Avatar n tn ) Me doctor prescribed metformin 500 mg 3 times a day. He told me that it will be easier for me to loose weight. Problem is that I am gaining weight, I cut my carbs and calories intake and walking for 1 hour 3 times a week, but still gaining weight. Does that mean metformin is not working for me ?
878888 tn?1319634044 I have 2 questions, If I take Metformin with evening meal and thyroid in am is there still a chance for interaction? Is there a good diet that works for people who have somewhat high blood sugar level but not at extremes that will help me lose weight. Sorry for the book, but am really concerned as I am a single mom with a 15 yr old still to raise and I must be able to keep working to support both of us.
Avatar n tn Have you been given any meds? Metformin is usually a first line medication and quite helpful for most. If you do take metformin make sure you also take a B12 supplement. Do get a home blood sugar monitor and monitor your fasting levels and also 2 hours post eating so you can see which foods / meals don't affect your sugars and which do.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed as being pre-diabetic after a fasting blood sugar of 106 and a HGA1C at 6.5. I have been treating this with diet alone for the past year and after losing 20 pounds I had reduced the HGA1C to 6.1 and fasting BS under 99. I began having symptoms of hypothyroidism and the doctor tested me. My TSH level was 4.5 and my anti-microsomal antibodies showed a level of 632. The doctor said I had Hashimotos Thyroiditis and put me on .50 of Levthyroxine.
5143114 tn?1364237535 Then this past month (March) she uped me to 7mg of femara (and still taking Metformin, too). My 21 day Progestrone levels for December was 2.87, January was 1.76, Feb was 7.87, and this last one was 9.82 She also did tested 4 other harmones on day 3 of my cycle, everything was normal, except the TSH which was .282, which she said was a little underactive. So now I have been referred to an Reproductive Endocrinologist. So, what is there to be expected?
878888 tn?1319634044 08 last test, But she put me on Metformin xr 500 for diabetes. I was wondering if anyone else takes this med along with levothyroxine and if it effects your thyroid management. I have gained 16 lbs back since January and want make sure I don't keep gaining. Ps. I work on my feet and walk about 9000 steps a day, plus have changed my diet and am counting carbs.
Avatar n tn The doctor then put me on Metformin. I have been on Metformin for almost a year now and my dose was increased from 500mg to 1000mg a day. I am have several dry skin, my hair keeps falling off, and diarrhea. But one thing I don't understand is that since I have been on Metformin for so long, it does keep sort of regulate my period every month. But my testosterone and triglycerides are still high. Now, I have to deal with this sort of kidney pain and back pain everyday.

Avatar n tn i have been on metformin for a year at 1500mg per day and still nothing. My biggest fear is maybe I should just give up on my dream of having a big family and just go with what i have now. How bad is your PCOS. maybe my doctor misdiagnosed me or something. Although i have been to 10 doctors and they all same thing but maybe there is something else wrong.
Avatar m tn Diet and exercise is critical with both hypothyroid and diabetes for good weight management/ weight loss. You can head across to the thyroid forum for some more info on making sure your levels are optimal. Your HA1C is not so high, so I'd guess they'd have started you on metformin. This drug often helps with weight loss. Regardless, you won't gain if you pay close attention to diet. Reduce the carbs, particularly anything processed and refined. Don't eat too much fruit.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid and PCOS. I am currently taking Metformin to try to get me ovulating and regulate my period and my thyroid meds. It still is not stopping I've been on the thyroid meds for 8months and metformin since Aug 8th. I am calling the doc tomorrow to tell her my husband and I have decided to wait on having anymore kids and give me something to stop my period. Has anyone had this issue and if so what stopped it.
Avatar f tn Congratulations, and thanks for sharing! Best wishes for a happy, healthy nine months!
1907238 tn?1340711313 i was on metformin for almost year and clomid for 6 months only conceived once and ended up with MC. also if you are over weight they give metformin to help you reduce weight as well especially in PCOS. PCOS is never shown in blood test you need a good scan... :) best of luck anyway... hope it works for you....

Avatar n tn have you been tested for those? For hypothyroid, you need to be tested for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. Monitoring blood sugar levels will help identify insulin resistance. Recommend that you get tested further. Often metformin is prescribed for PCOS; has your doctor mentioned that? metformin often helps people lose weight, because it improves insulin sensitivity. Cycling for 10 minutes/day is good, but probably not enough.
Avatar f tn ve been taking vitamin D for 2yrs, B12-2yrs, Fish oil-4yrs, magnesium 4yrs, Prenatal vitamins for 6yrs. (Also, Metformin for PCOS. I take magnesium to "treat" uterine fibroids) PCP prescribed cholesterol medicine. I told the Endo it is hurting my stomach (nonstop aching pain) he said "Then don't take it"...??? My cholesterol jumped to 295. Symptoms: I went from 180lbs to 225lbs within a year. I've lost so much hair I have bald spots.
Avatar f tn I have been experiencing most of the hypothyroid symptoms for quite awhile. Thyroid issues also run in my family. I had my primary Doctor run a free T4 and TSH, as well as the antibody tests. My numbers seem to fall under the normal ranges. My free T4 is 0.92, TSH 1.8, TPO 90 and Tg 0.06. I cannot seem to find any standard ranges for the antibodies. I am not sure if my levels are normal or not. I know I feel bad all the time, tired, anxious, depressed, erratic menstrual cycles, and headaches.
Avatar n tn I had an agioplasty with drug eluting stent (two stents were placed ) about 3 years back. I am a diabetic on metformin 1gm BD and hypothyroid with replacement therapy. For last 3 years since my Angioplasty i am on Plavix 75 mg, aspirin 81 mg ,simva statin 20 mg, and a beta blocker bisoprolol 5mg . Is it safe to continue with Plavix or should be discontinued?
Avatar n tn hey im the same way ihave diabetes caused from pcod , i have to wax my chin, upper lip, frequently and right before my period its like im growing a crop , im only telling u what i take for mine and it has helped i have the best christian doctor in the us , spirolactone twice daily for pcod, metformin for diabetes and oh what a difference it has made my periods went from 7 days to four and i feel better with metformin and my pms used to be terrible but its better.
Avatar n tn Hi, I dont think Metformin is the cause for your problem. I have used it for more than 3 months and did not have any problem during AF. I have PCOS and hence metformin was prescribed for insulin resistance. btw why were you taking metformin?
