My sugar values have remained non-diabetic since 2007 despite my medication doses being cut in half in 2009 thanks to frequent episodes of low blood sugar caused by the medication. I took metformin and it made me tired. It kept my sugar readings at this freaky weird level of 150 - constantly! I had to go off of it and on to something else - and eventually - I ended up on insulin shots cause I just didn't respond to oral meds that well. Hey - I am a believer in Metformin. I have PCOS and I ovulated the first month I was on it - didn't get preggo but I ovulated. I would go months without a period so this was a big accomplishment for me :) I started the medicine on CD1 and I ovulated around CD 18. So, I liked that part about it.... Ok, here comes the bad news: It sucks! Well, at least in the beginning. Go as slow as possible when upping the meds. Also (VERY IMPORTANT) make sure you EAT BEFORE you take it.

I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in March of this year. My A1C was 7.8. I was given Metformin to take 2x Daily. I really have changed nothing since starting the Metformin. Prior to starting I spent 3-4 hours a week in the gym and I continue to go 3-4 hours a week. I even went on a cruise during this time. So I would say Metformin affects us all differently. I have heard of people using it as a weight loss drug.
