metformin in ivf

I am taking Metformin and doing IVF. I am at the stage of IVF that I am going to go to retrieval soon. I was told that I had to take Metformin all the way through my pregnancy. It makes the cysts go away.

I have been advise by the IVF doctor to stop metformin now but have been advised by my OB/Gyn to continue till after fetal heart beat is found. What do I do?

hi everyone, I am currently on Metformin and due to start Clomid in 2 months. I have been on metformin now for over a month and still no period. How long does it take? Does it work? .......I am trying to not let this get me down but i am worrying whether it will or not and when.......can anyone help me?

Metformin does not really help with ovulation. Generaly it is given because of pcos. Losing weight (if overweight) will help you to ovulate. Your doctor probably gave you metformin because you have pcos. Like Lori said she didnt ovulate while taking this, she started ovulating when she lost around 40lbs. I too have lost about 42lbs (but im on birth control) so i cant tell you if i ovulate.

My husband and I are planning to do IVF in June. We have been on clomid for 5 cycles and did 3 IUIs. The only issue is that I don't ovulate regularly. Last month I got my period on my own. Then I began doing accupuncture. On CD 26 there were three times that I went to the washroom between 6 and 9 pm. Each time there was some pink and brown discharge. Not a lot. I thought that my period may be coming. Now it is CD 30 and still no period. Normally I track everything.

I am over weight (242 lbs) and started metformin in october. since starting metformin i've lost a little over 20 lbs. do you think if i lost more weight i would respond better to the meds. hi everyone ive been tryin for a baby for 3 years now,ive got pco,and only one follopen tube,i have been put on metformin 500 3 times a day and i start my clomid in 3 days 100 a day for 5 days,do you know if this will help me get pregnant,i really hope so.

In 2007 I got pregnant with injections and IUI, but than had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. In 2009 I had IVF but got severe OHS and was hospitalized so I had to wait a couple of month for a FET. On my second FET I got pregnant but had a chemical pregnancy. So I'm back to IUI. I just a IUI on nov 23, so I hope all is well. I wish you the best and I believe you will get pregnant so don't give up.

No, not pregnant (yet) I like to say! My husband and I are in the process of our first IVF cycle. We've hit a few obsacles but everything is working out good. We won't be doing actual ivf until Aug or Sept I was diagnosed with a mild case of PCOS, that is the reason for the metformin.

I am on 2000mg of metformin and it took me 3 months before my menstrual cycle became regular.I have pcos which caused me to not have my menstrual for month's. But since I've been on the metformin I've been doing really good...it just take a little bit longer sometimes. I've just got done doing ivf and I'm still on metformin through my whole pregnancy. I am not taking any extra precautions. I did IVF with both of them.. Am taking progesterone, estrogen, prenatals, metformin, and baby aspirin. The metformin and baby aspirin is suppose to help with the miscarriage risk.

Doctor prescribed Metformin and Progesterone to help me conceive. I am not diabetic. I am 21 years old. I had a son in 2015 but lost him due to pprom that caused a placenta abruption. I conceived him naturally with no trouble. Now it's hard and the doctor has no clue why. He said he wanted to try Metformin and Progesterone to see if it helps it's the least aggressive way to try to get pregnant.

I also have pcos and I had to take 2000mg of metformin for 3 months before my menstrual became regular. I know everyone is different. I justhad ivf done I'm in my two week wait to see if both or one of my embryos stuck. And also clomid helped alot and also letrozole which is also know as femara.

I do not feel that Metformin will directly affect release of the follicles but it can overall help you with PCOS in conjuction with fertility medication.
