Avatar m tn As your mother was diagnosed at one year of age with type 2 diabetes? Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes), which is an autoimmune disease, sounds more likely. Are you sure the diagnosis is correct? Most children who have type 2 diabetes have a family history of diabetes, are overweight, not very physically active and it usually develops around puberty. Tablets are not suitable for type 1 diabetics. Insulin injections are given daily or several times a day depending on the type of insulin used.
Avatar f tn thankyou....yes ive been using metformin before pregnancy cause im a type two diabetic.....
Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes and I had it even before pregnancy.Till my 3rd trimester I was on medicine-metformin and diet. From third trimester it is just going up.So along with metformin I am on two types of insulin every day.But as of now my baby is doing fine.I am 34 W 6 days.
1303999 tn?1279581926 I am a Type II Diabetic. I currently take 1000mg twice daily of Metformin. Worked pretty well for me. Last week started on levothyroxine and now my blood sugar is through the roof. Anyone else have the same problems? It says I might have to alter my diabetes meds. If anyone is out there with the same thing can you recommend a medication that worked for you?
Avatar f tn I wonder how many people there are who have HCV and were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as adults... I was diagnosed with type 1 in my early 20s. If I was infected with HCV when I think I was (tattoo in the early 80s), then my diagnosis of type 1 diabetes came a couple of years later. The liver stores sugar. In a person without T1 diabetes, the pancreas continually shoots out insulin through the day and the liver shoots out sugar stores.
1411765 tn?1281652371 There is a substantial number of adults who are misdiagnosed Type 2 who are in fact Type 1 or LADA which is a slow onset type 1. Some of the indications that this might be the case would be a person who was put on oral meds and they did nothing or they worked for awhile (months to a couple years) then stopped working, necessitating insulin use.
Avatar n tn Also, if you are really type 1, you posted in the type 1 forum, then you need to be taking insulin to stay healthy. If you are type 2, you may be able to manage by following a low carb diet, exercising, building muscle mass, Glucophage/ metformin, and maintaining normal weight. However, bottom line is that you need to normalize blood sugars to prevent complications.
Avatar n tn I am a 49 year old woman. I was diagnosed w type 2 diabetes two years ago. Since that time I have been taking metformin 500x3per day w 'permission' to take a 4th if a social situation should require further food intake. I am VERY careful what I eat, and I exercise and get enough sleep and try to take good care of myself. I have a new doctor who ran all his own tests. I also have Hashis hypothyroid. My thyroid #s came back high so I have to lower them asap.
Avatar n tn org to find it) has had similar problems. This forum really specializes in type 1 diabetes rather than type 2, so our experience is pretty much nil with type 2 medications.
Avatar n tn I'm 24 with type two diabetes. I am obese. I take metformin. I've been waking up before my alarm everyday with a really weird, almost hungover, dizzy feeling and I don't want to open my eyes. I get restless and have to go to the bathroom. It's always diarrhea. I then start to get sweaty, nauseous, shaky... The top of my stomach starts feeling really weird. Ill usually start getting really emotional and upset about the way I'm feeling.
1574695 tn?1322590597 I am 5 w & 4 days pg, and my dr said to come off my metformin until I see a diabetes/pregnancy dr, but last year I was pregnant and sadly we lost the baby, that dr said to keep taking my metformin, anyone else getting conflicting info?
1461465 tn?1285865061 Another bit of left field input. It is interesting to me that your husband is doing well on only Lantus and Metformin which is a type 2 oral med. Most type 1's need a bolus (fast-acting) insulin before meals as well or they are high two hours after eating (over 140). You don't say how long your husband has been diagnosed, he could still be in his honeymoon period. But if he is overweight you might want to clarify that he is not, in fact type 2. (antibody tests would confirm).
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Metformin for type 2 diabetes and have gone from 500 mg to 1,500 mg per day. A1C and glucose is worsening despite higher dose and strict diet, exercise. Does my body have an issue with the drug? I was considering Berberine as a natural supplement instead of Metformin, thoughts?
996946 tn?1503249112 Can Diabetes 2 actually turn into Diabetes 1 if you have it long enough and your pancreas stops working...or is there no connection between Diabetes I & 2?
Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes and I take 2000mg of metformin...but it hurts my stomach something terrible...i stay in the bathroom I stopped taking it but I know I have to start back because I don't want to have to take insulin because it is/was helping me..what can I do for the stomach pain and toilet runs.
158939 tn?1274915197 Hi Utahmomma, I'm a momma, too, not a doc, so let the docs call it-- you definitely need to see a good endocrinologist. That said, I have a type-1 daughter and a type-2 husband, and type-2 is rampant in his family, so I'm pretty familiar with both. You're right that it makes no sense for him to have Type 2. I have heard of a couple of non-overweight people getting type 2 when there's a strong genetic history, but they don't usually get it until well into middle age.
Avatar n tn Here is the cold fact, to me, there is NO best meds to treat or cure diabetes type 1 or 2. Overtime, even the cutting edge meds nor insulin shots can't even stop the progression of this horrible malady .
Avatar f tn You may also have LADA type diabetes, which is adult slow onset type 1 diabetes (in this case, treatment should always be insuin).
1580703 tn?1651904887 my wife is in and out of the hospital. they thought she was a type 2. she is 36 years old. we came to find out she is a type 1. glucose between low 30's and high 600's. how we found out was her Diabetic doctor took her off all her meds and the next day I had to call 911. " great Doc huh". when she was in the ER her blood was 689.
Avatar f tn In such case you should be assessed (antibody tests) to see what type of diabetes you have. Type 2, or adult onselt type 1 (sometimes referred to as LADA). If you have type 2, medications may be appropriate, but if you have adult onset type 1, typically the most appropriate medication can be a very low dose of insulin, which by normalizing blood sugars and thus delay progression of diabetes. I can recommend the book "diabetes Solutions", but Dr. Richard Berstein.

Avatar n tn For my case, i need to take my drug to prevent blindness, something that I dont want to experience just because I dont want to takedrugs. At best, you only need 1 drug for your diabetes which is metformin, very cheap. Low testoterone should be the least concern. Vitamin D deficiency can be treated with sunlight exposure. Simply going outdoor for half an hour a day is free of cost. However, vitamin D supplement is an alternative.
