Well I was diag with PCOS when I was 16. Was on Metformin for a while, but then had Gastric Bypass surgery..lost alot of weight...275+. I stop taking metformin because my docs were just not telling me to take it anymore. Well now I am married and TTC. Last year I got prego all by myself. Unfor. I m/c at 7 months. Now, I am eating healthy, walking on long walk with my dogs, and taking CARE OF MYSELF! I am on Metformin 500 mg BID(twice a day).

i was on metformin for almost year and clomid for 6 months only conceived once and ended up with MC. also if you are over weight they give metformin to help you reduce weight as well especially in PCOS. PCOS is never shown in blood test you need a good scan... :) best of luck anyway... hope it works for you....

Hi, I dont think Metformin is the cause for your problem. I have used it for more than 3 months and did not have any problem during AF. I have PCOS and hence metformin was prescribed for insulin resistance. btw why were you taking metformin?

I have been taking Metformn for over 3 years for my PCOS and never had an issue with kidney pain. I actually have had no problems at all taking it, I lost 50 lbs on it and stopped making cysts. my question to you is how much were you taking a day?

Is Lantus and Metformin ok to take or is the Metformin harmful to my liver? I know several with Hep-c who take Metformin.

Hi there. I am about to start metformin for my PCOS next week at the start of my new cycle. Will this help me to ovulate and help improve my chances of conceiving? We are trying for baby number two, this will be our ninth month. I was put on clomid 50mg to help us conceive our first baby two years ago. My transvaginal sonogram showed i have PCOS on my left ovary, but my right ovary was clear. I also have a tilted uterus. Would this hinder our chances of conceiving?

Metformin is a glucose lowering drug, phentermine is for weight loss and dicyclomine is for irritable bowel. You need to ask this doctor if he has run a glucose test on you and if he has determined that you are diabetic. I am a diabetic and I take metformin...if you are NOT a diabetic, ask the doctor why he has put you on metformin!! Metformin will lower your blood sugar and you need to be informed about possible hypoglycemic events...call your doctor now! Please let us know what he says...

One side effect of Metformin is weakness. Also, taking Metformin in quarters is below the recommended dose and is so minimal, I highly doubt it has any affect on helping to lower your glucose [blood sugar] level.

m having with my treatment. I have been diagnosed with PCOS for more then 5 years now. Originally I started on the regular Metformin but due to gastritis could not continue. While I was on it I lost weight my monthly cycle was regular. Some time later my symptoms re-occurred. I began taking Metformin XR (slow release) and suffered no side effects. However, my symptoms are getting worse and the medication is not helping. I am on a low fat low carb diet and get regular exercise daily.

The cycle only lasted 22days I bleed for 4 days which is the norm for me. I am currently on cd25 waiting for AF. I was wondering has metformin regulated you gals cycle and was it consistent? Thank you so much for posting that. I know there are a lot of excellent "diets" out there; often people start on them and DO lose weight. The problem is that the diets are not "realistic", therefore, most people can't stick with them over the long haul, so they gain back the weight they lost, often adding even more than they started with.

I have been on Metformin for many years now (for fertility reasons). I think its the best. I am on my 6th IVF (and I hope it works this time!). One of my fertility doctors took me off metformin for 3 of my ivf tries and the results were much much worse. From everything I have read, it seems that metformin is a safe medication and you can stay on it all through your pregnancy (unless you have liver issues).

My doctor suggests now to up the Clomid dose to 150mg and to take Metformin as well. I thought that Metformin was indicated for patients with insulin resistance (which is not my case), is this true or are there potential benefits of taking Clomid + Metformin even not being insulin resistant? Also, at which point will a person be considered Clomid resistant?

I also have pcos and im not diabetic and my doc but me on metformin for 6 mths to get to ovulate before i got prego and now im 16 wks 5 days. but i also had a cousin that took clomid for 6 mths and she didnt get prego until she stopped trying with clomid. Just give it time it will happen when you least expect it.

My post breakfast reading is always higher (160-180) while my post lunch reading is 110-130. Does it mean Metformin takes time to show effect and I should reshedule my intqake of Metformin?

I went to the doctor after breaking out in terrible acne and gaining an excessive amount of weight (weight that no amount of gym time could get rid of). My doctor put me on Metformin 500mg twice a day. I was on the medication for 6 months (acne had cleared and cycles were regular and lost about 15lbs), when the medication stopped working. I started missing my periods again and the weight started creeping up. I went back to the doctor and they upped my metformin to 1000mg twice a day.

Hello, After 2yrs of trying we finally got pregnant with the use of clomid. I have pcos and have been on metformin for like 4yrs which never really didn't anything for me in getting my periods or anything. But my primary said it is important to be on it to prevent miscarriages. Is this true? because my 1st ob said if its not working for you than dont take it. But when my primary told me this i started back on it.
