1907238 tn?1340711313 i was on metformin for almost year and clomid for 6 months only conceived once and ended up with MC. also if you are over weight they give metformin to help you reduce weight as well especially in PCOS. PCOS is never shown in blood test you need a good scan... :) best of luck anyway... hope it works for you....
Avatar f tn I also read that metformin reduces the risk of miscarriage, but my dr considered to take me off of it. I've been taking it for about 2 years before that. I am tomorrow week 38 and the baby is healthy, so it probably depends on everybody's special case whether to keep taking it throughout the pregnancy or not. I have been more closely monitored by my dr from the beginning of the pregnancy. It's best to let the dr decide.
1512722 tn?1313697879 Hey ladies i just started Metformin today! can i get some stories of bfps using it? or just you experience on it?

Avatar f tn Metformin may lower the risk of miscarriage or gestational diabetes in women with PCOS, but this has not yet been confirmed by research. Metformin is probably safe to take while you are pregnant. But because metformin is only FDA-approved for the treatment of diabetes, you should talk with your doctor about the use of this medicine for reducing your risk for miscarriage or treating PCOS symptoms. Side Effects The most common side effects of metformin are: Nausea.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Metformin for a couple years now because my doctor said I was pre-diabetic. I had my first OB appointment yesterday, and he advised me to stop taking the Metformin, since I wasn't diabetic. Everything I have read on the issue says that taking Metformin while you are pregnant can help with early miscarriage, gestational diabetes, and a whole list of other problems that could possibly arise. I could really use a second opinion! Thanks!
Avatar m tn No, the rate decrease if your taking metformin. I also have PCOS and I had a miscarriage in October..every since then I haven't had a period or ovulate on my own so my doctor put me on provera, metformin, and letrozole(femara) to get pregnant but the metformin alone will help you NOT to have a miscarriage...good luck to you sweetie. I think you should ask your doctor about taking metformin, it corrects PCOS also...
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been on metformin for a year and as soon as I told my doctor I was pregnant, he stopped my prescription for it although I've heard it might increase miscarriage chnaces there is no proof.
Avatar f tn It helps regulate menstrual cycles, start ovulation, and lower the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS. Metformin can also help in regularizing menstrual cycles and starting ovulation in about 40-45% of women with PCOS.It may be more effective when taken with Clomiphene .Do consult your gynecologist for more queries. Please keep me posted. Best regards!
1000796 tn?1250093019 On the times you got pregnant, were you still taking Metformin? It is known that women with PCOS who take Metformin up until the 20th week reduces the chances of miscarriage. Have you spoken to your doctor about why you keep having a miscarrige?
Avatar f tn The cycle only lasted 22days I bleed for 4 days which is the norm for me. I am currently on cd25 waiting for AF. I was wondering has metformin regulated you gals cycle and was it consistent? You know 30, 32, 34 day cycles. If you laedies could tell me your experiences on metformin that would be great. How long did you experience the side effects? I ate fruit yesterday and it went right through me. I thought you shouldn't eat greasy food with it.
594189 tn?1386916607 So I have been trying to get pregnant since my last miscarriage 04/07, then I stopped having AF for awhile after that, 09/08 they told me I have PCOS and put me on metformin, I weighted 377 than, now I just found out I'm pregnant and weigh 323 and still on metformin but all my blood work is looking great, Just wanted to give others with PCOS some hope. My friend also has PCOS and did the same thing as I did and she now has twin 3 month olds.
688022 tn?1275944889 t already they can see why you are having so many miscarriages and do things to try and prevent them. Clomid will not prevent miscarriage it only helps you ovulate. Also ask about Metformin for the pcos its a common drug the the RE will put you on.
Avatar f tn I been diganosed with pcos, me and my partner been trying for baby and twice i had a miscarriage, now they gven me metformin, just woundered how long the metformin takes to bring my periods back so i get one every month?
594189 tn?1386916607 I'm only on my 5 cycle of metformin, it had fixed my insulin resistance. my blood sugar is lower too and I ovulate. My doctor is sure it is just a matter of time before I get pregnant on my own again.
415687 tn?1228746275 i have been ttc for over 2 years with PCOS and i just found out i was pregnant!!!! there is hope! for me metformin and clomid 150 mg produced great follicles and ovulation was triggered by ovidrel. i did 6 cycles of that with only 1 pregnancy that sadly ended in miscarriage. my first cycle of gonal f injections and ovidrel trigger with iui was not successful. and then finally--- this cycle i did injections of gonal f for 9 days and then triggered with ovidrel and had iui on cd17.
Avatar f tn Hi. I can't say for sure that losing the weight will make you respond better to the meds, but losing weight with PCOS is a good thing since most doctors believe that fertility will be increased with weight loss. I lost weight and got pregnant after taking metformin sporadically (side effects were awful). I wasn't even trying to get pregnant then. Unfortunately, that pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage.
Avatar f tn t have kids and nor would I be a good candidate for fertility treatments, but, I had a healthy baby girl in July 2013 (prior to pregnancy was taking metformin For 1 year) and by May 2014 I was naturally pregnant (after baby #1 I was no longer insulin resistant so I hadn't taken metformin) again with a baby who's doing splendid.
847330 tn?1238713603 I don't know why my other post wasn't posted. Anyway I am knew to this forum. I wanted to know if anyone knows which process is better for women with PCOS? IVF with Clomid or Femiera Or/ IUI and transfering two eggs or three for a women almost 29ys old. My husband and i don't want to start too late because we want 5kids and also my parents had children in their 40's and they said it's better to start ealier. We had a miscarriage.
Avatar f tn I am on metformin which helps to reduce miscarriage rate as it controls insulin levels. My first three pregnancies ended in miscarriage- 4 th one started metformin and finally had a gorgeous little girl( although she was premature probably from all the miscarriages). This time on metformin again , vitamin d( we pcos women tend to have low vitamin d), progesterone, fish oil, folic acid 5 mg and prenatals. Also doing acupuncture once a week, anyone on metformin?
Avatar f tn in 2012 I found out I was pregnant after taking metformin for a couple of years. My doctor told me to stop taking the medication and within two weeks I miscarried. I later found out off my fetility Dr that metformin reduces the risk of miscarriage. This January I started metformin again, one week in I had a very strange period with no sypmtoms which lasted a full week it's only been 12 days since that one finished and Iv got another period, again with no sypmtoms.
2193012 tn?1343046121 hi Kani i take metformin 500mg x2 three times a day for the last 15 years, what do you want to know best wishes deb
Avatar m tn My doctor put me on Metformin. And I have been taking it for 3 months. My period is couple days overdue now. Not to be disappointed again, I have not taken a pregnancy test yet. I am wondering, if I do get pregnant this time, should I stop taking Metformin. Is it safte to take Metformin after pregnant? Will it cause any harm to baby? Thank you very much!
Avatar n tn Hi there, me and my husband are trying to conceive for 3yrs, i have PCOS, my ob recomend me to take metformin for 1 month, is this gud? Am i going to be pregnant with that metformin? For how oong i would wait for the reault? Anyone knows about this, help!
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old and have been on Metformin since I was 17 for treatment of PCOS. The side effects when you first take the medication isn't to pleasant. At least wasn't for me. I was sick a lot with diarrhea and nausea. But this will go away after about two weeks on the medication. I too got told to loose a few pounds and I would probably get pregnant rather easily. I weighed almost 400 pounds at the start of seeing this doctor. I now weight 328.8 with her encouragement and dieting.
Avatar f tn My doubt is, i heard that generally after delivery, PCOS reduces. is it the same case with Miscarriage? is there any chance for me to have regular periods from now on as i want to avoid clomid? In case of either regular/irregular periods how much time do you think it will take for me to get healthy pregnancy? How can i assure that i can avoid any miscarriages in future and is it that my miscarriage is due to PCOS? And i am hearing a lot about Metformin.
Avatar f tn if you are not on metformin you have a increased chance of miscarriage. As for age 24 is still young. your eggs don't decrease in quality until your 30-35. Are you currently ttc? Have you had any initial tests done?
Avatar f tn Hi I have been diagnosed with pcos and have been on metformin for just over 2 mouths and have been on clomid. Now 4 weeks pregnant I am not sure I should proceed with metformin. I have an appointment with my doctor in another week so I just want some advise. I read on Internet it could help lowering the risk of miscarriage.
