Methadone and liver enzymes

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone and liver enzymes

methadose

Avatar f tn My brother also is on methadone, it is very safe and causes no harm to the liver, he can be on this drug his entire life without to much concern, the only reason they would not give your brother treatment is if he is drinking alcohol or taking other recreational drugs, but not because he is on methadone, is he on a treatment program? you should do a search on methadone and learn about it.
1031144 tn?1292695256 It can mean something is going on with liver. Elevated liver enzymes can be a result of a number of things including alcohol use, some drugs including over the counter meds, viral hepatitis, etc. If you’re methadone is from previous IV drug use, and you shared needles, it’d be a very good idea to be tested for Hepatitis B and C… I believe a majority of those that shared works are infected.
Avatar m tn As I understand Methadone is broken down by an enzyme which is greatly retarded by Clairithromycin, this ay cause an overdose to occur in the user. I have been taking Methadone for 5 years now (was at 180mg/day now at 10mg/day) can I safely take the Clairithromycin? Avatar n tn its just the liver enzymes and high white blood cell count. I never really beleived in God but now I have been talking to God every day, because I don't want to die. When I was high I didn't care but now I really do. Thanks for the reply and god bless. lilyput: I try to get out as much as possible but I have a tough time getting around, if I make a wrong move my heart starts flip flopping, along with numbness in my head.
Avatar n tn I've been on Lortab 10/500 1 q4-6h 60mg/3g a day for a little over a year... I was on regular vicodin before 40mg/4g day. I was admitted to the hospital because of very high liver enzymes cause by the vicodin and abdominal pain thats when the doctor decided to prescribe lortab 10. my liver enzymes are better but still abnomally high and sometimes the medicine doesn't work; before I was on dilaudid 4mg 1-2 q4-6h but my doctor doesn't prescribe that.
Avatar f tn But it must be emphasized that higher-than-normal levels of these liver enzymes should not be automatically equated with liver disease. They may mean liver problems or they may not. The interpretation of elevated AST and ALT levels depends upon the whole clinical picture and so it is best done by doctors experienced in evaluating liver disease. The precise levels of these enzymes do not correlate well with the extent of liver damage or the prognosis (outlook).
Avatar m tn Since I had elevated liver enzymes, my doctor stop giving me PTU and I had a total thyroidectomy.Liver enzymes went to normal immediately after stopping PTU. I am OK now All the best to you.
Avatar f tn Hey Vince, I thought I wrote you back but.... anyway as for the pain meds, I have alot of pain with this hep thing to and the Docs had me on, amytriptaline at night, 4mg hydromorphone for breakthru pain as needed ,percodan 4 times a day plus 175mg of Lyrica. Before I started they dropped the lyrica, perks and amytriptaline, because they suggest that these are not good for the liver. They gave me MSContin three times a day plus the hydro for breakthru.
Avatar n tn I went for my regular physical with my regular doctor and my liver enzymes were up; ast 60 alt 40 alkaline phosphate 128, these wer high last year as well. My doctor says my liver enzymes were always kind of high, even before being diagnosed with sarcoid. Now my doc wants me on synthroid for this and my triglycerides went up to 240? Is the sarcoid still in my body, perhaps in my liver, causing the high enzymes, low thyroid, etc... Thank you.
1445110 tn?1388209711 I had some minor surgery about 3 weeeks ago and tool Lortab with acetominophen for pain - that can raise liver enzymes. But now I am referred to a gastroenterologist...and I will go because...I might as well see what he has to share about autoimmuine diseases....because I have hashis.
Avatar n tn The liver enzymes fluctuate. There is no diet plus herbal remedies that can prevent the liver enzymes from going up if you have HEP C. It's just not possible. So it may be unrelated to the exercise.
Avatar n tn Many hepatitis C patients are on methadone. Methadone is known to be liver-friendly and will not harm the liver.
Avatar n tn Elevated Liver Enzymes can be the result of damaging liver disease, acute or prolonged use of medications or alcohol, or harmful exposure to a wide variety of environmental toxins (many of which you are probably exposed to every day). Livergenex is your safe, natural choice for lowering elevated liver enzymes and putting you on the path to a healthier more energetic life. Elevated liver enzymes indicate inflammation or damage to cells in your liver.
Avatar f tn So, my doctor just got the results of my blood tests, and apparently I have underactive thyroid, and three times the normal liver enzymes. I couldn't ask him a lot of questions and it will take a few days before I can go and see him, but I have a lot of questions that just won't stop bugging me. For instance, one of the symptoms that bothers me the most is that I keep having hot flashes a lot. But shouldn't it be the opposite with hypothyroidism?
Avatar n tn Hi there. I think its great that you are on an addiction recovery forum looking for answers concerning your son and his unfortunate addiction. However i have to say first that there is absolutely no connection between a responsibly dosed (even an irresponsibly dosed) methadone patient and compromised liver function. I dont know why your son has told you this since it simply isn't true.
Avatar f tn Hi again, i just wanted to let you know that before I joined this Forum I had left a message on the FDA's question line. They had not gotten back to me so I thought I'd never hear back. Today, however, I did hear back from them. I asked them about whether the meds. and supplements that I've been taking, and especially Verapamil, Zantac and Prilosec OTC could possibly cause an elevation in liver enzymes.
1213752 tn?1266507249 Since then I have had several blood tests, Ultra sound, liver biopsy...and no answers. My ultra sound was negative. I have inflammation and cirrhosis of the liver, but nothing predominant...The GI doc said that the toxin levels in my liver were very high and he thinks that is why I am having trouble with my liver. Today they have gone down to ALT- 626 and AST-415. I have been experiencing new symptoms since the levels have dropped. I am now getting pain in my liver, where I was not before.
586653 tn?1282046650 my 10 month old had a blood test coz she was anemic, thats when they told me about her liver enzymes. i didnt know what that was but i knew it wasnt good. they did blood test on her twice and its still the same. shes got another appointment which is for nxt month. shes been poorly in the past but otherwise eats fine and is a happy child.im so scared as iv done internet search and have not found anything good.
Avatar n tn I know this because my sister to is over weight and suffers from elevated liver enzymes. She went on a strict diet and it helped her condition and to loose weight. Her liver enzymes at times were very high (over 300). She was later diagnosed with insulin resistance.
184420 tn?1326739808 what exactly do the liver enzymes have to do with the virus and what is going on with the disease (progression).. i know the only way to find out if i have progressed further is another biopsy but is monitoring the enzyme levels a waste of time then or what?
Avatar f tn Is this a pattern in your serum data as well, with fluctuations between normal and elevated. What was the original reason for the ERCP and MRI if the enzymes were ok, pain/jaundice? I assume when you say they are doing another MRI that they will also be doing a MRCP along with it? Sometimes seeing the bile duct system in it's undisturbed (not artificially extended/inflated) state is the key in determining what's wrong.
1098161 tn?1257447833 No, those are antihistamines and won't damage the liver. There are a couple of websites that show drug label info, like rxlist.com and drugs.com. I comb through those if I am considering using something new, looking for any liver side effects of drugs. There are 2 liver enzymes, AST and ALT. ALT is made in the liver and it's leakage into the bloodstream indicates cell damage to the liver. AST, however, can also come from damaged muscle and heart.
Avatar m tn Look for a cause for them being high. One of the 2 enzymes is also made (and released from) muscle, so may not mean liver problem but if both are elevated, there's probably something going on. Fatty liver is a liver disease all on its own and may be the reason for the elevated enzymes. Also google all of the medications and over the counter drugs that you take. You will be surprised at how the most common things can cause liver damage.
Avatar f tn which is tough on the liver...my enzymes were ok and i am very glad.there r other factors that come into play such as genetics, age, alcohol consumption etc....as a rule they do not rise just because u used recently..but it is possible...i would wait a few weeks and have them checked again..just to be on he safe side..
Avatar m tn the blood test showed that levels of calcium, magnisium, sodium, and putasium are normal but liver enzymes are elevated - VERY HIGH - i have done ultrasound check and it showed that i have a fatty liver. The doctor's diagnosis was that i have shortage in Vitamin D caused by high liver enzymes which leads to these involuntary movements in my muscles. The question is .. do high liver enzymes affect muscles? and does it really affect levels of vitamin D ?
