they do help.

Hi,,I'm a pain patient and been on Methadone for over a year,,,I have no known heart issues that I know of,,,But my heart is acting strange beating feels off not like extra heartbeats I've had those before with no reason found why,,years ago,,but I just want to know if u did have any heart stuff while on methadone,,,and no worries if I for a moment i thought I was having a heart attract I wd call 911 immediately, just want to see how common that is,,thanks everyone..

Does the brain treat methadone the same as heroin? I am on mmt day 2 and having second thoughts.. I don't really want to become dependent on yet another drug..Ready for nightmare to be over. fentanyl for the intensity, and methadone for the chronicity; as eagle states, the withdrawal from methadone goes on for months in almost everyone. You can reduce the withdrawal by reducing the speed of the taper. In my opinion, though, your problems will only be starting once you finish the taper and withdrawal. EVERY opiate addict wants desperately to stop!

I cannot say, not having been involved in the care of your daughter when she died if it was the methadone or heart failure that caused it. Methadone can cause respiratory depression but also can prolong the qt interval which can cause sudden cardiac death. I can't tell these two apart without reviewing the medical record.

Remeber the whole anna nicloe thing. well her son died from a heart attack due to mixing anti depressents and methadone. I would think the dr. or the pharmacy would know but you never know and must check into this further. with methadone and the xanax which i have extensive history with and still do, first of all i want to congratulate you on getting down and off the done that is amazing that is by far the best treatment but at the same time the absolute worst cuz you cant CT and tapering too fast can ensure pure hell...

HI I remember your post from a wile back...if im reading it right your no longer on methadone and now your oxy is no longer working....it could be you have built up a tolerance to the oxy witch has nothing to do with the methadone....as for the benzo's they are addictive and once your on them a wile it will happen...im with sway on this one you need to see a cardiologist and get to the bottom of this...I have herd of methadone making your heart thump but only wile you are on it....

I am a 42 year old diabetic type 2, diagnosed with hypertension about a year ago, recently diagnosed with heart murmur, and also had a borderline ekg, ihave also been on perscribed methadone for arthritis for about three years, I am schedualed for a ecocardiagram next week, I am wondering if the methadone could be causing the sudden problems.

Ive been on Methadone for almost 7-8 years. I was a raging addict for far to long, to the point that blacking out happened on an every other day basis. When I feel in love I realized how much I needed to change because of all the good things I was depriving myself for. So I stopped taking a lot of medication and cut my methadone use in half. I did this around three years ago.

For about a week I felt the high of the methadone, then you adjust to it. I take 70mg once a day, and it lasts all day till my next dose. Not everyone takes it for treatment though. It's a cheap high. I wish the best of luck to you and your friend.

I have been on methadone for 5 months now and my life has taken a 180. I do not ever want to be like I was 5 months ago. I work and I am a great mother again and I am dependable and proud of myself. I dont cry everynight wishing God would just take me I am praying Thank you to God every day all day. I recomend it totaly.

He will need to increase his dose in the days following the end of the taper of m-done. I advise 2mg before sleep and 1mg in morning and again if needed during the day.

I had a similar incident- for about 3 years i was being given two B/P meds and these two meds prescribed together actually make your pressure rise, to the extent that i suffered a heart attack and tests showed the years of taking those two medicines caused a left ventrical enlargement. but what exactly does tramadol do to a person who is taking methadone? in what way is it dangerous?

This would be different from physical labor as the excersize could control your heart rate. Sometimes the stress of physical labor pushes the heart rate up fast. If you are progressively pushing yourself in a controlled manner it might help... Just my 2 cents.

Oxycontin led me to the gates of hell and Methadone rolled me on through the gates. At the time it seemed like a better alternative because of it being legal and all. I spent 2 years laying in bed, not getting "rem" sleep. I was going insane and couldn't concentrate or accomplish even the slightest tasks. It is frightening to know how may people suffer from this. I felt so alone. Finding this place has been a god send!

HI and welcome to the forum ....so you only took methadone once ?? and you feel as though it did some sort of damage to your heart or heart rate ??...this is a new one for me although methadone can make your heart beat pound but usually only wile its still in your system....mixing benzo's and any narcotic is dangerous ..

Hi, Carla. I am so sorry that you and your friend are having a stressful time right now. A couple of questions: did she take heroin before? Is that why she's on methadone? She is on a methadone program, right? I agree with everyone, she's in a dangerous situation if she's adding heroin to the mix. It's awful to say this, but she'd be safer taking one or the other, not both.

I know you are feeling like crap, but the more you sweat, and encourage your heart and lungs to work, the better you will feel. Think of the coughing, sneezing, GI flushing, sweating as your body ridding itself of poison and healing- because it is. You want to support it to do this as much as you can. Be sure to drink LOTS of water. And hey girl, I am so proud of you...You are doing this!

A little over a year ago, I was on maternity leave after having our son, and I came across his lock box cleaning the house and when I opened it, to my surprise it was methadone. I was upset about it at first, not b/c of the methadone, but b/c he lied to me about it. I confronted him about it when he got home from work and he told me that he didn't want to tell me about it for fear that I would leave him.

My husband took off running to the car and got my take home box and brought me a dose. Within 5 minutes of taking the methadone the symptoms went away. Within 10 minutes I was sitting up in the bed eating a sandwich like nothing had happened. It was the worst experience I have ever had and I wouldn't even have wished that pain on Osama Bin Laden.
