Why does my prescription label for Metformin say not to drink alcohol when taking this medication?

Hello, Metformin is basically used in type 2 diabetes and is used in PCOS. However Metformin has been used off-label to achieve pregnancy and when taken with clomiphene citrate, metformin enhances the probability of ovulation and pregnancy. I guess that I need to give a metformin testimonial too. After achieving SVR I've been on 2000 mg of metformin per day. I am still SVR. Therefore, metformin also provides a protective shield (almost like a vaccine) against further infection. The stuff is great, the stuff is cheap - if only they could miniaturize those horse pills somewhat.

Hi everyone, I've just finished my first cycle of Fermera (days 3-7 5mg) and have also started Metformin, the doc is cycling me up to 1500mg by week 4 (250/500/1000/1500)... if you are NOT a diabetic, ask the doctor why he has put you on metformin!! Metformin will lower your blood sugar and you need to be informed about possible hypoglycemic events...call your doctor now! Please let us know what he says...

i have type 2 diabetes and take metformin. i am trying to lose weight by doing the 2 meal replacement shakes from herbalife. is herbalife bad or good for type 2 diabetes. i drank a shake this morning for breakfast and then tested my blood sugar it was 170 and the night before when i went to bed it was 110. i'm also working out trying to lose weight. does herbalife meal replacement shakes raise your blood sugar, therefore bad for type 2 diabetes ?

You may have started on too high of a dose to begin with and a smaller dose will allow your system to adjust better. Metformin is used off label for your condition. A side effect is headache along with all the other symptoms that you described. I have had headaches turn into migraines. But again your pharmacist can better answer your questions. I'm am newly diagnosed as of a few days ago. I'm trying to get my blood sugar levels under control, but I haven't been able to get it under 200. Most of the time, even with metformin, my levels are between 300 to 400. This is very new and very scary. Any advice?

Snacking on nuts before bedtime is OK but read the nutrition label carefully. Like yogurt and other carb laden snacks mfg's add sugar for flavor. This can come in refined sugar, cane sugar, corn syrup, or carb sugar, etc. Carb sugar means every 7 grams equals one heaping Tablespoon of refined sugar [nasty]. I think most of the anticonvulsants are, with depakote being the exception rather than the rule. I believe this was brought on because of the insulin resistance and chronic stress my body was under. Hi welcome to the Hepatitis C community Olysio per the prescribing information sheet is intended to be used with interferon and Ribavirin. The same applies to Sovaldi. Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. You can web search for Cosmos clinical trial cohort 1 and cohort 2 to see study results.

I had to stop taking metformin completely as soon as I got my pregnancy confirmed. I was taking it for PCOS and insulin resistance. My dr said I'll probably start taking it after delivery and after I finished breastfeeding.
