Common Questions and Answers about Metformin and ovulation time

glucophage

Avatar f tn /2 weeks. My doctor has not prescribed me metformin to help regulate my periods and promote ovulation. I am not diabetic, but I am overweight and that doesn't help either so I am going to work on that too. Hopefully this will help. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn But now as you are taking clomid, and want a fast conception, monitoring of ovulation can be done with the help of ultrasound scan. At the exact time of ovulation intercourse can be planned. For faster results IUI intra-uterine insemination can be done at the time of ovulation. Combining insulin-sensitizing agent like metformin with clomid can give excellent results. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations.
Avatar f tn I took five rounds of clomid ( up to 150mg) and metformin and did not ovulate. So after having surgery I started with tamoxifen (pills) bc clomid is no good for me. But the tamoxifen didn't work very good either that's why I took follistim injections. My doctor had us do a postcoidal test, so we had sex sunday night and then went to my RE monday morning and he took a small sample of my cervical mucus to see how many sperm survived the night.
374593 tn?1257879950 I do not feel that Metformin will directly affect release of the follicles but it can overall help you with PCOS in conjuction with fertility medication. I would not use Metformin alone since it has been demonstrated in a study that ovulation is better with ovulation medications than with Metformin alone. Perhaps all of your follicles do not ovulate because the size is not optimal when you get the HCG trigger.
400358 tn?1320234443 I gave myself a 6 month break from the pill, and only stayed on metformin...and had 5 normal periods, but went back on the pill in Jan 2010 because my period was 10 days late. Did I ovulate during those times? I'm not really sure...I don't track it, but I can remember feeling some twinges around that time and a change in CM...so who knows. I've never missed a period for as long as I could remember (well except last month).

736178 tn?1237223790 Hi, I understand how frustrating this is for you. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 9 months ago and also was placed on Metformin. My periods have never been regular, but it was still concluded that I had PCOS. My doctor said that there are many things (not only blood tests) that can help diagnose PCOS. I was also prescribed metformin due to hyperinsulinemia caused by PCOS. I was told that increased insulin in the body has been linked to infertility in some studies.
462793 tn?1206642873 i still haven't ovulated and getting very depressed. i just don't understand. should i let my doctor know i am still not ovulating and see if he wants to put me on something else before finishing my 6 mth cycle of clomid and metformin? it sounds like some people it does work, but it doesn't look that way for me. i have very irregular periods so i am on provera too to start my period. does any one has storeis about that?
Avatar f tn I have been on clomid, along with Metformin, and now a natural ovulation medication called Vitex. I have ovulated on all of them.
193609 tn?1292180293 I've been researching this topic and have found that it can take as long as up to a year to restore a normal menstrual cycle. Some cases it may take 3-6 months, but I have read also up to a year. It just depends on how well your body reacts to it. And not in all cases is the weight an issue. Allot of women at a healthy weight have issues with a normal period each month too. I know how frustrating it is to wait for your period and it not be regular each month. Have you been under any stress?
Avatar f tn I know that I ovulated around CD18 with my current pregnancy and was able to sustain it this time. The last pregnancy, I discontinued using Metformin as suggested by my OB. This time (new OB) I stayed on Metformin. I has read research that suggests that women with PCOS that take Metformin reduce their chances of miscarrying significantly. I can't say for sure if that's why I didn't miscarry this time, but I plan to use Metformin for any future pregnancies as well.
327405 tn?1223239755 I was diagnosed with PCOS last year and was put on Metformin. Over the last year of tracking my cycle I have concluded that the Metformin is inducing my period between CD 32 and CD 36. But I have found through my tracking that I'm still not ovulating. :( I went to my OB who told me that I just need to keep doing what I'm doing and it will happen. How do you get pregnant with no ovulation? Right, you can't!!! So... I made an appointment with a new OB! it was fantastic!
Avatar f tn I have pcos. Started on metformin on september 2013. And got pregnant same month but had a miscarriage... well but now at least i have a normal period and i ovulate regularly. I also lost 15 lbs since meformins helps with that and i feel great. If i dont get pregnant in 3 months i will try clomid.
Avatar f tn Is stomach exercise during ovulation time reduce conception ?The blood circulations during stomach asanas in ovulation time good for conception or not?
Avatar f tn Hi I also have PCOS and is on Metformin and also just started a round of Gonal F. Thats is supposed to help with ovulation. The metformin does not make me sick anymore, I take 1 in the morning and 2 at night that way if I feel sick I wouldn't know cause I'm asleep. LOL and so far it has worked for me. I did also try clomid but it didn't work for me, and I wa taking Follisitim and that, I did make me ovulate and I had AF with out taking pills...
Avatar f tn Clomid is usually prescribed when a woman needs to regulate her cycles and ovulation. Metformin is usually prescribed to women with PCOS. Clomid and metformin may not be your answer either. An RE will have a whole line-up of diagnostic tests to really narrow the field of possible problems for both you and your partner. You may not need fertility drugs that stimulate ovulation, but rather those that support or block production of certain hormones. Good luck!!
1302038 tn?1439575232 Metformin doesn't necessarily mean you'll ovulate. Try ovulation tests or BBT to be sure. The fact that it is helping you menstrate is a good sign though.
1498386 tn?1403027653 bcos normally the graffian follicle grows @1.5-2mm/day...clomid and metformin are fine ..dont worry...good luck and SSBD on your way....
282955 tn?1394730951 CD17 wich is yesterday I got two lines with the same intensity. I am taking metformin 500mg in the evening and 250mg in the AM. Now is this affecting the OPK results? will it give a false positive? I am having doubt because my temps say they fluctuate more than usual. and it is not detecting any ovulation yet. Am I doing fine? Is this ovulation or not? what do you experts think? http://www.fertilityfriend.
Avatar f tn It helps to improve metabolism in women who are insulin-resistant. It helps regulate menstrual cycles, start ovulation, and lower the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS. Metformin can also help in regularizing menstrual cycles and starting ovulation in about 40-45% of women with PCOS.It may be more effective when taken with Clomiphene .Do consult your gynecologist for more queries. Please keep me posted. Best regards!
Avatar n tn I spoke with my doc and he started me on metformin and povera. I stopped taking metformin after about a month because the tummy problems never went away! (sorry TMI ) Well I used provera from sept 2010 - May 2011 and did not ovulate once even with 3 of those months including Clomid. Provera does not make you ovulate it just induces a period, metformin lowers your insulin and clomid is for ovulation. Clomid doesn't work for everyone.
Avatar m tn I too have PCOS and tried metformin and Clomid like RippedonScotch mentioned. The Metformin and Clomid didn't help me and I ended up with a Fertility Specialist as my obgyn could only take it so far. It would be worth talking to your OBGYN about Metformin, it helps a lot of people as does the Clomid. Your wife is very young and if you try those meds you might have great success.

Avatar f tn I had success with both Metformin and birth control. Metformin is working so far alone. I've been on Metformin for now 1 year and birth control for 2 years. I stopped my birth control in August and had a normal period 8/30-8/31. I am looking forward to starting my next cycle this weekend. It's nice to see so far my cycles have normaled out.
