Common Questions and Answers about Methadone and neuropathic pain

methadose

Avatar m tn Pregabalin, is a medication used to treat epilepsy, neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and generalized anxiety disorders. It is better known as Lyrica. Many physicians order opiates and Lyrica together. Methadone is a different animal. I'm not confident in saying you can safely take the two together. Your best source would be a Pharmacist. They are the true experts in medications, the side effects, interactions and so forth. They are free and you don't always have to give your name.
Avatar f tn NOW THAT HE IS TAKING NEURONTIN AND ZANAFLEX HE HAS LESS PAIN, BUT NEITHER DRUG SEEMS TO HELP WITH NEUROPATHIC PAIN. MONTEL WILLIAMS TALKS ALOT ABOUT HIS PAIN WITH MS IN HIS BOOKS. HE IS ON LIQUID CANNABIS WHICH HE SAYS HELPS HIM. OF COURSE IT IS ILLEGAL IN MOST STATES. I THINK THERE IS A DRUG CALLED LHC WHICH IS SIMILAR TO THE INGREDIENT IN MARIJUIANA AND IS LEGAL TO PRESCRIBE, BUT I DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT. I AM VERY SORRY TO HEAR YOU ARE NOT DOING WELL.
Avatar f tn 30 mg of methadone is not a large dose for treating neuropathic pain. Since you say the pain has slowly increased, I do not doubt that you are feeling undermedicated and I'm glad to hear that you are getting a dose adjustment. However, perhaps the increased pain is caused by a change in your underlying condition? I hope that your doctor has reevaluated your fracture.
Avatar f tn for 1 i never heard them starting someone right out on methadone for pain..like molly stated there are many other drugs for pain..and i never heard of a methadone clinic giving someone methadone thats not having problems with other meds?? i am sorry but things just dont add up??
1310035 tn?1305621642 Sorry if there was some sort of misunderstanding, not sure how that happened?? but i never said or implied anything about pain management (clinics/centres/doctors or what ever) only prescribing narcotics. The only thing I actually said was "So my advice is to try and stay away from the pain meds that are easily addictive and talk to your dr about neuropathic pain drugs instead.
Avatar n tn I recently started taking methadone for my RLS. My RLS was extremely severe - to the point where I was only able to sleep a couple hours a night, unable to sleep in a bed (I've had to sleep on the floor for about the last 5 years), I would punch my legs to make them go numb, spend most of the night walking around my living room, and spent much of my time in a lot of pain. Methadone has been extremely helpful so far. I am sleeping at night and my legs rarely bother me.
Avatar f tn Management of this disorder focuses on restoring joint movement and reducing shoulder pain. Usually, it begins with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and the application of heat, followed by gentle stretching exercises. These stretching exercises, which may be performed in the home with the help of a physical massage or occupational therapist, are the treatment of choice.

1264367 tn?1408104163 I have gastroparesis, and GERD, and am on methadone maintenance. I noticed I started having problems as soon as I started the Methadone Clinic, 3 yrs ago. I recently had an endoscopy and waiting on the biopsy results. I'm so sick of not being able to eat anything. I'm living off of oatmeal and can't over eat. But it's not over eating because I've been starving. I can only eat a small bowl of oatmeal before I take my methadone and then another small one for lunch.
Avatar f tn It was once heavily marketed to pain cliinics for treatment of neuropathic pain, and is still used for that purpose. But it was also marketed (illegally, according to the FDA) as a mood stabilizer, even though there are no good studies showing it is effective treatment for bipolar disorder. The company that makes the drug was hit with t large fine about ten years ago for taking docs to the Caribbean and giving them lectures and marketing pitches... the NY Times had some big article on it .
147426 tn?1317265632 We were lucky enough to have a pain managment doc land on our forum last week. He has agreed to feed us some info on data, written for the person with no medical knowledge. He emails me the info and I will place it on the forum. I am so jazzed! PAIN - The Musical There are fundamentally two types of pain in world: "normal pain" and "neuropathic pain". Normal pain happens when someone kicks me in the shins.
Avatar m tn Hi, and welcome to the forum. Neuropathic pain is difficult to treat and we were lucky enough to have a pain management doctor wrtie up to Health Pages on the subject. Please click on the two links below. the first one is explaining what neuropathic pain is and the second is describing how to treat it and explaining why you want (actually NEED) to go slow. No one WANTS to go slow, of course. http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple%20Sclerosis/Pain---A-Primer/show/371?
Avatar n tn MS and EM can both have thermal (temperature) and mechanical (touch) alloydinia (pain from things that normally aren't painful). Years of using 3600mg. of gabapentin (aka Neurontin) and being unable to use other anticonvulsants I tried due to serious side-effects, pushed me towards a pain management doctor and opiods, even though they were only mildly helpful to neuropathic pain.
5160872 tn?1385248794 I have back and neck pain. My MS Specialist sent me to a pain clinic. It is the best thing that ever happened.
Avatar n tn Hello, I was looking for some treatment options for General Neuropathic Pain as the only diagnosis my dr can provide me after negative EMGs both upper and lower extremeties and complete work up including MRIs, bone scans, x-rays, and blood tests. My pain is debilitating sciatica like in both legs and ulnar nerve pain in both arms from shoulder down to the pinky fingers which feels like tightness in so many muscle groups. Pain for 2 years without answer or any treatment to help.

Next I experienced parenthesis across my mid back at about th mid-thoracic level.
Avatar m tn He learned that the MSIR, given for the cancer treatment pain, was able to manage the neuropathic pain. There has been no etiology determined for the neuropathy. Avatar m tn It could be neuropathic, though an unlikely possibility. Neuropathic pain can be managed with medications or nerve destruction. 3. Likely possibilities include referred pain from other regions, infections, inflammations, chronic irritation etc. It would be best to get this evaluated by a urologist or an internist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn She also uses antihistamines to help the itching, but they only offer some relief and always make her fall asleep. Her doctor also prescribed her muscle relaxers and pain killers, but they don't seem to do the trick. We are encouraging her to get an MRI to see what could be wrong, but it's hard for her to sit with her head in one position for a long time (it causes her too much pain), and she's not sure she'll be able to get through it.
