7552000 tn?1391915342 Hi Dave, the lest of your problems is your teeth. Yes, it is the Methadone and that is not all that it will decay. You have been on it a long time. Do you plan on being on it the rest of your life? If so, that is a shame. Have you gotten counseling, attended meetings?..anything to help with recovery? I would just love to hear that you want to get off of it......
Avatar m tn I just googled methadone and tooth decay and there are a lot of reports that is does cause chopper problems.

Avatar f tn Hey Deke,I have chronic pain issues in my teeth and like you, opiates dont really tweek me out when it comes to pain.Good luck trying though. If it helps, added a high dose of vitamin b-12 to your daily routine. It helps block nerve receptors, especially for the trigeminial nerve(area around your mouth and face).I started b vitamin complex as a daily routine when pain killers didnt work any more,it doesnt numb you but it builds up over time and can bring down the intensity of the pain.Good luck.
Avatar n tn I would do a calcium and magnesium supplement and maybe a multivitamin. Are you thinking about quitting the Methadone? There are a lot of folks on here who have successfully. This is a great community to get support, encouragement, and advice. Stick around and keep posting.
Avatar f tn This will help rott your teeth. Because methadone is already rotting your teeth. Methadone causes dry mouth, and when your fully saturated 24/7 you need to drink water every 20 minutes or acid builds up in your mouth no matter what. Try getting off methadone, the first year is great walkin on clouds, downhill from there...
Avatar f tn I have already caught him once mixing klonopin and his methadone. But I am still very suspicious that he has do so over the week end at his parents house. I was just wondering if you could advise me as to what signs to watch for if I don't catch him right away. Like what the normal side effects within a day or two after that I would be looking for.
Avatar n tn The only relief came from pain medication, which varied from Percocet, Oxytocin, Opana and then with the opioid epidemic, I was forced to switch to Methadone. And if being in constant pain wasn’t bad enough, it became a humiliating struggle just to get pharmacies to fill my legal prescriptions. Pulled aside and being told I wasn’t a known customer, while everyone in earshot of the conversation would begin to stare as I would be turned away empty handed, off to try another pharmacy.
1559578 tn?1295455644 I'm new to the site but find it very helpful so far. I'm on methadone maintenance for serious opiate addiction (70mg/day). I've been on methadone for over a year now and am about to begin the slow detox. I've been noticing serious tooth decay lately and was just wondering if it's the methadone??? Has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do about it? I brush my teeth twice a day, but still problems. I even had to have a tooth pulled last week it was so bad.
1091982 tn?1256942513 i had a c-spine fusion with 2 plates and lost all of my top teeth during our time together, and i did tell him i was taking the medications, but i broke our contract by doing that. i have been off of all illegal, non prescribed drugs and alcohol- i attend meetings regularly and i thought it was all good. obviously it was not all good, and a couple of times i scared myself with my usage. i am now detoxing from the fentanyl and it is scary. i do have 5/500 hydro's but not many.
541465 tn?1219427886 There is a difference between methadone and methanphetamines. Methanphetamines are street drug and rots your teeth, methadone is not the same, and does not rot your teeth. I have been using methadone for 3 years and have gained 40 pounds. I asked to try something else, and the doctor gave me MS Contin, which is a long lasting sythetic morphine for pain. since i went off Methadone, I have lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks without changing a thing. Yes, I believe it does cause weight gain.
Avatar f tn They kept increasing my dose until at my highest I was taking 600mgs of methadone daily and was a walking zombie and suffering some sever side effects. It was hell trying to decrease from that high of a dose down to 30mgs to make the switch to suboxone. High doses of methadone long term have really screwed some people up. Also as a new methadone patient be sure to pay special attention to your oral hygiene.
374225 tn?1269899262 Rex--watch your food intake, take good good care of your teeth (listen to your granny here!). The dry methadone mouth you have in the morning is causing daily damage to your gums and teeth. If you live close to the $$ line, you can't afford expensive dental care either so do preventive things. So these are my suggestions--cal/mag (it's cheap) and brush/floss several times a day.
Avatar m tn I would be careful with it too because dry mouth is what causes tooth decay and is why people sometimes say it rots your teeth. It really isnt the methadone that is rotting your teeth its the dry mouth. Ur saliva is your teeths natural defense and without that its unprotected. They make a mouth wash called biotene that is pretty good the prob is it only works for a little bit and u gotta swish again. And its very expensive. But I have never heard of any weird tastes thats def not normal.
631581 tn?1224844661 In the past 3 years I have spent thousands on my teeth and am now going to Costa Rica where I can afford to have implant teeth - I have lost 3 teeth this year! I can very clearly remember the life I led prior to methadone or oxycontin-I couldn't sleep, couldn't walk or climb stairs, couldn't sit in a chair or car for more than 20 minutes and I really couldn't work at all. My ability to function with pain was terrible-I spent time in a wheelchair or on good days, a walker.
1559578 tn?1295455644 I have been on 70 mg of Methadone daily for a and a half now. I currently had to have a tooth pulled and 3 other fillings done. (I will still have 5 minor cavities filled in two weeks. My teeth have never been perfect but this seem excessive. I've heard that methadone may be responsible for my tooth decay??? Is this true??? And if so, why???
Avatar f tn Hi there I'm new to this but I've got the answer to what ya asked because I'm going through the exact same stuff. I decreased my Fentanyl patch from 100mcg to 50 the to 25mcg. After 3 years I decided I'm done and never put on another patch it's been 24 day's now. I also got off of methadone and MS contin in the last year all with the tapering approach.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone , I asked this question one time before and got very little response so I am trying again. I have lost a LOT of hair and I have been told because it's from the methadone I have been taking, then I found out that opiates in themselves can make you lose your hair. I was wondering how many of you have had your hair thinning or lost hair during the time you are/were taking opiates.
Avatar m tn ive been taking methadone and valium and efforexor everyday and ahve beeem experensing bad memeroy loss also been smoking weeed
Avatar f tn Hey All, I am on 85mg methadone a day for oxy addiction and I have constant tooth pain. My teeth are pretty rotten from years of neglect. I am seeing a dentist now but repairs will take awhile. I need to know what will work for pain for me. I have a very high tolerance for opiates. I have had a drug called "toradol" but made me very sick. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Im currently on 60mg of Methadone a day and have been for almost a year and now unfortunately now i have severe tooth aches bc my wisdom teeth r trying to come in and i have to have them removed bc there is an infection anyways i was prescribed loratab 10 for the pain until im able to have the surgery next week and i was wondering how safe it is to take the two together?
1264367 tn?1408104163 I have gastroparesis, and GERD, and am on methadone maintenance. I noticed I started having problems as soon as I started the Methadone Clinic, 3 yrs ago. I recently had an endoscopy and waiting on the biopsy results. I'm so sick of not being able to eat anything. I'm living off of oatmeal and can't over eat. But it's not over eating because I've been starving. I can only eat a small bowl of oatmeal before I take my methadone and then another small one for lunch.
Avatar m tn As far as I am aware there are no contraindications for methadone and adderal...... but the jittery and non-focused part may well be getting used to the amphetamine dose...could take a couple days to become acclimated......And then again you are basically taking a downer (methadone) with speed (adderal) - - so there could be adjustments to doses made...... I would suggest that you post this question on the Addiction Expert Forum and get an MD's opinion........
1402969 tn?1324690560 I was on methadone for nearly 12 years(amongst other narcotics) and i can honestly say i never had any abnormal teeth problems. Methamphetamines however are notorious for damaging teeth. It is called meth mouth and i believe it is caused by both the constant grinding of the teeth as well as the chemical component of the drug itself. I know when some addicts are in bowels of active addiction, personal hygiene can take a back seat.
Avatar f tn ive had multiple friends get arrested- put in jail while on 100+ mg of methadone. And from what I hear its the longest/roughest withdrawal you can go through. if your on it... id recommend going straight down to 5mg then jump. Suboxone has a special place in my heart where my hatred lies. If I could go back before I decided suboxone would be a good idea, I would kick myself and my doctor in the teeth. Im currently 2 weeks without suboxone after 3 years of it.
480448 tn?1426948538 I have been taking opiates for several years. In the last couple I have had 2 extractions and 3 teeth that just broke and fell out. I don't have dental ins. and I am so scared that I'm going to need full dentures. that I can't afford.
