Avatar f tn I have heard that Metformin helps with ovulation. I have been taking Metformin for almost a year now for type 2 diabetes. If this is true, will the Metformin still help me with ovulation eventhough it is serving another purpose in my body?
Avatar n tn Metformin is highly known for it's help with ovulation with PCOS patients. F.Y.I., eat with your Metformin and don't take it late at night. Diarrhea is VERY common with this medication until your body gets used to it! Good luck on baby #2!
Avatar f tn Hi I also have PCOS and is on Metformin and also just started a round of Gonal F. Thats is supposed to help with ovulation. The metformin does not make me sick anymore, I take 1 in the morning and 2 at night that way if I feel sick I wouldn't know cause I'm asleep. LOL and so far it has worked for me. I did also try clomid but it didn't work for me, and I wa taking Follisitim and that, I did make me ovulate and I had AF with out taking pills...
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. I have PCOS and I ovulate about the same time as you. I have had one miscarriage. I'm not sure when I ovulated with the baby that I miscarried because it was a surprise pregnancy. I know that I ovulated around CD18 with my current pregnancy and was able to sustain it this time. The last pregnancy, I discontinued using Metformin as suggested by my OB. This time (new OB) I stayed on Metformin.
Avatar f tn So they started me on SPRINTEC N SPIRONPROLACTONE and i was wondering will this help or do i need to try METFORMIN OR CLOMID.... i also have a cyst on my right ovary. What is the next step for me.
Avatar f tn So the first treatment option for infertility is usually the administration of drugs to induce ovulation like Clomid. Secondly Glucophage or Metformin is an insulin-sensitizing agent that is sometimes used in conjunction with Clomid. Other than that, Injectable HCG, Hmg, FSH, GnRH and assisted reproduction like IUI, IVF, GIFT AND ICSI may also be used. Please discuss these treatment options with your doctor as they will help in conception.

327405 tn?1223239755 Hi ladies, I am on 1,000 mg of Metformin daily 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg at night. I was diagnosed with PCOS this summer and have been on the medication ever since. The Metformin has been inducing my period but I am still having trouble conceiving. Also, I track my ovulation and I'm not always ovulating even with my induced period. I have been told that clomid is a better option for women in my circumstances. I spoke to my doctor and she's not willing to prescribe it for me.

Avatar f tn I conceived 3 months after being diagnosed and put on metformin, but I was on clomid also for the last two months of the 3. I'm 34 weeks now, expecting Easter weekend. Good luck! It definitely helped that we timed intercourse with my ovulation according to my basal body temperature. If you're not tracking yours yet, I highly recommend it.
Avatar f tn Metformin commonly prescribed to women with PCOS because PCOS is linked to insulin resistence. Metformin helps regulate insulin levels and therefore correct the hormone imbalance that might be causing the weight gain and infertility. I am not sure Metformin will help you lose weight unless you are exercising and watching your diet, but regulating your insulin will help get your body on track to losing weight more effectively.
623922 tn?1223406991 t afford to go through another round of ivf right now my gyn prescribed 500mg of Metformin to help with ovulation. I know that I ovulate but she thinks the Metformin/Glucophage might help me. Has anyone been on Metformin that can tell me what to expect? Are there any success stories for people with a similar situation? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I had success with both Metformin and birth control. Metformin is working so far alone. I've been on Metformin for now 1 year and birth control for 2 years. I stopped my birth control in August and had a normal period 8/30-8/31. I am looking forward to starting my next cycle this weekend. It's nice to see so far my cycles have normaled out.
Avatar f tn ok thanks for the info. by the way i got my prescription and i take 2 500mg of metformin a day for thirty days. i haven't started taking them yet because i haven't started my AF. and if i dont start i have to take another med. called aygestin and my doc said do not take them together so im going to wait and see if i start this week. last month i needed aygestin to start my AF because i hadn't had it for 9 mnths, due to the PCOS.
Avatar n tn Another med docs use for PCOS is Metformin. Metformin is not FDA approved for PCOS but many docs will still use it with success. Metformin is a med for diabetics. However, many women with PCOS have insulin problems, which Metformin can help with.
Avatar f tn I want to point out that Metformin does not help with ovulation. It will really only help with making your cycle regular. I do not know why everybody keeps on insisting that Metformin will make you ovulate. Even my doctor advised me that he will not help on ovulation but only to make your cycles regular and with weight loss if you need.

Avatar f tn I have a few questions, I have been diagnosed with PCOS, and my husband and I are trying for our first child, I started taking Clomid 50mg and had no ovulation, so my doctor gave me a off brand of Provera to induce my period since I don't get them regularly, took that for 7 days, and two days later I started my period, now I'm taking 100 mg Clomid and started taking that on day 5 of my period which I should only have a couple more days left before stopping my period, my question is, when
