Common Questions and Answers about Metformin and serum creatinine

Avatar m tn Both BUN and creatinine are metabolic waste products, and the healthy kidneys keep them range at a normal level. If kidneys can’t play their job optimally, excess creatinine and blood urea nitrogen will build up in the body. Clinically, 5.0mg/dl of creatinine and 60mg/dl of BUN are two indicators of renal failure. To prevent so high BUN and creatinine level, the best method is to control them as soon as you find them just higher than the normal (9-20mg/dl for BUN, 0.5-1.2mg/dl for creatinine).
Avatar m tn Creatine is absorbed for use by the muscle and expelled as creatinine. According to my lab, the normal range for serum (blood) creatinine is .5 - 1.5, so your numbers do appear to be a little high. I suggest you do as Vanessa says -- stop the supplements and get retested.
Avatar m tn start use of fibroguard check that vitd is above 50ng/ml if not start supplementation of d3 and k2 as to egfr tests use creatinine clearance by 24hrs urine collection, the other tests that use formulas are not so reliable.
Avatar n tn If one is having a CT Scan with Contrast [dye] the diabetes medication Metformin [glucophage] must be stopped 48 hrs prior then a Serum Creatinine test performed 48 hrs later before one restarts.
468265 tn?1207540518 You were in the right ballpark. High serum creatinine does suggest renal (kidney) disease. But, a low serum creatinine isn't the same as a low creatinine clearance. If you don't clear the creatinine through your kidneys it's in the blood and is reflected by a high serum creatinine level. It's an easy thing to confuse. It's also obvious to me that you haven't had any renal problems because if you had you'd know this stuff.
Avatar n tn Hi there, The reference ranges for serum creatinine are 0.5 to 1.0 mg/dL which is about 45-90 μmol/l for women and 0.7 to 1.2 mg/dL (60-110 μmol/l) for men. A baseline serum creatinine of 2.0 mg/dL (150 μmol/l) may indicate normal kidney function in a male body builder but a serum creatinine of 0.7 mg/dL (60 μmol/l) can indicate significant renal disease in a old woman.
8521365 tn?1398618067 i also had some problems before starting tdf with creatinine out of range on entecavir so i checked baseline creatinine and creatinine clearance by 24 urine collection when started tdf add on to etv and then recheck creatinine monthly first year and clearance once a year but after the gcmaf therapy, heptech and so diet my creatinine clearance went from 108 to 144, over normal range, super kidneys so i am definitely out of any possible effect on my kidneys
Avatar m tn however, my creatinine serum is slightly elevated. Creatinine came out to be 1.48 mg/dl. My doctor told me to get tested again in 6 weeks to see if it is reduced. Please note that I am a heavy weight lifter. I have been practicing bodybuilding for about 4 years; therefore, i also have a higher protein intake than an average person. In the past, I have taken and cycled creatine monohydrate supplement. I got off my creatine cycle 2 weeks ago.

Before we left the hospital the level came down to 4.6 and his blood pressure was down to 145/80. Now taking blood pressure medicine also but was taken off the metformin.
Avatar f tn Here is information about getting a creatinine test, https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/creatinine-test/about/pac-20384646 It sounds like the only thing that affects a creatinine test is the kidneys having an issue, not a person taking a pill. If you think the ativan might have actually affected your kidneys, talk to your doctor. The following is a list of possible side effects from ativan, https://www.rxlist.com/ativan-side-effects-drug-center.htm.
Avatar m tn The normal values of serum creatinine are 0.6-1.2mg/dl for the male and 0.5-1.1mg/dl for the female. And usually the creatinine is higher in young adults than in the elderly. Persistent increased level of serum creatinine or decreased level of urine creatinine usually reflects impairment of renal functions. Here are some natural ways for lowering high creatinine. http://www.kidney-cares.org/creatinine/100.html http://www.kidneyfailureweb.com/creatinine/233.
Avatar n tn However 10 days earliar in the blood test the serum CREATININE was 8.2 and UREA was 108. Is the reduction of CREATININE and Blood UREA is positive sign?? Is the CRF as said reversable?? Blood Test Reports: CREATININE presently 7.5 10 days earliar 8.2 normal-value( 0.6 -1.

Avatar m tn I am a 54 year old woman. My last creatinine level was 1.23 and 6 months later it is 1.34. My gfr was 46 and now 41. My GP says it's fine. I have a neph and will see her in 3 weeks. I was never told about limiting protein or asked to do any diet changes. So when I had my tests I had had protein/red meat at dinner before test. What do you all think about the changes in levels?
Avatar m tn Additional diagnostic tests such as glomerular filtration rate, renal ultrasound, and possible intravenous urography and serological screening for autoantibodies and complement level. Hope this helps. Take care and do keep us posted.
