Metformin and yasmin together

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin and yasmin together

glucophage

Avatar n tn i was having exactly the same problem until my doc put me on yasmin and metformin. it worked wonders. Try to exercise atleast 30min per day, it will be of great help. i took yasmin for nearly one year then stopped(my periods were regular while taking yasmin), got pregnant after 2months of stopping yasmin, but unfortunately it was ectopic and so i lost it. i would advice you to be careful once you stop yasmin. Also i was taking caltrate(vitaminD+calcium) tablets once a day.
Avatar n tn What is metformin? I have PCOS, was told in march. My doctor wants me to lose weight and if this medicne helps with that, i will talk to her about taking it.
Avatar f tn Metformin and some type of birth control pill are normally the treatments of pcos. I've had pcos since (and maybe longer) 2007 and have been on metformin 500mg 2x since Jan of this year, plus I'm on Yasmin bc pills. Yasmin, like luisa24 said is the best form of bc pills for pcos. It also helps great if you suffer from mild acne breakouts. To answer your question about the side affects after you stopped treatment, well that i cannot answer.
Avatar n tn I'm sorry I don't know how the metformin and birth control do together but I also have PCOS and am on metformin. I haven't been on the metformin too long yet but I definitely think it helps. I have found that with PCOS though the only way I have been able to lose any weight is in cutting carbs. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
864198 tn?1239188205 Why were you on 2 types of birth control pills? Thats not really healthy. I only take Yasmin and Metformin and it works. Now, if my cycles are regular thats another story. I wont know that until I stop my bc pills (which I dont plan too until the end of this year).
Avatar f tn Well I too have pcos and I take metformin 500mg 2x and yasmin bc pills. I've been on the bc pills for close to 2 years and metformin i started in september 2008 (taking them everyday). Metformin is the only known drug that is given out to pcos sufferers.
193609 tn?1292180293 Your doctor didnt give you anything to jump start ur period? Or place u on bc pills? I take metformin 500mg 2x and yasmin bc pills. I hope by end of this year i will discontinue bc pills and ttc next yr.
587778 tn?1261397118 Well I'm on both side of the fences now. I was taking birth control (yasmin) along with Metformin. I took bc for a little over a year on it's own and had no problems. Then in September 2008 I started Metformin 500mg 1x a day along with my bcp. In Jan 2009 I upped the dose of Metformin to 2x a day per my doctor. I stopped my bcp in August 2009 and now am just taking Metormin 500mg 2x a day. So far it seems to be working on it's own.
Avatar n tn I also am on Yasmin birth control due to menstrual issues, I am on Metformin due to insulin issues. I am wondering when the Armour will help and will it help be able to come off the two other medications. I do have adrenal problems and take Adrenogen, DHEA, fish oils and vitamin D for a vitamin D deficiency. I was told that Armour can help with alot of this, is that true?
Avatar f tn I have PCOS and I am taking 1500mg of metformin since April 09. In may I started mid cycle spotting but know I have abnormal bleeding every 2 weeks. My cycle is suppose to be 30-33 days but now it is 16-19 days. I went to the doc and she said it was just hormones well it's very weird. I'm not ovulating and now I'm bleeding twice a month. ***** to be me right now. My RE wants me to have a lap to be checked for endo. Have any of you guys experienced this?
Avatar f tn I take Yasmin birth control and metformin. The birth control helps to keep my periods on track so I have one each month, and the metformin helps with losing weight. Please talk with your doctor and parents so you can start getting treated.
652349 tn?1235945837 Hello, The breast tenderness and shoulder pain that you are having is a common side effect with yasmin use.Oral contraceptives can cause blood clots which can lead to blockage of any artery and hence pain and other symptoms like numbness and parasthesia and ischemic changes. Secondly,PCOS not only increases chances of heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer of the lining of the womb (known as endometrial cancer),but it can cause breast tenderness also.
Avatar f tn so I got it investigated and got the PCOS dx. I was on metformin while I was trying to get pregnant and it didnt seem to have much of an effect. I even tried clomid to get me to ovulate and that didn't do anything.. so we ended up going to IVF. It's probably not a big deal what kind of BC I use.. since I was on all kinds of other stuff before knowing I had PCOS w/o any problems. Just now that I know what the problem is..
Avatar f tn I took it in the morning all days at the same time, not using any antibiotics, just metformin and Pentoprezol for gastritis along. 6th day (7th morning almost) had repeated intercourse but he didnt ejaculate inside (no condom). rest all days to follow, had a couple of instances of complete unprotected intercourse. I have now completed 21 days pack, today being the first free day. I had mild nausea only on the pill, not happening today.
Avatar n tn I currently taken 1500 mg of Metformin and was on birth control. I started on Loestrin FE and I found I would get double periods sort of. I would getting spotting for 3 days in week two but then my regualr period the last week. My doctor told me if it continued into month three call him. Well, it continued so he put me on Zovia 35 I think was the name.
1447404 tn?1284604228 Sleepiness is not a side affect of metformin. And also, not every woman who has PCOS has diabetes. As far has the birth control, it did lighten my period and made it shorter as well. I never had breakthrough bleeding with it. My body reacts to medications very well...I've never had any bad side affects from anything I took.
Avatar f tn I am 19 and I have the same problem i was on yasmin and blood pressure went high stopped b.c. all together for around 8 months recently got back on it about 3months ago and my blood pressure is around 156/130...I am wondering the same thing perhaps is there any bc that will not make blood pressure high???
Avatar n tn yes, i have also PCOS and im thin. im taking metformin now and for the last 3 months i had yasmin to help regulate also my cycle. my problem now is that i easily get hungry. my stomach always craves for food. is this really the effects of metformin?
Avatar f tn Any reason why your doctor didn't put you on meds? I take metformin and yasmin birth control to regulate my period. You have to go back to your doctor for treatment. You cannot let pcos go untreated.
957923 tn?1246732553 I take Inderal LA 120mg 1x a day and I also take bcp (Yasmin) and Metformin 500mg 2x for weight loss. My doctor knew I was on Inderal LA and said it was fine. Talk to your doctor about getting on Metformin. It works great and with that I've lost 60 + lbs with it. I have all the symptoms that you have too, except I don't have high blood pressure. I wouldn't consider the lap band surgery (only as a last resort).
Avatar f tn The meds I know of are metformin (to help with weight loss and insuline resistance) and bc pills to regulate ur period. To help pcos, you most likley need to lose weight. I have lost 40lbs since September being on metfomin and bc pills (yasmin). I dont know if my cycles are regular yet, because of the bc pills. But my doctor told me loding just 5 or 10% of your weight will help improve pcos.
Avatar f tn I have a serious question. I have PCOS and have been on clomid, femara, metformin etc. now my doctor wants to put me on birth control, which what ever, nothing else has worked why not try it again. But my concern is the type of birth control that it is. YAZ!!! I have done very little research about it but what I have found shows that there are more people out there that have negative things to say about it.
Avatar f tn heyyy i've been taking yaz for about a month now (almost done with the white pills) and my period started monday.. since then i have had serious cramps!!! i also have PCOS and i'm taking Metformin, which is causing alot of diareah and cramping and nausia.. so right now this period is sheer hellish... from nausia, indegestion, lack of appitite, diareah, and a period from hell.. this week has been the worst yet :'( hope life is going better for you sister!!!
Avatar m tn I've been taking Topamax 50mg-100mg daily and I have been also taking Yasmin. The two were told to me to be ineffective when used together, so I've been using a back up method of condoms. I'm unhappy with this so my OBGYN switched me to Zovia, which I do not like. My question is, could YAz and Topamax at 50-100mg, be taken together?
774980 tn?1236777847 maybe its because i stop taking metformin for two months but for the last 3months i took yasmin pills. i stop metformin bec im so confused about it. as far as i knw that its the medicine of my mother in law whos diabetic. but i reli thanks and praise God for this website. i learned many things from u and im enlightened now. another thing is that, i have anterior intramural myoma nodule. anyone who knows about this kindly share ur ideas.
801413 tn?1333539276 Started Yasmin bc July 2007 and started metformin in September 2008. I am overweight and have lost 55 lbs since 9/14/08. I wont be TTC until next year (I want to be under 200 lbs before trying). My doctor is hoping the more weight I lose, the better of trying for a baby and less complications. Good luck to all.
Avatar n tn But I thought I would ask, is anyone that has PCOS symptoms (high testosterone, insulin resistance) and on BCP on any other BCP besides Yasmin, and does it control PCOS symptoms? Have you seen any side effects?
Avatar f tn The sooner she realizes that unfortunately this is the hand we were dealt, the better. The medicine I take is metformin and spironolactone. Hope this helps a little?
Avatar f tn Shortly after the abortion I found out I have polycystic ovaries and had been put on Yasmin birth control pills. I took the pill for two cycles and stopped. Since I stopped I have been ttc and had cycles ranging from 28-29 days. I know that some women "bleed" and it seems like a "period" but isn't a "period" and it’s called anovulatory bleeding. My question is can you have a normal Period and still have a Ovulation problem?
1266083 tn?1358564062 Okay, here's the deal. I started having the "montly visit" when I was 11. For 2 years, it was irregular and when I was 13, it just STOPPED all together. I had no period for about 3 years when a doctor FINALLY diagnosed me with PCOS at the age of 16, and did a "vaginal probe" (I hate the sound of that word, haha) and found "hundreds of little cysts" on my ovaries. Well, I was then put on Yasmin and Glucophage.
