950954 tn?1271210887 However, the most recent studies show that women with PCOS do better with taking fertility medication called Clomid then with Metformin alone and so it may be better for you to take Metformin and Clomid. Most people start with just the Clomid pill and try this for about 3 to 6 total cycles before moving on to IVF. I suggest seeing a fertility specialist called a Reproductive Endocriniology and Infertility specialist if you have not done so already.
Avatar f tn Hello, Most women with PCOS don't ovulate and thus cannot become pregnant. So the first treatment option for infertility is usually the administration of drugs to induce ovulation like Clomid. Secondly Glucophage or Metformin is an insulin-sensitizing agent that is sometimes used in conjunction with Clomid. Other than that, Injectable HCG, Hmg, FSH, GnRH and assisted reproduction like IUI, IVF, GIFT AND ICSI may also be used.
Avatar n tn I just started Metformin 750mg for 1 week and 1500mg after that..
Avatar f tn Then she(doc 2) gave me Clomid and metformin and Duphoston(not sure of spelling) for cycle that month. I have had regular periods this year. today is my Cd 20. I went to the doc again last friday. She then asked me to double my dose of Metformin from 500g/day to 1000g/day. Along with duphoston which is just 10mg daily. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Really desperate on TTC and many a times i just loose confidence and hope. Then again I get a sense of positive feel. Gosh!
4433579 tn?1354551748 HI, With PCOS and absence of one tube, getting pregnant may be difficult or delayed. Hence you should consult a gynaecologist of an infertility expert for assistance. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Yes you can. I'm 23yr dx when I was 17 and am now finally pregnant with our first. Its more difficult and may require a mix and match of medication to see what works for you but no matter how long your ttc journey something will work for you. For me it was 5 rounds of clomid with a combo to metformin for the last 2 rounds. If you're like me and irregular and the clomid starts giving you regular AF take that as a huge step in the right direction.
608553 tn?1389502811 Upon research I noticed a lot of women take Metformin for infertility. I found online where I can buy it without a prescription, should I just buy it and take it? Who would I go see for infertility?
Avatar f tn GRACE0783, the first goal of treating infertility associated with PCOS is just to ovulate. this is best achieved by metformin, 2000 mg per day, and clomid, given for five days per month at the lowest dose which will induce ovulation. once you know you are ovulating, you should stay at the same dose of clomid until you conceive. if you go above the minimum dose of clomid needed for ovulation, fertility actually can decline, and rate of miscarriage can increase.
Avatar f tn Metformin helps regulate insulin levels and therefore correct the hormone imbalance that might be causing the weight gain and infertility. I am not sure Metformin will help you lose weight unless you are exercising and watching your diet, but regulating your insulin will help get your body on track to losing weight more effectively.
Avatar f tn s probably either for diabetes or for PCOS. I agree with Heather. While you gained substantial weight for you, being 63 kgs isn't even in the overweight category and probably shouldn't affect your fertility. However, if you are on metformin for PCOS, that will mess with your hormones and CAN affect your fertility.
1801238 tn?1316477007 sometimes even if you are healthy you are not ovulating for that you actually need infertility treatment. i was on metformin(500mg) and clomid(50mg). i was disappointed with results as i had it for 5 months. but with my 6th month on clomid i got pregnant however ended up with MC in december 11. after that i have been told to loose more weight. i am still on metformin but yet not given clomid again. so i ll be trying to loose more weight as i am only 5 kg extra for my weight.
Avatar f tn Hi! It depends on your age how soon I would begin to worry. If you are over 30, I would begin a work up after 6 months. If you are under 30, I don't tend to get to worried for about 12 months. After 12 months, the first thing I would recommend to my own patients to check is whether the woman is ovulating regularly--this can be done by charting periods and using ovulation predictors. 1626928 tn?1378850167 Treatment of endometriosis will depend on its severity. Consult an infertility expert. Do not get disheartened as treatment for infertility may take a few years to give results. Hope this helps.
256553 tn?1258883918 If you go to any website on infertility or pcos it will discuss the use of Metformin. I have been on Metformin for pcos and have been on it for one year. It has corrected my FSH & LH levels and helped me to lose 25 lbs without hardly trying. The Metformin sensitizes the cells to insulin therefore lowering the body's production of insulin, which also then reduces androgen production. Once this happens, ovulation often resumes. I beleive that this is particular with pcos conditions.
706214 tn?1244523049 If you are overweight even moderate weight loss and exercise will improve the symptoms of PCOS . because weigth gain makes the hormonal imbalance worse. although i hate medicines and their side effects metformin may help with weight loss aswell .
Avatar f tn Congratulations on trying to conceive! I was being treated with Metformin for my diabetes risk and irregular cycles. For women, Metformin can also make them super fertile (odd side effect) while regulating blood sugars. I'm not familiar with men and fertility issues, so I did a quick search and found this: Male Infertility & Diabetes DCS: What about diabetes and infertility as it is related to males? Does it cause fertility issues in men, too? Dr. Falcone: Yes.
Avatar f tn I have pcos and endemetriosis as well. The metformin definitely works. Have you tried seeing any infertility doctors? There are numerous specialized procedures that can aid in getting pregnant.
Avatar f tn Trying for baby #2 my daughter is 12 and my current BF and I want a baby this will be his first. Problem I have is I have PCOS and I barely get a cycle. Always been irregular but after my daughter I started going yrs at a time without a cycle. I started to change my diet and started taking prenatal vitamins, vitex and metformin. Has anyone tried vitex and if so has it helped at all? Is there any other natural ways to help infertility and beat PCOS?
707544 tn?1228949819 No Metformin is not for high prolactin level but for impaird glucose tolerance or hyperinsulinemia. You probably had your pituitary gland imaged with an MRI. Dostinex would help your hyperprolactinemia but would not necesarrily help you ovulate. You may have to take ovulation induction drugs like Clomiphene or injectable FSH like Bravelle to make an egg to ovulate. I presume that you are seeing a specialist in fertility called a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialist.
