Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Pre Diabetes last NOV & put on Metformin twice a day. I am 37 years old 5'6 & weigh 170. I do have family history of late onset . Isn't diabetes @ 37 @ my weight unusual?
Avatar m tn About 5 months ago, the doctor said that my mom was at risk of being diabetic and diagnosed her with pre-diabetes and prescribed her to take a 500 mg tablet of Metformin every day. After another checkup one month ago, the doctor said her glucose levels were normal again, and she was to stop taking Metformin. Starting one week ago, fearing that her glucose levels might rise too high with all the holiday food, my mom unwisely decided to take a 500 mg tablet of Metformin every day again.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Metformin for a couple years now because my doctor said I was pre-diabetic. I had my first OB appointment yesterday, and he advised me to stop taking the Metformin, since I wasn't diabetic. Everything I have read on the issue says that taking Metformin while you are pregnant can help with early miscarriage, gestational diabetes, and a whole list of other problems that could possibly arise. I could really use a second opinion! Thanks!
Avatar n tn I am currently taking metformin once a day as a preventive for diabetes- (had gestational diabetes but not diabetic now). No other medications. Should I be concerned?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 weeks ago. The Dr. prescribed metformin. I asked for a referral to an endocrinologist since I have an autoimmune disease (Stiff person syndrome + not overweight, normal blood pressure and choloesterol is normal). They said they would refer me to an endocrinologist. 6 days later hadn't heard anythoing from an endocrinoligst so called the Dr.'s office and they resent the referal. Week later still haven't heard anything from an endocrinologist.
Avatar f tn Im pre-diabetic.Type 2 of course. When I found out I was pregnant I immediatly quit taling my Metformin. I now only consume 170 carbs a day. 45 at each meal and 15 for each snack. So I eat roughly 5 times a day. I don't eat super late at night. I do cheat but its usually like that I combine my snack and take a walk around the block. It's much easier said then done though. At first I had to look at lables and write every thing out in a food diary to keep track.
Avatar f tn My new endocrinologist prescribed metformin because my father who also has also has diabetes and my dr thinks I may develop pre-diabetes myself..I have been taking it for 2.5.months now and all it did was to give me constipation. My bs levels are nearly the same. Anyone else on it to advise me?. I am normal weight perfect chol/trigly.
639406 tn?1308877111 i was diagnosed with per diabetes and they put me on metformin!! im so mad i did everything to stay away from this and here i am very close to have the type 2. can someone help me or explain to me how this happens? i was craving sweets for a while then i wanted nothing but salt..
Avatar m tn Still, I don’t understand why a person with a glucose range in the normal range should be taking diabetes medication at this point, and with an A1C reading still in the pre-diabetes range. (I also don’t understand why the two readings conflict like this.) I’m an accountant by occupation, but I’m also a writer of short stories with periodical credits. If an editor wants to make changes to my work on simple editorial matters, I don’t object.
Avatar n tn The A1c test is a measure of control, not a diagnostic test, so it is very possible that the Metformin is controlling your blood sugar and that is why your A1c is good. Metformin is also used as a preventative for people with pre-diabetes. You could discuss lowering your dose with a doctor. Metformin is an insulin sensitizer and doesn't work on the food you eat like some other oral medications.
193609 tn?1292180293 Metformin is a drug typically used for type II diabetes, but apparently works well for PCOS as well. I also know a couple of people who are on it for diabetes or pre-diabetes and they've lost a lot of weight also. Might be worth checking into. At any rate - continue to eat healthy and exercise - you will need that no matter what med you might get. Good luck and come back regularly.
878888 tn?1319634044 I have 2 questions, If I take Metformin with evening meal and thyroid in am is there still a chance for interaction? Is there a good diet that works for people who have somewhat high blood sugar level but not at extremes that will help me lose weight. Sorry for the book, but am really concerned as I am a single mom with a 15 yr old still to raise and I must be able to keep working to support both of us.
Avatar n tn I have always, as far as I can remember, had high sugar level results when having my blood tested for annual check-ups. However nothing was ever done about recommendations or advice from the various doctors over the years. Recently after a yearly physical a doctor started me on metformin which made me physically very drained, not tired or weak, but very loose, if that is the right word, and sort of wiped out in a physical sense. The prescription dose was 500 mg.
Avatar f tn According to the International Diabetes Federation, your A1c of 6.2 would fit you into a pre diabetes diagnosis, You should work out a meal plan with a dietician and have a watch over your carbohydrate intake along with routine exercise, metformin is relatively safe and should bring down your A1c along with a good lipid profile and no hypoglycaemia. Do have a routine checkup of fasting blood glucose , eye and urine test done.
Avatar n tn what type of food should you eat when your doctor tell you you are pre diabetes. and put you on metformin?
296076 tn?1371334474 I guess I would like below the pre-diabetes level. My doc did say if I loose weight it could go away altogether. Nut I thought once you got diabetes it was forever.
Avatar f tn //www.webmd.com/diabetes/diabetes-thrush I would try to cut down on sugar in your diet if you haven't already, do the things necessary to deter developing full diabetes (manage diet, exercise, etc.) which should also help with multiple yeast infections. I'm sure this is very frustrating for you. There are other reasons for chronic yeast infections too. Talk to your doctor. https://www.healthline.
225237 tn?1333138999 I have some questions, but first here is my history. Im 32 female 210 pounds 4' 11'. I do take lisinaporil 5 mg for high blood pressure and 500 mg 1X Metformin ER. My sugars are usually always within mormal limits, I think my last a1c was 5.2, cant recall at the moment but she said my sugar levels were wonderful. However, she did other testing when she did the a1c. Cholosterol screenings, results were my total cholesterol was 227; triglyerides 163; hdl 38; vldl 33 and ldl 161.
Avatar m tn I have been pre-diabetic for almost 1.5 years now. I have had tingling sensation all over the body, Numbness in feet and slight neurotic pain in the legs below knees. And I have been having these bumps on my penis and pubic region for the same amount of time. I have been negative for STDs. And recenly the tingling, itching is mostly in the groin area. My vision seems to be blurred since yesterday. My fasting sugars right now range between 104 -118.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor about taking metformin. This will help regulate your insulin levels which will help your diabetes and will work with your ovaries to hopefully get them to ovulate. Metformin has also been known to help women lose weight combined with diet and exercise. Watch your portion size. When you eat a carb make sure you've got a protein. Cut out sugars. Start walking.
Avatar f tn I have taken metformin 500mg for a year. How long does it take metformin to lose its efficacy. How long it will do its work before I have to increase dosage or change medication?
1090423 tn?1286287650 i am on warfarin for dvt and metformin for diabetes nothing has changed , i have only been on warfarin for 5 weeks
Avatar n tn Metformin alone, with moderate diet restrictions is often enough to keep glucose within manageable limits.
Avatar m tn Ramukor, I'm sorry but your doctor is very ignorant. "Not to worry unless the limit crosses 7.0???" 6.5 is considered fullblown diabetes which needs to be treated. I would see another doctor. As for prediabetes, it is a good opportunity to start to make some lifestyle changes in order to slow the progression to diabetes. The things like weight loss, reducing carb intake, exercise are very appropriate for a pre-diabetic.
Avatar f tn IR or insulin resistance is a sign of type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. I am assuming you are referring to either the A1C or fasting blood glucose levels. The first thing of course is a change in life style. This does not mean you have to stop eating everything but to be more judicious in your eating habits. In addition, regular exercise is paramount in reducing those :numbers". Talk this over with your physician and get started on these changes.
225237 tn?1333138999 Keep in mind an A1c measures your glucose over the past 3 months but does not provide for daily levels. A glucose tester is better to see what your daily pre and postprandial levels are.
