Avatar f tn Hello, Hirsutism is usually caused by hormonal imbalance and in women PCOS is one of the leading causes of hirsutism. So please get an evaluation done for this cause. The methods of hair removal in hirsutism are shaving, chemical depilation by using depilatory creams, temporary epilation by plucking, tweezing, waxing and permanent epilation by electrolysis, thermolysis and laser hair removal. Apart from these there are some medicines available for treating hirsutism in PCOS.
Avatar f tn I know how you feel and how distressing this can be. I am in the UK and approx 18 months ago my dr prescribed a cream for me called Vaniqa. Its supposed to slow/decrease the rate of hair growth. I tried it for 6 months and did notice that the facial hair slowed down............. but to be honest I discontinued use of the cream. I've suffered Hirsutism for over 20 years and while my normal hair colouring if fair this unwelcome excess body hair is very dark.
Avatar f tn Hirsutism is usually caused by hormonal imbalance and in women PCOS is one of the leading causes of hirsutism and infertility. For this, Apart from these hair removal options, there are some medicines available for treating hirsutism in PCOS. These include oral contraceptives which contain estrogen and progesterone and suppress ovulation, Metformin, antiandrogens which cause androgen blockage( eg spironolactone, flutamide, cyproterone acetate), oral corticosteroids and Finasteride.
Avatar f tn It depends on your particular case as to how you will be treated. For instance, I take metformin and spironolactone. These two medications work by decreasing hormones call androgens. Decreasing these androgens will decrease the ovarian cysts, acne, and hirsutism. Metformin will decrease blood sugar as well. I have also just undergone surgery to remove cysts and had an ovarian drill to, as my doctor said, give my ovary a fresh start. I find out Monday if I will be put on birth control as well.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I would probably be on metformin for a while and chances are when I try to get pregnant I will still be on this until a few months into the pregnancy because with women who have pcos are greater risks for miscarriages.
Avatar n tn I had IVF 2 years ago to concieve my DS who is now 16 months old .. Ijust did my second FET on 12/3. I take metformin for my PCOS which helps me loose weight and with the cysts on my ovaries. YOu should definitely go to your OBGYN and if they diagnose you with PCOS you should go see an RE to help you concieve. There are some women who get put on metformin and their periods return .. That does not happen for me bc I have a severe case.

Avatar f tn ) My question specifically is, is there anything I can take for the hirsutism and to help with weight loss or insulin resistance? The more holistic approach, the better.
Avatar f tn I have a micro prolactinoma that has "returned" after 14 years, bringing with it diabetes. I had a child a year ago and that is when I began to have the eczema & allergies. Right now I am trying to wean my son (morning and bedtime comfort 'feedings"). I have a history of hirsutism, inflamed stomach (unknown cause), inflamed joints, weakness, forgetfulness, and feeling tired. My adrenal glands were tested and it turns out they work fine although I have low cortisol levels.
Avatar m tn We have been trying for 3 years still no luck. My doctor priscribed me metformin 3 times daily 1500mg and clomid. Although, i never took it properly. This year i promised myself that i will start taking my pills regulary. Ever since Jan i have taking it regulary. My periods won't stop. They were continuous for a whole month. Stopped for a week and now i am back on my periods. I have really bad back cramps. My periods are very heavy. Please tell me what i can do about this.

Avatar f tn Sounds like you have some time of hormone inbalance. You need to get some blood work done so you know why this started happening. Any change in diet? Increase/decrease in weight? Any other symptoms other then the hair?
Avatar f tn Ok, so my symptoms have been going on since I was 17 or so. For reference, I am now 23 and overall in pretty good health, aside from an IgA deficiency and fairly frequent pneumonia that comes with it (7 times in my life, never a cold or anything beforehand). It all started with these little red dots on my upper arms. My doctor believed they were petechiae. They do not blanch. Being young and stupid, I thought they were pigment until I realized I could scratch them off.
Avatar n tn But if there are excess body hair then hirsutism needs to be ruled out. Although hirsutism in not regularly found in males but it is not always so. Adrenal tumors and dysfunction are the commonest causes of hirsutism in males. Adrenocortical tumors are almost always malignant in patients who present with hirsutism. The other common cause is of Cushing’s syndrome. I suggest you to consult an endocrinologist in that case.
Avatar f tn but you and I both know it not happening....I started on Metformin for 12 mths...then Clomid and Metformin combined for 12 mths....Long time!! Finally started IVF over a year ago.....First time in I developed Hyper Stimulated Syndrome (because of the PCO)...They couldn't perform a ET due to the dangers to my health.....however they did retrieve 27 Eggs......however only 6 fertisilised and only 5 froze. That's 5 chances at a pregnancy!!!

20890199 tn?1573389176 Hi, i'm looking for advice on how to treat pcos, but the thing is i'm not sure if i have it. I have Hirsutism but no other symptom. I have never taken the pill either. So i'm not sure what i have. Every video online states you must have three symptoms to confirm that it is pcos. I'm so confused.
Avatar n tn I would also feel more beautiful and confident. So my doctor gave a prescription for Vaniqa 13.9%, Metformin 850 mg, and Spironolactone 25 mg. I have an appointment in 3 weeks to see him again for more blood work so he can determine if the drugs are of any benefit. My main concern with the two latter drugs is that they are used in patients who have been diagnosed for PCOS. Is that correct? Why would my doctor prescribe those if I only have higher levels of testosterone?
Avatar m tn Hello, Too thick beard can be due to genetic causes and is considered normal. Other cause can be hirsutism. Hirsutism can be due to abnormally high levels of male hormones (called androgens) like in Cushing’s syndrome, tumour or overactivity of the pituitary gland, the adrenal gland and medicines like hormones and anabolic steroids.
