Avatar f tn Why does my prescription label for Metformin say not to drink alcohol when taking this medication?
1907238 tn?1340711313 Hello, Metformin is basically used in type 2 diabetes and is used in PCOS. However Metformin has been used off-label to achieve pregnancy and when taken with clomiphene citrate, metformin enhances the probability of ovulation and pregnancy. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn I guess that I need to give a metformin testimonial too. After achieving SVR I've been on 2000 mg of metformin per day. I am still SVR. Therefore, metformin also provides a protective shield (almost like a vaccine) against further infection. The stuff is great, the stuff is cheap - if only they could miniaturize those horse pills somewhat.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I've just finished my first cycle of Fermera (days 3-7 5mg) and have also started Metformin, the doc is cycling me up to 1500mg by week 4 (250/500/1000/1500)... I'm not entirely sure what to expect, I've started the OPK tests and nothing yet, I'm at day 15 now, but based on this App I have - it's predicting my fertile days to start on Aug 31 ...
944631 tn?1246280052 if you are NOT a diabetic, ask the doctor why he has put you on metformin!! Metformin will lower your blood sugar and you need to be informed about possible hypoglycemic events...call your doctor now! Please let us know what he says...
Avatar m tn I posted about this a few weeks back about Metformin and here is the whole article about it. It is very interesting that a diabetes drug has been found to combat cancer and HCV. There are probably many other drugs already approved that could also help different diseases if used "off label". Usually these things are found out by accident. http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2010/nov2010_The-Drug-Virtually-Everyone-Should-Ask-their-Doctor-About_01.
Avatar m tn i have type 2 diabetes and take metformin. i am trying to lose weight by doing the 2 meal replacement shakes from herbalife. is herbalife bad or good for type 2 diabetes. i drank a shake this morning for breakfast and then tested my blood sugar it was 170 and the night before when i went to bed it was 110. i'm also working out trying to lose weight. does herbalife meal replacement shakes raise your blood sugar, therefore bad for type 2 diabetes ?
804918 tn?1238020692 You may have started on too high of a dose to begin with and a smaller dose will allow your system to adjust better. Metformin is used off label for your condition. A side effect is headache along with all the other symptoms that you described. I have had headaches turn into migraines. But again your pharmacist can better answer your questions. I also wanted to tell you (if you didn't know) that we have a Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome Forum on MedHelp.
Avatar n tn I'm am newly diagnosed as of a few days ago. I'm trying to get my blood sugar levels under control, but I haven't been able to get it under 200. Most of the time, even with metformin, my levels are between 300 to 400. This is very new and very scary. Any advice?
Avatar f tn Have you considered using metformin? I have PCOS and my pds were 3, 4, or 5 months apart. I started taking it and it immediately helped! My periods are now 30 days apart. Here is some info on it: "The Whole Story" Metformin (Glucophage) is a pharmaceutical drug often prescribed for women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).
Avatar f tn Snacking on nuts before bedtime is OK but read the nutrition label carefully. Like yogurt and other carb laden snacks mfg's add sugar for flavor. This can come in refined sugar, cane sugar, corn syrup, or carb sugar, etc. Carb sugar means every 7 grams equals one heaping Tablespoon of refined sugar [nasty]. In reality there really isn't a need for late night snacking as you're only satisfying a mental craving.
7773352 tn?1394065574 I think most of the anticonvulsants are, with depakote being the exception rather than the rule. I think some people take metformin (a diabetes drug) with atypical antipsychotics, and it might help with the weight gain. I think it's an off label use though. Abilify is weight neutral for most people though. Lithium actually does have weight gain listed as a side effect, although everyone's different.
996769 tn?1249681013 here's an example of a label that says do not use if you have --- thyroid disease Caution: Do not use BreastSuccess if you are pregnant, nursing, or have any of the following conditions: high blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid disease, glaucoma, diabetes, difficulty urinating due to prostate enlargement, or if you are now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease), or for two (2
Avatar n tn Lassix is a diuretic medication to help rid the tissue of the fluids and correctly prescribed for CHF. Metformin is for diabetes11, and the prescribing doctor SHOULD be aware of the CHF condition!!. You may want to call a pharmacy for more information. Removal of fluids with the diuretic will reduce the heart's workload and provide relief for a recovery. The prognosis for heart failure depends on the underlying cause.
568322 tn?1370165440 This is the first study showing that taking insulin sensitizers (like Metformin) to decrease INSULIN RESISTANCE, increases SVR. I have waited a long, long time for this study. Now we can use this study to get doctors to test people for insulin resistance and prescribe Metformin. Success rate is about to go up.....yes! TRIC-1 Study: Metformin Added to Peginterferon alfa-2a and Ribavirin Improves RVR Rate in Treatment-Naive Genotype 1 HCV Patients With Insulin Resistance.
1353650 tn?1429463374 I believe this was brought on because of the insulin resistance and chronic stress my body was under. I am currently being treated with metformin for insulin resistance and armour med. for the thyroid. I am more than half way there. I have more energy and a lot less pain. My muscles are able to handle mild exercise without screaming at me. Insulin resistance is treated though diet (no sugar, complex carbs only, and 5-6 small meals a day), exercise (mild, at least 30 min a day) and medication.
100019 tn?1335919717 For genotype 1 patients who cannot take interferon, the panel recommends sofosbuvir plus the HCV protease inhibitor simeprevir (Olysio), with or without ribavirin, again for 12 weeks. This off-label regimen has not been through full Phase 3 testing, but performed very well in the Phase 2 COSMOS trial.
Avatar n tn Did your doctor prescribe it to you for this? If not, STOP right now...'experimenting' with prescription medications, which are extremely addictive can NEVER have good outcomes.
Avatar f tn They all have reported feeling better daily - this off label approach is a God Send! Now I will finish out the 12 weeks - they will do the viral load test again at that time and then 12 weeks post treatment test again to declare me officially SVR!!! NO HORRIBLE INTERFERON OR RIBAVARIN THIS TIME FOR ME!!
1635208 tn?1300807160 Hi welcome to the Hepatitis C community Olysio per the prescribing information sheet is intended to be used with interferon and Ribavirin. The same applies to Sovaldi. Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. You can web search for Cosmos clinical trial cohort 1 and cohort 2 to see study results.
Avatar f tn I had to stop taking metformin completely as soon as I got my pregnancy confirmed. I was taking it for PCOS and insulin resistance. My dr said I'll probably start taking it after delivery and after I finished breastfeeding.
