Avatar n tn my doctor wants me to change my medicine(from glyburide to methamorphin)is that mean that my diabetes is getting worst?I told them that I'm ok with glyburide because I'm using it for 8years now and I didn't see any bad effects on me.Can you please give me more helpful ideas?
Avatar m tn That is a low dose of metformin. Metformin can be helpful in getting things under control (it is a long used first line medication, and proven to be very useful). The medication can be stopped if you can get your levels down to normal. It is important to have normal blood sugar levels to prevent complications. Your first A1c was 6.1, this is an average BG of about 139 (7.7) Then you were 5.4, this is an average BG of about 114 (6.3) Now you are A1C of 6.4, this is an average BG of 150 (8.
Avatar f tn Thanks a lot for your response. I do eat food before taking Metformin. What I meant was "I'm in need of some kind of sweet to swallow the medicine". This may looks very childish, but I mean it. So I'm taking a date fruit with the medicine. Is that okay?
Avatar n tn I am pretty sure it is one of my metformin, but slightly swollen due to absorbing liquids in my stomach/bowel. My question is... if it is able to absorb liquids...why didn't it just dissolve like it is supposed to?? I am a little concerned as this is more than once it has happened, and I NEED those pills. I hate to be "flushing" them down the toilet...literally!
Avatar f tn It is generally recommended that people not use metformin and alcohol at the same time. Taking metformin and alcohol together can increase your risk of developing a life-threatening condition called lactic acidosis. Talk with your PCP if he/she permits "small amounts" of alcohol while taking metformin. If he/she does, you better have explained what "small amounts" means to them before you blindly consume too much alcohol.
393893 tn?1283551230 Hi ladies, starting metformin soon and I was wondering what to expect? I've been looking online and it seems to be a medicine for diabetics although I've seen women talking about it on the forum in the past. I'm sure my re explained this to me, but I was overloaded with other info so it probably went in one ear and out the other-so much to remember. Thank you for any help!!
1712386 tn?1308425981 Metformin helps regulate insulin levels so that the person can regulate their period and help with ovulation which is difficult in women with PCOS or even impossible for some without help with medicine. Metformin also helps a woman with PCOS have less of a risk for miscarriage (which is common with PCOS) especially if taken during the first trimester. Some woman cannot be helped with Metformin alone or it may not help at all. Clomid is often used with or without Metformin with women with PCOS.
223956 tn?1208737570 Metformin is usually given to people with insulin resistance...did ur doc do that test.

Avatar f tn This question is not exactly about Diabetes, but because metformin HCL is used in Diabetes treatment, I would like to know of any of you has experience with this medicine. Can you tell me about its side effects? Recently I went for a checkup and my doctor gave me Metformin for weight loss (It suddently went up to 99 kg though I was at 85 before and was following a strict diet plan).

Avatar n tn I am just wondering if there are any problems with drug interactions between Metformin and OTC meds like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Midol, Unisom, Allergy/Sinus meds, etc... Common things that a person might take for pain, sleeplessness, allergies, colds, etc?
Avatar m tn while only taking Glyburide So my doctor added Metformin. Three months later my A1C was 10.6. and two months after that it was 11.5. Stop taking the Metformin and now it's 10.2. this is three months later. I'm trying to figure out why this happen. When I ask my Doctor they are surprised, but had no answer for but want to change my medicine again.
Avatar f tn My doctor has only put me on it for 3 months and she said if im not pregnant in 3 months she would refer me to a gyno. Is that a bit ambitious?
Avatar m tn Metformin has been around for a long time, and is pretty effective at decreasing insulin resistance. It might increase liver enzymes a touch, but it’s usually a pretty good trade off. If you initiate metformin, you might get some mild to moderate GI issues; but these generally resolve after several weeks. Keep up with diet and exercise though; it really is an important component of DM II management, like it or not. What sort of A1c numbers are you getting? Are you considering HCV therapy?
1179632 tn?1263935878 As I've said before to so many on here, metformin will not make you ovulate. In time it will help you to have normal cycles, in which that is why doctors put us on this medicine. My doctor put me on it to help with my weight, and to give me a normal cycle...nothing to do with ovulation. I've been on metformin since September 2008 and along with birth control. I came off the birth control in August 2009, and since then I keep having my cycle everything month around 28-32 days.

Avatar n tn Could Metformin cause thinning or hair loss? I started two Metformin 500 mg a day last May. Went on a locarb, no processed foods or alcohol diet. Lost 30#'s. End of August, switched to one Metformin ER 500 mg a day cause my A1C went from 7.4 down to 5.2 in 3 1/2 months. I have thought of a vitamin or iron deficiency, but I eat a lot of healthy foods and haven't lost weight beyond the 30#'S I lost last summer. I read that some people on here think Victoza caused their hair loss.
Avatar m tn After the marriage I have got an irregular menstrual cycle. I consulted a VOG and she asked me to have Metformin for a month along with Folic acid. Since I consume the Metformin , I have been having the periods with blood clots for 3 weeks continuously. I got scared and stopped the medicine. But the period is still there. What should I do?
623922 tn?1223406991 I'm 29 and have been diagnosed with mild endo and pcos. I ovulate regularly and my DH is good to go. We've been ttc for a few years with no success. My doc feels that even though I'm ovulating, it's not a "good quality" ovulation so she is about to start me on a combo of metformin and clomid to increase my chances. Has anyone had any luck with this combo? I'm looking for inspiration....thanks!

Avatar n tn s a post by Gus who asked the same question yesterday. Diabetes medicine Metformin helps to produce insulin in the gut to "help" lower your glucose levels. It doesn't perform miracles nor does it lower your glucose levels by itself. The key word is "help." Lifestyle change is required. This is done by controlling your glucose levels with proper nutrition, moderate exercise, and weight control. Read my posts in the threads from Darkestlight and Gus on this forum.
714128 tn?1249136386 I started to wonder if my blood sugar could be dropping due to the metformin so I called my endo and though he wasnt in the office that day the nurse insisted that I not change anything and that it couldnt be from the medicine because that medicine wouldnt cause any symptoms like I am describing. Well after I got off the phone with the nurse I called the pharmacy who said my symptoms do sound like low blood sugar and that metformin can definitly effect your blood sugar.
Avatar f tn Okay so I recently found out I'm diabetic and have been put on the medicine metformin to help with my sugar, but when the doc put me on it she said GET BIRTH CONTROL because metformin majorly increases your chances of becoming pregnant, is anyone on metformin and become pregnany very easily?
