Avatar f tn has any1 tried metformin does it really help weight loss and stop excess facial hair?
Avatar m tn i was on metformin 2000mg to restore my period, help slow down the facial hair growth, and to help maintain my weight. It worked. With the metformin, my facial hair did not stop. It slows the rate of new growth so you're stuck with what you have but will grow fewer "new" hairs. My period came back although it wasn't terribly regular. I did see it every one to two months. Without metformin i would get it maybe once in 6months+ and the weight...
Avatar f tn Hi Tracy, what my RE told me is that because of our PCOS we become insulin resistant.. & being IR causes all those lovely side effects (weight gain, anovulation, facial hair) so in order to control the symptoms you need to control your insulin levels.. 1. By taking your metformin, 2. Controling what you eat (no bad carbs or sugar) and when you do this, it helps lessen the side effects of metformin & 3. Exercise! Once you start doing those 3 I promise you start feeling better...
Avatar n tn i usually get it twice a year and i dont have insurance to get my hormone levels tested right now and i was wondering if it was pcos do i have to have facial hair or weight gain?
Avatar f tn But have never conceived with any other partners in the past. Went to the dr. They say i have symptoms of pcos (facial hair and acne) they tested me and my DHEAS LEVEL and TESTOSTERONE were kinda high but all my other hormones were fine. So they started me on SPRINTEC N SPIRONPROLACTONE and i was wondering will this help or do i need to try METFORMIN OR CLOMID.... i also have a cyst on my right ovary. What is the next step for me.

Avatar n tn I took metformin for 30 days but I had severe diahrrea and had to stop taking it. I was hoping that maybe there was something else I can take.
Avatar f tn Hi! I was diagnosed maybe 2-3 months ago & it has completely changed my life! I was much like you, but I wasn't really trying to get pregnant. I had no period at all. Maybe once a year. Also, I had the hardest time losing weight. I have had facial hair & a skin condition called hidradenitis suppurativa. After being diagnosed w/ pcos & insulin resistance, they put me on spironolactone, metformin, and birth control.

6758585 tn?1390314001 I have alot of facial hair, ance,a deep voice and alot of testosterone. Is it ok too ask my gyno for some hormome pills or birth control pills?
Avatar f tn I did not have a period for 2 years and I got a lot of facial hair. I finally went to an endocronologist and found out that I had a tumor on my ovary. It was causing my hormone levels to be wrong. I had way too much testosterone in my system. I had my ovary removed and I have had a regular period since. That was 10 years ago. I was 17. I still have the facial hair. I was told that once the hair folical is activated, it does not go away. I would have to get laser hair removal done.
Avatar f tn m getting my period and can skip if I need to, also for contraceptive) they all were overweight, bad acne and grow facial hair and their arm hair is coarser and darker too. But other than that the condition doesn't affect them in any way they are still keen to have kids because you still can, I never knew how common it really was, trust me it really is! So many people have it and they have kids! So you don't need to worry too much about it.
1296650 tn?1314365206 I have PCOS and I am 16 weeks pregnant I also didn't have acne or facial hair and for sure not over weight same with my cousin. She tried for years w fertility treatment with no luck, I tried for 34 months and am finally pregnant. I am 27 years old. It is possible to get pregnant many women do! The winning combo for me was 50mg Clomid, ovadriel injection to make me ovulate and back to back IUI 12hrs after ovadriel :). Good luck!
1326513 tn?1276518001 In an appointment with my psychiatrist this morning, she determined that i do have PCOS. From the facial hair, to the acne, to the need for birth control just to keep me somewhat regulated - as well as keeping my hormones regulated. But the last two years my obgyn has seen me, she has said my hormones were fine. Currently i suffer greatly from anxiety and panic, as well as clinical depression. Im on ativn .5mg, pristiq 100mg, seroquel 150 mg and toropal xl 50 mg.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering from increased body/facial hair since I was 15. It is pretty common in Mediterranean cultures for females to have more hair than females of other cultures. On some days, I can deal with the fact that I have Hirsutism, on other days, I feel really depressed and alone. A few weeks ago I gathered the courage to go to my PCP and tell him about my condition. He automatically sent me to the lab for blood work. He said the tests would be extensive.
Avatar f tn see if your doctor and ask if metformin would be of any use to you, i was put on it for my facial hair even though i'm not diabetic ...
Avatar f tn hello, some of have different symptoms but with me i had high blood pressure, weight gain around my mid section, no periods, wasnt ovulating, facial hair.
Avatar f tn I am in the UK and approx 18 months ago my dr prescribed a cream for me called Vaniqa. Its supposed to slow/decrease the rate of hair growth. I tried it for 6 months and did notice that the facial hair slowed down............. but to be honest I discontinued use of the cream. I've suffered Hirsutism for over 20 years and while my normal hair colouring if fair this unwelcome excess body hair is very dark.
Avatar n tn Just wondering if this is common in woman with PCOS. I have managable facial hair, bit more than usual I guess but thanks to whoever invented hair removal creams ! I don't have acne problems.. I have 30 cysts on each side is it extremely hard to get pregnant with PCOS??? One more question. I also have hyperhydrosis mainly of my hands is this linked with PCOS ? AND is it linked with diabetes??
Avatar f tn I just want to comment on the facial hair problem as I also had this for a long time and I do NOT have PCOS: I've had this issue for 15 years, I believe it got terrible when I was more stressed. I did electrolysis for a long time until recently, when less hair would grow. But it still did, which was annoying. After I found out about being hypo, my new thyroid doctor recommended taking Progesterone for 2 weeks per month... And voila! No more facial hair after the 3rd month! Amazing.
608553 tn?1389502811 I told the clinic I STRONGLY feel like I suffer from PCOS and they asked me why. I explained how I have EVERY symptom of it... Infertility, excessive facial/chest hair, etc. and they made me an appointment for a sonogram but then cancelled it and keep giving me the run around. I think it could be that I don't have health insurance. Anyway, I've registered in a PCOS website where I get news letters because I feel THAT strongly about it!
Avatar m tn I'm 23 and on birth control (Loestrin 24). Normally my periods are somewhat regular, but really light and short. Last month I didn't have one, but I did have some slight spotting before my period was supposed to come. This month my period also skipped. I have no other symptoms of PCOS except some acne on my chin (but occasional breakouts are not uncommon for me, I have oily skin, plus an expired skin product and eating wheat with my allergy may have caused this).
Avatar f tn On my stomache, upper lip, back, legs, arm, butt, and even a little facial hair. I really wanna be active for high school and play sports,go to parties, and date but I'm just so uncomfortable with myself. I can't have a regular high school life because of this and I can't talk to my parents because they never listen to me. I am a girl with plans for the future and I'm so scared that the future isn't gonna work out for me. Please I'm begging you somebody help me out.
