604185 tn?1233960857 I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and was on diet for a week. But the glucose level don't seem to fall in the normal range. So doctor put me on glyburide, that I have to start tonight. My concern is is that going cause any problem to my baby??? Has anyone used this medicine in pregnancy? Please advice.
Avatar f tn My thing is this you only need to take metformin if you have uncontrollable diabetes. With my daughter my gestational diabetes was so out of control they had me on 90 units of insulin a day to keep us well I was passing out every where but from my experience with this being my third pregnancy if you are going to have a miscarriage you are going to have it. I know it may sound harsh but its the truth usually when the sperm and egg come together the chromosomes will add up or they wont.
Avatar f tn Thanks ladies. is this used for Gestational Diabetes?!
Avatar f tn Who's had gestational diabetes ? Did u carry full term or did u deliver early on ur own or have to be induced ? I have gestational diabetes this pregnancy but didn't with my first.. I'm almost 32 wks and starting to freak out did u have baby vaginally or have to have a c-section?
Avatar f tn Yes I was diagnosed with GD today and was given metformin and a glucose monitor to check my sugar blood daily. :( yes I am gonna try to keep a steady diet from now til I give birth. I don't want to have prolong diabetes in the long run.
1306788 tn?1334752651 Sadly I have been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, they've put me on metformin which is making me feel quite ill. I'm glad they caught it, but disappointed as it means I will not have the normal birth I was hoping for. I was really hoping for a water birth, but they will now most likely induce me early so I give birth to 'normal' sized baby.
6674791 tn?1396215150 I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy. I controlled it very well. This is my second pregnancy and my sugars were too high for fasting so they put me on metformin and I'm doing great. I don't have regular diabetes so I was thrown off when I was told I'd need medicine. But when I got pregnant my body decided it didn't wanna function normally. My doctor doesn't think I'll need to keep going on the meds after I deliver.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking metformin once a day as a preventive for diabetes- (had gestational diabetes but not diabetic now). No other medications. Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn (9) REDUCED RISK OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES. In another study at Jewish Hospital in Cincinatti, gestational diabetes risk was evaluated in two groups of PCOS women. The first group was 33 non-diabletic women who had conceived while taking metformin or took it during their pregnancy. This group was compared to a group of 39 PCOS women who did not take it. Only 3% of the metformin group developed gestational diabetes as compared to 31% in the non-metformin group.
1712386 tn?1308425981 Metformin is a drug used to control type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. So maybe I am little confused but was this supposed to assist you in becoming pregnant. I am only asking because I have taken that drug during my first pregnancy and I am continuing to take it through this one.
325405 tn?1262290178 t even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that. I also know that gestational diabetes is more strict with blood sugar levels than regular type II diabetes.
Avatar f tn Hey moms, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes early last year. I'm 10w 2d and was just curious if there were any other type 2 moms out there. Would love some support from others.
Avatar f tn I would be worried that it could be gestational diabetes with sugar in your urine. Have you had your 1 hr GTT? Glucose test? Gestational diabetes doesn't happen with every pregnancy and usually goes away after pregnancy but if you do have it you will need to change your diet. Best of luck to you and your baby!
Avatar f tn How many of you ladies have had gestational diabetes ? What was the outcome ? Did u carry full term did u go into preterm labor or did u have to be induced ? Did u deliver vaginally or need a c-section?
Avatar f tn Metformin may lower the risk of miscarriage or gestational diabetes in women with PCOS, but this has not yet been confirmed by research. Metformin is probably safe to take while you are pregnant. But because metformin is only FDA-approved for the treatment of diabetes, you should talk with your doctor about the use of this medicine for reducing your risk for miscarriage or treating PCOS symptoms. Side Effects The most common side effects of metformin are: Nausea.
10589910 tn?1413272458 I was a type 2 diabetic. I was on metformin.
Avatar n tn 060) - dr is saying that he does not think I have diabetes at all, and he wants to withdraw the Metformin. (I am in Canada if that makes a dif in reults). My question is - isn't my A1C good BECAUSE I take the Metformin? I mean, isn't that what its for - to get back within range with blood sugars? Does this result say to YOU that I do not have diabetes after all? What will happen to me if he withdraws the Metformin?
Avatar f tn I had PCOS as well passed my first test but failed my glucose test... they gave me the chance to change my diet and control it so i wont have to take metformin...
10443766 tn?1410724207 I was diagnosed about 10 years ago not long after I had my daughter, I was borderline for gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with her. I am about 6 weeks now and was just wondering how expecting mommies that have the same issues are doing and how far along they are?
Avatar f tn [6] Additionally, there are numerous reports using metformin for the treatment of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), without evidence of fetal harm.[7-9] Although metformin does cross the placenta, a partial placental barrier likely exists, as maternal and fetal concentrations are different.[5,6,10] Several studies have reported an increased risk of spontaneous abortion in women with PCOS, perhaps 20% to 40% higher than in the general obstetric population.
Avatar f tn My doc gave me a script for a glucomitor and supplies and I had to keep a low sugar/carb diet and test my sugar after every meal.
Avatar f tn I was on metformin before pregnancy when i found out they immediately took me off. I was told some women stay on till mid 2nd tri but have to b taking off after that. Me and my doc didnt wanna take any chances since you dont have to b on it...u can do insulin like stated above which is safer. Good luck tho...
1901568 tn?1339091941 My sister has pcos and did not get gestational diabetes. She did however, get diabetes a few years after the baby. I have my glucose test next month. I'm personally going to take someone with me.
Avatar f tn I'm on a small dosage. Only 750ER once a day. I'm glad I decided to stay on it through my pregnancy because I ended up with gestational diabetes and I'm able to control my blood sugar through my diet with the help of the Metformin. My baby is a normal healthy size as well. I honestly don't believe the Met will do any damage to the development of a fetus. The pro's have outweighed the cons in my case.
