Metformin time release

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin time release

glucophage

Avatar n tn This is a good discussion to have with your doctor. Metformin, the immediate release version and Metformin, the extended release version are the exact same medication. The extended release version just doesn't have to be taken as often as it is released over time. The bid or twice a day schedule with the Metformin you currently take will work as well as the once a day extended release version. That's really the main difference.
Avatar f tn According to my RE metformin (regular) should be taken around the same time everyday. If you are on Metformin XR (extended release) if really doesn't have a "time" frame. Since I don't really know your medical history, I would recomend you to speak to your doctor so that Metformin can give you the best results, and the results that you are working for.
Avatar f tn Are your metformin pills slow release? If they are, still seeing the pills present can be normal. However, if you are having severe diarrhea, it could be that your gut is having difficulty absorbing your medication and there is very short transit time, and it is coming out. Once your diarrhea resolves, the problem with malabsorption of the medication should improve. You may also look at your diet and restricting carbohydrates to help control your blood sugars.
374593 tn?1257879950 I do not feel that Metformin will directly affect release of the follicles but it can overall help you with PCOS in conjuction with fertility medication. I would not use Metformin alone since it has been demonstrated in a study that ovulation is better with ovulation medications than with Metformin alone. Perhaps all of your follicles do not ovulate because the size is not optimal when you get the HCG trigger.
1537195 tn?1294460563 Most people with PCOS do not ovulate which is needed to become pregnant (ovulation=release of egg). However there are medications out there like metformin and clomid that help. Clomid helps your eggs to mature and then you can use ovadriel (hcg "trigger shot") which will force your body to release the mature eggs. I used clomid and ovadriel to help become pregnant.
Avatar f tn I heard that if Metformin causes side effects that I should get extended release Metformin and I should not have any of the side effects; stomach problems etc.... Has anyone else heard this?
Teacher I never knew metformin had that side effect, I have no side effects from it
Avatar f tn I have had the same side effect, shortness of breath with Metformin Extended Release. Metformin gives me a bit of a rush and causes shortness of breath. Definitely see your Doctor for that. I had to switch to Glumetza, which did not give me the problem most of the time (only mildly and rarely) but is a little less effective on my blood sugar... I feel much better on the Glumetza!
Avatar n tn do you know what form of metformin you were on? the extended release is much easier on your system. I am currently ttc, I had over 86 cysts and after 4 months on metformin on my last scan i had about 30!! It's not impossible for you to get pregnant just bc of cysts, give metformin another try and like niki sayd diet can make a big difference in how your body reacts. good luck, let me know if you need anything.
Avatar f tn When I was first diagnosed with type 2 they gavee metformin normal release, i had to take three times a day, I passed out and felt really weak on them, I went back to the dr who gavee the slow release version glocophage and I have them morning and night and have for the past 4 years with perfect bloods and no side effects, sometimes the normal Metformin gets into certain people's blood to quick, hence the slow release version
1300526 tn?1275771621 What is better? the coated ones or non coated, is there a difference in how they work, ie, time release vs instant absorbtion and therefore a certain way to take em? Should I take two in am and two in afternoon for the day to help my blood or one per meal during the whole day?
194838 tn?1303428544 Hi, I am taking Glucophage (slow release Metformin) and have just been prescribed Januvia to take also. I have had stomach pains and upset stomach since being on them, the plus side is that I have lost weight so am very happy about that but wondered if anyone else has experienced the stomach pain and if so how long did it take for it to subside. If anyone has any advice etc I would be so grateful.
1187113 tn?1320691496 I have been taking Metformin 500mg 3x a day for almost a week now...on Friday, I had a problem digesting my food properly...It took until almost 5 o'clock for my breakfast biscuit to digest, which is very unusual being it was eaten at 9 or earlier...then after eating pizza around 7 and going to sleep at about 1 a.m...I awoke at 5:39 a.m. gagging and vomitting to the point that I had to take phenergan to gain some relief...
Avatar m tn Don't know what you're working on. Time release is slow release. When I managed health food stores the saying about time release was, expensive urine or bowel movements, since the body evacuates before the stuff comes out of the capsule.
Avatar f tn m also on Metformin extended release, do u think that could be the cause?
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor about Metformin Extended Release, It has a lot less side effects than the regular release metformin. If you start now, when you are married and wanting kids you will already be on the right track. Taking the metformin may help you with some of the weight as well, It has for so many of us!!
Avatar f tn While I was on it I lost weight my monthly cycle was regular. Some time later my symptoms re-occurred. I began taking Metformin XR (slow release) and suffered no side effects. However, my symptoms are getting worse and the medication is not helping. I am on a low fat low carb diet and get regular exercise daily. Nothing seems to work and my weight is ever increasing. It's something I need to get on top of as there is a strong history of diabetes in my family.
Avatar n tn I have diabetes 2 take metformin extended release shortness of breath hasgotten very very bad had to do anything. can metformin have anything to do with this?
233562 tn?1282768382 Sounds awful! I'm so sorry you had to go through that! Are you sure you didn't have some sort of bug that coincidentally hit you when you started the metformin? At my RE on Monday they said there's been some sort of stomach flu going around. I've only ever had diarrhea with it - no nausea or vomitting and I could certainly be wrong, but I've personally never heard of anyone else throwing up with it either. I've even been on the highest dose - 2000mg.
245020 tn?1209657943 I am also on Metformin. It does take time for your body to adjust to the medication. A good thing to do is to take it with a meal. AFter you eat take it. This helped me out a lot. I still have some diarrhea but it isn't that bad. I take two pills in the morning and two pills at night. Good luck!!
Avatar f tn and put on Metformin. I have been on this medication for a little over a week, and I have noticed that I am starting to have a difficult time concentrating and am always fall asleep while standing tired. I am also getting light headed and dizzy even when my sugars are within acceptable range. Do these side effects go away with time or are they things I need to discuss with my doctor when I see him next.
801413 tn?1333539276 I am currently taking metformin 500mg extended release 2 at a time which is a little bit easier on the stomach. And have been taking them since May 20th and I use to have to take provera to start my cycle and this month like clock work my cycle started on its own on day 30.This is the forst time this has happended in over a year before my cycles would be like every 3 to 4 months . I have also read that it usually takes 3 to 6 months to regulate a cycle with metformin .
159063 tn?1247272817 The RX stands for extended release. In other words, its like time release where the medicine remains longer in the body. Lifestyle change is needed, not change of medicine. Good luck.
Tbd To the person taking Metformin Extended Release - I just read that it had been recalled due to cancer causing components!
Avatar m tn One tablet of Metformin 500mg extended release Sugar levels: Average fasting sugar level in the morning : 125 mg/dl (varies from 120 to 129) Average sugar level after two hours of breakfast (After taking Metformin): 120mg/dl Average sugar level after two hours of lunch : 150 mg/dl Problem: 1) There is weight loss of about 6 Kgs in the past 2 years. My weight of 56 Kgs became 50 kgs now.
Avatar n tn Metformin is a drug which is effective only if it is present in your body at the time the food is being assimilated. That makes Metformin ER a good drug of choice for those who eat many small meals. If you are a person who tends to eat two to three big meals a day, it really is a lesser choice than regular fast-acting Metformin. If your liver is dumping unusual amounts of glycogen in the morning try cutting way back on eating carbs @ dinner and/or after dinner snacking.
