Common Questions and Answers about Metformin normal dose

Avatar f tn I have been on metformin for a year and there is the issue of your dose and all that jazz....for me I have to keep my dose low or bad stomach issues and mine is still not regular...
Avatar m tn 2 g of Metformin in close to the maximum dose. Do make sure you take some b vitamin supplement as metformin can decrease your body's absorption of b vitamins. Recommend you consider and look into low carb/ higher (healthy) fat diet. This approach is actually now being recognized as one of the better ways to deal with diabetes. Are you able to swim / walk in water or do non-weight bearing exercise, it may help (as well as with function).
Avatar n tn I take 2000 mg METFORMIN and a dose of insulin as well
1179632 tn?1263935878 as you stated in the answer to sarar78 (Metformin will not make you ovulate. In time it will help you to have normal cycles.) so is it necessary to ovulate in order to have a "normal" cycle on metformin?
4067667 tn?1349533022 So, my doc gave me clomid 50mg to help me ovulate and on day 21 I was asked to check my progesterone, but Im still not ovulating. Now my doc dose up my clomid to 100mg and she also gave me metformin. Im hoping to get pregnant. Have anyone successfully conceive on second cycle of clomid+metformin? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Correction to my comment; "For the long-acting form, metformin ER, the starting dose is metformin ER 500 mg once daily, and the maximum dosing is metformin ER 2000 mg once daily (or metformin ER 1000 mg twice daily).
Avatar f tn Recently my dose of metformin was increased to 2-500s night and morning. I developed h pylori and direarra. They treated the h pilori, howeverstill have direarra. I have noticed the metformin pills passing through completely whole. I have taken them apart, they still have powder in them. Also since the h pylori and increased metformin my blood sugar testing has gone to as high as 459. Went to dr and he put me on insulin. This has gradually brought blood sugars down to 114 and 250.
Avatar n tn what if i am not sure if i took my night dose of metformin.
Avatar f tn Metformin only has bad side affects if you: don't start with a small dose first, and then work your way up to the higher dose OR if you don't watch the fat content in your foods. I've been on it 2 years and never had bad side affects.
Avatar m tn That aside, your morning levels are tad high where normal max is 99 mg/dl. The others are well into normal. Stress and a herniated disk can elevate glucose levels by themselves. However, the A1c does not lie and is quite accurate. At 7.5% this equates to daily glucose average of 169 mg/dl. One has to ask if you're still on Prednisone and whether your dose has increased or decreased. And, the accuracy of your home test meter and whether it requires calibration. Some do some don't.
Avatar n tn Not everyone tolerates them equally. One side effect of Metformin is weakness. Also, taking Metformin in quarters is below the recommended dose and is so minimal, I highly doubt it has any affect on helping to lower your glucose [blood sugar] level. You should check with your doctor about other oral diabetes medications, that is, if you wish to continue treating your potential diabetes. "...I do not have any symptoms at all." Not everyone has diabetes symptoms.
766872 tn?1240341112 HI EVERYONE THIS IS MY FIRST DAY, BUT MY QUESTION IS TODAY I GOT AN ULTRASOUND AND THEY TOLD ME I HAVE 70 FOLLICLES?? BUT NONE OF THEM ARE MATURE YET THEY ARE VERY SMALL. IS THIS NORMAL? SHE QUESTIONED ME ALOT ABOUT MY METFORMIN AND WAS I TAKING IT, I TOLD HER YEAH BUT THATS NOT TRUE I ALWAYS SEEM TO MISS A DOSE SO COULD THIS BE THE REASON? SHE ALSO SAID THAT I HAVE A LOT OF EGGS AND THAT SHE REALLY DIDNT WANT TO MANY EGGS TO MATURE?
Avatar f tn The way to see if you can tolerate it is to start with a low dose (maybe 1/2 or 1/4 of a pill). Then build up the dose over a period of days / weeks. However, if your blood sugar numbers are very high (normal blood sugars are less than 140 all the time), please consider a low carb (moderate protein, high healthy fats) diet. And do not rule out insulin. Insulin is actually a great tool for controlling blood sugars.
801413 tn?1333539276 Okay, I've been taking metformin for about four months now. When will it start regulating my periods? Some of my other symptoms are getting better and I don't want to up the dose because it still makes me a bit nauseous occasionally. Not having sex, husband is deployed in the army. Pregnancy is not in any way responsible for the irregular periods.
Avatar m tn Hi I think you may be right. I would talk to her doctor as it does sound like the metformin dose she is on is too much. I recently had to have mine reduced because my A1C had gone down to 4.9 While 6 is very good for a diabetic. my Dad who is in his 70's is only required to keep his A1C under 7.
Avatar n tn After initiating metformin, many of the hormonal problems, including weight gain despite daily exercise and healthy eating habits, have greatly improved. However, several months after achieving a dose of 1250 mg of the metformin ER, I am experiencing profound food sensitivity and allergies that have been further complicated by colitis, vitamin D deficiency, fatigue, and chronic hives. The fatigue seems to persist despite vitamin D supplementation.
Avatar f tn I've been on metformin for 4 months, and haven't lost any weight- how many mg are you on? I take 1000mg/day. I haven't gained any weight either, which is good, but I wouldn't have minded a loss ;) We're ttc, so maybe it has something to do with the clomid. I've had some bad side effects to the metformin- I take one dose at night, with the idea of sleeping through it, but a few times I've woke up with nausea and gotten sick.
Avatar f tn You should notify your doctor of your low glucose experiences ASAP. Ask your doctor how to adjust your Metformin dose if needed. Do not change your medication dose or schedule without your doctor's advice.
587778 tn?1261397118 In Jan 2009 I upped the dose of Metformin to 2x a day per my doctor. I stopped my bcp in August 2009 and now am just taking Metormin 500mg 2x a day. So far it seems to be working on it's own. I had a period in August and now a period in September. And they are close in time frame. My first cycle without bcp was 30 days the next was 31 days, so not much of a difference and when i was on bcp I started on the 6th inactive pill.
1724834 tn?1310225415 I am taking 500 mg of metformin but she said she may up the dose once I get used to it. She warned me that it could upset me stomach and cause a lot of running to the bathroom....and OMG it did! When you had your IUD do you remember ever losing your sex drive? I'm sorry that's so personal but I have notices a huge difference in my sex drive about 3 weeks after having it inserted. Did you use anything to help you get pregnant?
Avatar f tn i spotted about 4-5 days before my period then it would come as normal when i was taking metformin; which was nice because i never knew when my period was coming so it was a warning for me like... better have some tampons in your purse. LoL he had me on it because apparently i do not ovulate and have PCOS. I took it for a couple months but the way it made me feel, i.e. sick with diarrhea was just not worth it to me. After I stopped taking it though I had normal periods for about 4 months.
