Avatar m tn hi i am neethu,my mom has type 2 diabetes since 1 yr and age is 43 yrs, First time we consulted 1 doctor he gave some tablets but my moms sugar level was around 220-230 range and later due to his selfish nature to gain more money has suggested insulin intake at earlier stage itself which was not needed and was harmfull, so we left that doctor and consulted other doctor and her BP is always at normal range only, empty stomach sugar test range is 160-163, and after breakfast sugar test range is 1
Avatar n tn org to find it) has had similar problems. This forum really specializes in type 1 diabetes rather than type 2, so our experience is pretty much nil with type 2 medications.
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Metformin for type 2 diabetes and have gone from 500 mg to 1,500 mg per day. A1C and glucose is worsening despite higher dose and strict diet, exercise. Does my body have an issue with the drug? I was considering Berberine as a natural supplement instead of Metformin, thoughts?
Avatar f tn I would recommend that you monitor your sugars and keep your doctors informed so that they can help you manage your diabetes as your pregnancy progresses. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes and I had it even before pregnancy.Till my 3rd trimester I was on medicine-metformin and diet. From third trimester it is just going up.So along with metformin I am on two types of insulin every day.But as of now my baby is doing fine.I am 34 W 6 days.
Avatar f tn I wonder how many people there are who have HCV and were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as adults... I was diagnosed with type 1 in my early 20s. If I was infected with HCV when I think I was (tattoo in the early 80s), then my diagnosis of type 1 diabetes came a couple of years later. The liver stores sugar. In a person without T1 diabetes, the pancreas continually shoots out insulin through the day and the liver shoots out sugar stores.
1574695 tn?1322590597 I am 5 w & 4 days pg, and my dr said to come off my metformin until I see a diabetes/pregnancy dr, but last year I was pregnant and sadly we lost the baby, that dr said to keep taking my metformin, anyone else getting conflicting info?
1411765 tn?1281652371 There is a substantial number of adults who are misdiagnosed Type 2 who are in fact Type 1 or LADA which is a slow onset type 1. Some of the indications that this might be the case would be a person who was put on oral meds and they did nothing or they worked for awhile (months to a couple years) then stopped working, necessitating insulin use.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed for type 2, PCOS, high thyroid and in-fertility. I'm on Metformin 500mg 2/day for type 2 diabetes. Also on fertility medicine Femara and thyroid medicine, typing to get pregnant. I need some fruit to take Metformin. Just Metformin is making me more nauseous and discouraging. So I eat one date fruit with every Metformin i,e just after swallowing Metformin. Is this okay?. Also I eat grapes now whenever I feel like need more energy to move around. Is that good?
Avatar n tn Also, if you are really type 1, you posted in the type 1 forum, then you need to be taking insulin to stay healthy. If you are type 2, you may be able to manage by following a low carb diet, exercising, building muscle mass, Glucophage/ metformin, and maintaining normal weight. However, bottom line is that you need to normalize blood sugars to prevent complications.
Avatar m tn I have type 2 diabetes and take metformin twice a day. For the past two days I have ate breakfast, then about 5 or six hours later, I started feeling light, weak and hungry and a little shaky. I ate and it stopped. What could this be?
Avatar n tn I am a 49 year old woman. I was diagnosed w type 2 diabetes two years ago. Since that time I have been taking metformin 500x3per day w 'permission' to take a 4th if a social situation should require further food intake. I am VERY careful what I eat, and I exercise and get enough sleep and try to take good care of myself. I have a new doctor who ran all his own tests. I also have Hashis hypothyroid. My thyroid #s came back high so I have to lower them asap.
Avatar n tn I'm 24 with type two diabetes. I am obese. I take metformin. I've been waking up before my alarm everyday with a really weird, almost hungover, dizzy feeling and I don't want to open my eyes. I get restless and have to go to the bathroom. It's always diarrhea. I then start to get sweaty, nauseous, shaky... The top of my stomach starts feeling really weird. Ill usually start getting really emotional and upset about the way I'm feeling.
Avatar f tn I'm 29 and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 18 months ago. it has been extremely difficult to lose weight since I got on insulin. i am on lantas/humalog and exercise regularly. If I work to reduce my lantus dosage while maintaining a proper blood sugar will that aid weight loss? Does anything out there help to boost metabolism in diabetics? Frustrated! Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Type 11 last year and have been trying to control my diabetes with diet alone. Recently my blood sugar has been quite high, regardless of what I eat. I am keeping a diary for my doctor and he may prescribe Metformin. I know I can go to Diabetes classes for info but was wondering if one can eat more normally by taking Metformin? And it seemed to spike when I had a cold but the cold is gone, but not the high blood sugar readings. Anyone else affected by illness?
Avatar m tn "I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year and have been on metformin for about 2 years. This has controlled the blood sugar levels but all the symptoms are still present." Medication alone will not control and manage your glucose levels. What are they - fasting, preprandial and postprandial? How often do you test? Are you eating a diabetic diet, exercising daily and at normal body weight?
Avatar n tn There are more than 1 antibody to test for, and also some other tests to define between type 1 and 2. Dinner persons with type 1 are apparently antibody negative. Your presentation doesnt appear typical for type 2. Please see what your endocrinologist says. Regardless, if insulin is what works then don't be concerned to take it. Let us know what happens with your endo visit.
Avatar f tn Please also have your dr test for adult onset type 1 - they can test for whether your insulin levels are high or low, and this will give some indication if it is type 1 or type 2. They can also test for antibodies. Adult onset type 1 is more common in women who had gestational diabetes. It the oral meds are not controlling blood sugars well, do not hesitate to ask your dr to let you go on insulin. Insulin makes control much easier and better compared to oral meds, in many cases.
Avatar f tn I am a 21 year old male and I have type 1 diabetes, I have heard that there may be potential issues with fertility as a diabetic but I have been taking my vitamins, and everything seems to be working just fine, my girlfriend has just taken out her IUD(Morena) and we are trying to conceive and my question is that, is there anyway to increase our chances of conception?
1461465 tn?1285865061 Another bit of left field input. It is interesting to me that your husband is doing well on only Lantus and Metformin which is a type 2 oral med. Most type 1's need a bolus (fast-acting) insulin before meals as well or they are high two hours after eating (over 140). You don't say how long your husband has been diagnosed, he could still be in his honeymoon period. But if he is overweight you might want to clarify that he is not, in fact type 2. (antibody tests would confirm).
Avatar n tn All of the volunteers here at Medhelp have knowledge of and life experiences with type 1 diabetes. Seeing that you are on metformin, I am going to assume that you have type 2 diabetes. I do not have any personal knowledge of this medication and the other meds you have listed I cannot comment on either. What I can suggest is that you pose this question to your healthcare provider and have some blood work done to check your levels.
Avatar m tn My internist told me its muscular neuropathy caused by diabetes. Put me on citalopram and painkillers. My 2HR glucose was 117 and after 2hrs 170 .generally my sugar level is higher above 150 at random. I still have under arm pain and thighs pain though it has lessened now. But when it returns ,I feel bouts of anxiety and stress. I'm not on diabetes treatment. I believe I had diabetes since long. I have lipomas, when they form I'm in extreme pain.
Avatar n tn My Doctor put me on Metformin for "borderline Type 2 Diabetes" (my blood sugar count is 6.5). About 3 months ago, he started me on one 500MG at bedtime. My blood sugar count remained the same, so a month ago he doubled the dosage to 1000MG (once during the day and at bedtime). However, I am not experiencing any weight loss, but I am experiencing hair loss. Every morning I brush out lots of hair and the texture of my hair has changed.
Avatar f tn I have had Type 2 diabetes since October 07. I was put on Amaryl then and now am also on Metformin. I have since gained almost 5-8 pounds. Is this normal? I can't find this listed as a side effect in the drug info. I am about 20 pounds overweight and have been trying to lose that to help with the diabetes. I have a healthy diet and try to exercise as much as I can. I also have Crohn's disease (which may have contributed to the onset of diabetes), so heavy exercise is out for me.
1888358 tn?1320969676 Hello, I'm new to this forum, but thought I'd ask a couple of questions. I was diagnosed about 10 years ago with Type 2 Diabetes (I'm 33), and I've never really been under good control. I have been prescribed Metformin, but it always makes me so sick (Low Blood Sugar feeling as well as diarrhea) so inevitably I stop taking it. My first question is, does anyone know how long it typically takes for these side effects to subside?
996946 tn?1503249112 Can Diabetes 2 actually turn into Diabetes 1 if you have it long enough and your pancreas stops working...or is there no connection between Diabetes I & 2?
