Avatar n tn I am taking Metformin for PCOS, and I am not trying to get pregnat, will this drug be effective to treat my PCOS. Also how does it help with weight loss.
Avatar f tn Other newer insulin-sensitising medicines include pioglitazone. This is not currently recommended for PCOS. For certain people with PCOS, a specialist may advise that metformin be taken. However, further research is needed to confirm the role of these medicines in the treatment of PCOS.
Avatar f tn I've never used metformin, so I'm not really sure, but I think it helps with PCOS no matter what your weight. Anyone else?
Avatar n tn Hi there. I am about to start metformin for my PCOS next week at the start of my new cycle. Will this help me to ovulate and help improve my chances of conceiving? We are trying for baby number two, this will be our ninth month. I was put on clomid 50mg to help us conceive our first baby two years ago. My transvaginal sonogram showed i have PCOS on my left ovary, but my right ovary was clear. I also have a tilted uterus. Would this hinder our chances of conceiving?
Avatar f tn It helps regulate menstrual cycles, start ovulation, and lower the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS. Metformin can also help in regularizing menstrual cycles and starting ovulation in about 40-45% of women with PCOS.It may be more effective when taken with Clomiphene .Do consult your gynecologist for more queries. Please keep me posted. Best regards!
Avatar f tn I know it must be really tough for you but at least they haven't ruled ichildren out...Victoria Beckham used metformin for her PCOS and she now has 3 beautiful children and she is very slim(too slim!
Avatar f tn HELLO, I HAVE BEEN TAKING METFORMIN FOR YEARS NOW, BUT FOR DIABETES NOT WEIGHT LOSS. I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS ALSO USED FOR WEIGHT CONTROL.FOR ME IT IS TO HELP MY BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS. IT HAS HAD NO EFFECT AT ALL ON MY PERIOD.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with PCOS 3months ago and was put on metformin. The begining of the first month I had my period for 3 days and it stopped. Then toward the end of the month I had another one but heavy. The second period contiuned into the the second month since it was at the end of the first month. After two weeks of heavy bleed, my ob/gyn give me provera and it stopped my period. I am still on the 1000mg per day metformin and no period. I am ttc and I took a pegroo test with a BFN.

1657208 tn?1404168728 I was wondering if there is a chance I could get pregnant on it.. I have been trying to conceive for 2 years now. I had stopped taking metformin for awhile because of my stomach hurting when I took it and now I am on 1000mg a day. Any advice is much appreciated. Do you think it will work or what should my next step be?
Avatar n tn So I was put on 1500 mg of metformin 3-4 months ago I tried it for 4 days I was so sick I went off. Ever sense I have been feeling guilty. I am working on loosing weight and some exercise....I think I am going to try the metformin again. Maybe start out at 500mg...and work my way up. Has anyone else done this....when do you take your metformin. Can I take it at night and if I do takr it at night do I have to take anything with it. I dont want to eat before bed.
Avatar f tn ok i am on metformin and the reason why u guys get that way is because its a pill for diabeties, (also used for PCOS) and your sugar levels go down with it so you have to eat with it. You take the pill in the morning with breakfast and evening with supper, and those who tak 3 pills should eat lunch with it!!
Avatar f tn DO I NEED TO HAVE MY PERIOD TO START METFORMIN OR CAN I JUST START THE MEDICATION WHENEVER??? I'VE BEEN TTC FOR 3 YEARS WITH NO LUCK . I HOPE THIS MEDICATION ALONG WITH CLOMID WITH WORK THIS TIME AROUND. HOPING FOR SOMEONE OUT THERE TO HELP!
1434731 tn?1382725984 Ya the metformin can be alittle hard for some to get used to at first. But once your body adjusts to it everything will be fine again. I learned not to let myself get to hungry while getting used to it to help with the nuasea feelings. And when I first started I had to keep myself busy or else I would feel sick. But its only like that for no more than two weeks and its all worth it.
Avatar f tn It helps control some of the hormones that are out of wak. It may take awhile to work for some. But metformin is not used to get pregnant. it just helps with the symptoms of PCOS. So that your body can get pregnant. I have been taking it for a year now. and it can be hard to get used to so hang in there and dont give up on it. Its better to have it than to not have it while ttc. Your dr may also keep you on it for a couple weeks after you get pregnant to help hold the pregnancy.
Avatar f tn i was diagnosed with pcos a year ago, when i went to see if i was pregnant becos my period had not occured for 2 months.from then on i am on metformin 1000g.now the problem is before taking metformin tablets i used to get my periods every 45-49 days naturally.but after taking this tablets not even once i have got my periods naturally.evertime i check for pregnancy and have to take duphaston to induce periods.we are ttc for year nw,without any sucess.has any have faced with this problem?
Avatar f tn He said start with 500mg/day for a week, work up to 1000mg/day for another week, then 1500mg/day but my question is, what time of day do any of you taking the same dosage take it? Im not sure if I am supposed to take 500mg morning, noon and evening or 500mg in the morning then 1000mg at night..ect.
Avatar f tn Hi! Your pituitary microadenoma is definitely throwing your cycles off--that is why they are so long (lots of people don't have any!) without meds. I also thought that metformin helpeed ovulation by improving insulin sensitivity. In order to check if you are insulin resistant, you need to have insulin levels done. You don't necessarily have to have abnormal blood sugars. The fact that the metformin makes your cycles regular suggests to me that you ARE insulin resistant.
Avatar n tn I also have PCOS and was prescribed metformin. I have only been on it for two weeks so I can't give you any insight into how effective it is, but my doctor did say it could take anywhere from 1 month- 6 months but that was with the other meds he prescribed for me. Is metformin the only thing your doctor put you on? My doctor put me on metformin, provera, clomid and ovidrel for this cycle.
Avatar f tn I have PCOS. I have read that almost all the ladies on this website who have PCOS, were all put on Metformin. How come my doctor won't put me on this?? He tell me he would rather wait it out a bit. But are the bad side affects to this drug?? Any insight would help.
1660049 tn?1326092618 Are you monitoring your blood sugar levels? Metformin is a diabetes drug that lowers blood sugar. It can be used to treat PCOS but it will still affect your blood sugar and hypoglycemia can be dangerous. That said :) has your doctor checked your FSH and LH levels? Hubby's sperm count? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001408/ Link above to good article on PCOS. I have friends who swear that red raspberry leaves (usually as a tea) are the best thing to help conception....
706214 tn?1244526649 Most docs prescribe metformin bc ppl with PCOS are said to be insulin restistant. Metformin is a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes. Most chances if you have PCOS you are not ovulating, your producing eggs but they are not being ovulated so they form a string around your ovaries that look like cycts. You can look up metformin and infertility to find out more.
Avatar f tn I'm also 32 and have PCOS. I took metformin for awhile, but it didn't help at all. So don't be worried that you can't take it. We were finally able to get pregnant after doing fertility treatments, so it IS possible! For sure! I'm currently 21 weeks along. It took us seven years to conceive, but we finally did and it's now all SO worth it! GOOD LUCK!
Avatar f tn HI, Women with PCOS can have problems with ovulation and conception. Weight loss if overweight and insulin sensitizing agents like metformin will help with the PCOS. For induction of ovulation, drugs like clomiphene and femara can be used. If these do not help then gonadotropins can be used. Consult an infertility expert for an opinion. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations.
7267830 tn?1391998330 If you are a bit over weight try losing a few pounds. I used to work with PCOS patients all the time for the past 7 years and one of the things that would always help them conceive was a proper diet, prescribed medication (in most cases you might get prescribed a medication called Metformin) if Metformin, diet and exercise doesn't seem to help you might get prescribed Clomid for inducing ovulation.
Avatar n tn How long have you been Metformin? Having PCOS and taking meds to counter act it can make you unbalance for a little while. I have PCOS as well I used to get sick in the morning and light headed during the day. I am on clomid now. Unfortunately it will all take time to get balance again.
Avatar f tn What are the odds of getting pregnant when one suffers from pcos??? and how will you know when is the right time to have sex, since i dont have regular periods??? plz plz help somebody?????
422891 tn?1315183520 Geritol is an over the counter vitamin they say helps you get pregnant And metformin is what my doctor gave me for the pcos to help regulate cycles but i already have normal cycles! It's a diabetic drug also used for pcos.
