Recently i have been diagnosed with pcos, with low red blood cells and vitamin D deficiency

Test for vitamin B12 deficiency. To add, diabetes drug metformin is a known cause of vitamin B12 deficiency. Optimal B12 serum is above 800pg/mL or 600pmol/L. If your B12 levels are under this, then sublingual B12 is highly recommended.

There is a mention that metformin can cause Vit B12 deficiency. Also if you take an estrogen supplement it can increase your risk for hypoglycemia. There is a long list of herbs that interact with metformin, however, so choose a prenatal vitamin that does not have herbs. I would type it out but it is a pretty long list LOL.

Does anyone know what causes severe B12 deficiency and vitamin d deficiency? I am starting 50,000 IU tomorrow (twice a week) and I will start the B 12 shots (twice a week) for probably the rest of my life. I have been really sick and have some other symptoms that I have had a lot of trouble addressing. i have an unexplained fever and Blood Pressure that goes really high(180/120) and then drops really low (90/50).

Is it common for those with ms to have abnormally low levels of vitamin b12? I read that a vitamin b12 deficiency could mimic symptoms of ms but that doesn't explain remissions. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Before four years I was severe Vit. D and Vit. B12 deficiency. Just two months before I have done root canal. From that I have severe back pain, sometimes burning sensation on backside, headache, feeling weakness, dipressed mood, not concentrating on work, anxiety. I have done blood test. My vit. D is 60ng/ml, vit. B12 680pg/ml. My CBC, HB, LFT, KFT, cholesterol is normal. Orthopedic Dr prescribed 4 tab. of vit D suggest to take one table after three weeks. I have also consulted to Neurologist.

Recent blood test shows vit. D 111 ng/ml and Vit B12 is 1074 pg/ml (ref. Range 211-911). May I have elevated vit. D and Vit B12. How to bring to normal level.

Then I went for a Vitamin B12 test and diagnosed with 59 points of Vitamin B12. Then started B12 injections and using them from last 2 months. Now when I retested them, everything is looking good (D3: - 43, B12: - >1400, Thyroid: - Normal range). Still I am facing same weakness and fatigue. Tingling sensation in hands and legs. I did a research and found that, persons who are using acid suppressing tablets from long time will obviously have B12 defficiency.

well as far as I know your shots and B12 intake will stop the progres of degradation. Anemia and neuropathy in B12 deficiency dont come both everytime. Im glad you dont have anemia. And about the vit D and relation to neurpathy I can say much, sorry.

Been a while, while would just like to know could hep c or the treatment of hep c cause the vitamin B12 deficiency. I have been on folate tabs and vitamin B12 injections for approximatly 12 months now with no explanation given apart from my body has stopped making Intrinsic factor. just a side line my treatment was put off in august, due to start this wedenesday.

the other says that if my body is not absorbing B12, taking a vitamin will not help and I will require B12 injections. Is this a common deficiency for women?

Hello~Yes, having a B12 deficiency can cause a lot of the symptoms you mentioned. I have had B12 shots, and the results were amazing, I felt full of energy, and my depression lifted as well. B12 is a very important vitamin, but, I would like to add that it should be taken in conjunction wit Folic acid and the other B vitamins, they all work synergistically, and it is best to have the entire "team" working together.
