Avatar f tn My doctor just placed me on Metformin 500mg for 7 days, and then I will take it twice a day after that. I took my first pill today, and a little while later I got a headache and felt like I had to eat something. The weakness part went away, however I still have a headache. I was wondering how everybody eles' expierence with this medication was and if this really helps.

1414706 tn?1322598630 My endo prescribed Metformin for me almost a year ago. My A1C was 5.9 in April 2015, down from 6.0 in December 2014. I've noticed that when I miss taking the Metformin pills (I'm forgetful), I sleep better at night, and when I take it as prescribed (2 pills morning & 2 pills night), I wake up around 2am every night, with a sweat soaked pillow. This has been going on for a couple of months now. Recently, I've started waking up with mild headaches. What's going on?
Avatar f tn Hi Ladies I just have as question about metformin whats the side effects some of you may have had? I start to take metformin today so maybe this will bring on my period. I had a natural m.c in nov 2008 and no AF as of yet.
Avatar f tn 5mg dose of Olanzapine daily, and along with it has advised me to take 500mg of Metformin three times daily. I was only taking the Metformin twice daily, but because I have gained a few pounds, my doctor thought it I should take more. I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence that since taking three I have had a persistent headache, have been generally sick to my stomach, and just not feeling well.
Avatar f tn Maybe I am being your typically over-worried mother here, but I am wondering if there are any concerns about being on Metformin when you have the flu. My 20 year-old daughter has been on Metformin for PCOS for two years. She is showing symptoms of the flu, and to make it harder on me, she's on an internship in Florida, so I can't even "see" the symptoms. She tells me she has fever, headache, sore throat, dizziness, vomiting, and general achiness.
Avatar n tn I m diabetic and using metformin, but I red that are risks of kidney failure with the contrast if my kidneys are not working fine. My PD forgot that I was using metformin till I told him and told me to stop the medication for 2 weeks before the scan. If my kidney results comes with normal level of creatinine is it safe to do the contrast? Can a MRI without the contrast reveal any more than just a CT scan. I would rather pay for the MRI than CT scan with contrast.
Avatar m tn Hi. I'm not sure if my 48-year-old mom's fever-like symptoms of headaches and pain right now has anything to do with diabetes, but in case it does: About 5 months ago, the doctor said that my mom was at risk of being diabetic and diagnosed her with pre-diabetes and prescribed her to take a 500 mg tablet of Metformin every day. After another checkup one month ago, the doctor said her glucose levels were normal again, and she was to stop taking Metformin.
Avatar f tn non fasting glucose was154 and AC1 was 6.5. He put me on metformin 250mg. Side-affects were severe headache, nausea, chest pain, stomach cramps, watery stools and insommia(34 hrs). Next he tried 1/2 pill evey other day and I have the same side affects only insommia is 20 hours and counting.
804918 tn?1238020692 i have been recently been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, i am 22 years old and have been prescribed Metformin 500mg which i am suppose to take twice daily with food for approx 3-4 months.
Avatar n tn I am new to this diagnosis, so I am still learning what it means and how to deal with it. Anyway, I started taking the 500 mg dose of Metformin twice a day about two months ago. I was told to come in for a fasting glucose test, so I did. When the test was done I had not had anything to eat for twelve hours and was famished. I also had a headache that didn't disappear until after I had eaten. To my surprise the blood glucose level came back as high -- 170.
Avatar f tn Hey! I am in the same boat. I just finished my shots. They don't hurt (mine don't at least). They are pretty expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it. Many people with PCOS (I have it too) use metformin (I do) and have gotten preggo with just the metformin(I didn't). Try the metformin, and do the shots if you can. I have sore boobies and hot flashes on the meds and that is it. I got preggo with my first set of shots in January but miscarried in March. Hope this helps.
1167457 tn?1291860189 I'm so frustrated. I haven't had a period since dec. Started taking Metformin for PCOS in late Jan and ovulated on Feb 4-6 (confirmed by OPK) so we BD during that time. . I took a test this past Mon and it was negative... early and I know. I have had terrible cramps that make me feel weak and even faint. I'm sick to my stomach, emotional, headache, etc. Today I started spotting. I guess I just need support and reassurance. How long does it take to conceive on metformin.
233562 tn?1282768382 I started my Metformin Thursday night because I didn't know how it would effect me. Well I woke up Friday morning extremely nauseous(sp?) but I felt better after I ate so I took my second dose. After that it was all down hill. I was vomitting and had diarrhea (TMI?) all day long. I couldn't even keep down water. Same thing all day saturday. Saturday night I was able to keep down a few crackers and water so I didn't go to the doc figured the medicine was leaving my system.
550943 tn?1330727580 Two weeks i began taking Metformin to help regulate insulin levels due to my PCOS. I have been slowly increasing dosage and am up to 250mg per day. I am currently 9DPO and the past four days i have been feeling dizzy, have had a headache that won't go away, i'm constipated, have increase appitite, feeling really cold and feeling exhausted and yesterday i actually passed out in the shower. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's going on with me?

Avatar f tn Hi, I just started taking Metformin for my new diagnosed Diabetes 2 and today right around lunch time i started feeling really shaky and just overall weird. Is that the deabetes or the meds?
Avatar f tn Ok, so I have pcos and when I 1st started metformin, it made me bleed very lightly from the 1st day until I stopped, which was about a week later, because I didnt know why I was bleeding like that. So I decided about a month later that I was going to take it again and even if i bled like that again, just keep taking it until something positive happened. So I did, and I bled very lightly again, and then it stopped.
Avatar f tn 75 Since I have been taking this medication my blood sugars are way out of wack. My doctor put me on 500 mg of Metformin once per day when the AC1 test came back at 6.4 . Since starting the Metformin when I test periodically during the day it has been as high as 156 4 hours after a meal and between 108 and 130 upon waking. My question is...could the Levthyroxine be making me become diabetic?
Avatar m tn Constant indigestion and itchy skin on my back and legs now all round my mouth is red and sore. I have had quite a few dizzy spells (more feeling funny) with a headache after them. My appetite is poor but I have not lost weight although prior to diagnosis I lost loads. doctor said as my blood count was not bad 7.5 just come in 6months to see how I am then. is anyone else feeling so rough.
Avatar n tn Once I eat or drink (nonwater) anything I feel better for about 15minutes then I feel very tired and get a pressure type headache with dizziness. I was on Metformin for the IR but with no results, it would make me feel dizzy and tired on top of the stomach problems. Suggestions??
Avatar f tn For a little over a month I have had clear semi-hard shelled objects coming out when I have a bowel movement. They are perfectly round and seem to be air/fluid filled. I don't feel them come out, they are not in my stool, but float freely and do not go down when you flush!! (which is how I realized I had them) I don't seem to have any of the obvious symptoms (i.e, stomach cramps, vomitting, headache etc) I haven't travelled anywhere or eaten anything strange.
233562 tn?1282768382 Also he prescribed Metformin which I am not completely understanding what it does. I know that it helps to regulate my insulin but as far a getting pregnant, will it increase my chances of ovulating on my own? Anyone who has any knowledge about this, could you please help me understand this whole thing. I have had two pregnancies before (one full term, one ectopic) naturally so using meds and intervention is new to me. Any input would be very helpful.
