Avatar n tn According to the prescribing information, heart failure, in particular, unstable or acute congestive heart failure, increases risk of lactic acidosis with metformin.[48] A 2007 systematic review of controlled trials, however, suggested metformin is the only antidiabetic drug not associated with any measurable harm in people with heart failure, and that it may reduce mortality in comparison with other antidiabetic agents.

225237 tn?1333138999 I have been on metformin for a couple of months now. When I first started I had some of the stomach problems. For almost the past week I just haven't felt myself, I have frequent loose stools... Can this be from the metformin?? Should I be worried?? I also suffer from anxiety so it really worries me... Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn d call your doc that is prescribing your medications. Are you on metformin for polycystic ovarian disease? Long cycles and abnormal bleeding is common for this disorder. Not sure how metformin would impact that. But do check in with your doctor. If the bleeding goes on past 7 days, I would also call your doc or if the clots are bigger than a quarter. good luck and let us know how it goes. I'll be interested to hear back from you as to how this resolves!
Avatar f tn Is your doctor prescribing you Metformin? My suggestion is always to try diet, exercise and weight loss first and if those don't lower blood sugar enough then consider meds. Exercise doesn't need to be heavy. Even regular walking can lower blood sugar. There is a lot of information online about diet, but stay away from fad "diabetes diets". Basically carbs are what raise blood sugar, simple carbs raise it worse.
1632323 tn?1425010283 He has also been prescribing metformin and Clomid for me over the past months. So why is it that I am not conceiving? Pls share your views with me. I would really appreciate it.
Avatar f tn We cannot diagnose nor exam you over the inet. Besides helping to lower to glucose [blood sugar] levels metformin is Rx'd to help with weight loss. Your prescribing doctor has your medical records and history and should be the one to direct your medication questions to.

Avatar n tn Lassix is a diuretic medication to help rid the tissue of the fluids and correctly prescribed for CHF. Metformin is for diabetes11, and the prescribing doctor SHOULD be aware of the CHF condition!!. You may want to call a pharmacy for more information. Removal of fluids with the diuretic will reduce the heart's workload and provide relief for a recovery. The prognosis for heart failure depends on the underlying cause.
225237 tn?1333138999 I do take a low dose of lisinopril which keeps my bp regulated, Metformin Er for the pre-diabetic which is under control and I have not taken anything for the cholesterol (it scares me to death) My cholesterol was total 227; tri 163; hdl 38; ldl 161 and vldl 33. My problem is I don't think my cholesterol is that bad and she didn't give me a chance to get it down with exercise before prescribing me medication!
Avatar m tn "When my sugar is really high I will take one extra metformin. Is this okay ?" No, never increase or decrease medication without your doctor's knowledge and permission. You can endanger yourself with a possible hypoglycemia episode. It might be time to see your doctor again as your medication regimen may be in need of adjustment.

Avatar f tn Losing weight is the first thing you need to do and it will benefit a lot. For normalising the hormones, medications like metformin and cyproterone acetate can be considered. Also a natural pregnancy is possible in women with PCOS. However in case of difficulty induction of ovulation can be done. Consult a gynaecologist and an endocrinologist for an evaluation. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations.
Avatar m tn There is an obvious conection between insulin resistance and PCOS - esp. since infertility is often treated with metformin, an insulin sensitizing drug. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn If I want to do the “glucose tolerance test” again to confirm or discard the possibility of having diabetes, at what time should I take the metformin the day before the test or I shouldn´t take metformin at all the day before? How long does metformin stay in your body??
Avatar n tn So ive sbeen on metformin for a littoe over a month 1500mg and prenatal viatmins and im feeling discouraged and I need faih and hope that im not going through this struggle in vain... any success stories out there ??????
Avatar f tn Just looking for anymore information or advise about withdraws from Fioricet / I have been taking this medication from years from Migrain headaches, it's seemed the longer I was on it the less it helped so I would increase my doses because I could not get rid of my headaches the other day I just stopped using it because it was like just this non stop headache.
Avatar f tn Metformin commonly prescribed to women with PCOS because PCOS is linked to insulin resistence. Metformin helps regulate insulin levels and therefore correct the hormone imbalance that might be causing the weight gain and infertility. I am not sure Metformin will help you lose weight unless you are exercising and watching your diet, but regulating your insulin will help get your body on track to losing weight more effectively.

Avatar f tn Maybe I am being your typically over-worried mother here, but I am wondering if there are any concerns about being on Metformin when you have the flu. My 20 year-old daughter has been on Metformin for PCOS for two years. She is showing symptoms of the flu, and to make it harder on me, she's on an internship in Florida, so I can't even "see" the symptoms. She tells me she has fever, headache, sore throat, dizziness, vomiting, and general achiness.
Avatar f tn In addition he was also given medication for Diabetes Type II, metformin 850 mg, glipizide 5mg, lisinopril 5 mg, simvastatin 20mg, Asprin 81 mg, Ranitidine 150 mg. Additionally he was also prescribed Naproxen 500mg and Alumina Magnesia 360 ml. I think this is too much medication. Any suggestions? The pain meds are for arthritic hip and knee and rotator cuff surgery.
