Avatar f tn The role of metformin in ovulation induction is well established, and several studies have demonstrated that women with PCOS are more likely to ovulate with metformin than with placebo alone.[2, 4] Therefore, women with PCOS often conceive while on metformin, and exposure during organogenesis is common. At present, metformin is classified as Class B in pregnancy, with no evidence of animal or fetal toxicity or teratogenicity.
736178 tn?1237223790 Hi, I understand how frustrating this is for you. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 9 months ago and also was placed on Metformin. My periods have never been regular, but it was still concluded that I had PCOS. My doctor said that there are many things (not only blood tests) that can help diagnose PCOS. I was also prescribed metformin due to hyperinsulinemia caused by PCOS. I was told that increased insulin in the body has been linked to infertility in some studies.
Avatar f tn I took five rounds of clomid ( up to 150mg) and metformin and did not ovulate. So after having surgery I started with tamoxifen (pills) bc clomid is no good for me. But the tamoxifen didn't work very good either that's why I took follistim injections. My doctor had us do a postcoidal test, so we had sex sunday night and then went to my RE monday morning and he took a small sample of my cervical mucus to see how many sperm survived the night.
Avatar f tn But now as you are taking clomid, and want a fast conception, monitoring of ovulation can be done with the help of ultrasound scan. At the exact time of ovulation intercourse can be planned. For faster results IUI intra-uterine insemination can be done at the time of ovulation. Combining insulin-sensitizing agent like metformin with clomid can give excellent results. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations.
Avatar f tn HI, Induction of ovulation with clomid will give results in women with PCOS. However it is necessary to confirm the patency of fallopian tubes to ensure success. Can be taken for 2 to 3 months and then reviewed if no results. Consult an infertility expert in case of difficulty. Hope this helps.

193609 tn?1292180293 I've been researching this topic and have found that it can take as long as up to a year to restore a normal menstrual cycle. Some cases it may take 3-6 months, but I have read also up to a year. It just depends on how well your body reacts to it. And not in all cases is the weight an issue. Allot of women at a healthy weight have issues with a normal period each month too. I know how frustrating it is to wait for your period and it not be regular each month. Have you been under any stress?
400358 tn?1320234443 I gave myself a 6 month break from the pill, and only stayed on metformin...and had 5 normal periods, but went back on the pill in Jan 2010 because my period was 10 days late. Did I ovulate during those times? I'm not really sure...I don't track it, but I can remember feeling some twinges around that time and a change in CM...so who knows. I've never missed a period for as long as I could remember (well except last month).
374593 tn?1257879950 I do not feel that Metformin will directly affect release of the follicles but it can overall help you with PCOS in conjuction with fertility medication. I would not use Metformin alone since it has been demonstrated in a study that ovulation is better with ovulation medications than with Metformin alone. Perhaps all of your follicles do not ovulate because the size is not optimal when you get the HCG trigger.
462793 tn?1206642873 no, i didn't ovulate on clomid 150mg and metformin 1,000mg, i will call my doctor and see if he can switch me on the injectables. at least i know it can happen just listening to you. good luck with your pregnancy and thanks for the advice.
Avatar f tn I have been on clomid, along with Metformin, and now a natural ovulation medication called Vitex. I have ovulated on all of them.
282955 tn?1394730951 CD17 wich is yesterday I got two lines with the same intensity. I am taking metformin 500mg in the evening and 250mg in the AM. Now is this affecting the OPK results? will it give a false positive? I am having doubt because my temps say they fluctuate more than usual. and it is not detecting any ovulation yet. Am I doing fine? Is this ovulation or not? what do you experts think? http://www.fertilityfriend.
Avatar f tn It helps to improve metabolism in women who are insulin-resistant. It helps regulate menstrual cycles, start ovulation, and lower the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS. Metformin can also help in regularizing menstrual cycles and starting ovulation in about 40-45% of women with PCOS.It may be more effective when taken with Clomiphene .Do consult your gynecologist for more queries. Please keep me posted. Best regards!
Avatar f tn You may need induction of ovulation and IUI intrauterine insemination to achieve a pregnancy. Consult an infertility expert for an evaluation. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi Everybody, I would be so grateful,if somebody clears this doubt of mine fully, i have PCOs,,i have ovulation issues too,, My doubt is that,if i get rid of PCOS with natural treatment, will my cycles become regular and the ovulation issues solves? Will my eggs grow properly and i get proper regular menstruation cylces?
Avatar f tn PCOS does not just refer to your ovaries, but it is an endocrine system abnormality (syndrome) that affects all your hormones, and insulin is a hormone. Metformin and a low GI diet and walking are your new religion. Metformin will regulate the cycle after a few months or so, as long as you are on a good diet, and cut out alcohol as well. Stress and lack of sleep also intefere.... and I hear you say; "but I don't want a baby yet so I need a contraceptive"... use CONDOMS....
