Avatar m tn No, the rate decrease if your taking metformin. I also have PCOS and I had a miscarriage in October..every since then I haven't had a period or ovulate on my own so my doctor put me on provera, metformin, and letrozole(femara) to get pregnant but the metformin alone will help you NOT to have a miscarriage...good luck to you sweetie. I think you should ask your doctor about taking metformin, it corrects PCOS also...
Avatar f tn Try dash diet it works well for me and I started out with pcos and it graduated to ovarian cancer 14 years ago.
1712386 tn?1308425981 Women with PCOS have a higher risk of getting diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Metformin helps regulate insulin levels so that the person can regulate their period and help with ovulation which is difficult in women with PCOS or even impossible for some without help with medicine. Metformin also helps a woman with PCOS have less of a risk for miscarriage (which is common with PCOS) especially if taken during the first trimester.
Avatar f tn it has gotten worse thru the years. I have never experienced any ovarian cysts and was able to conceive without trouble. Also, I have weight gain problems and difficulty losing weight. I am highly irritable, constantly tired, lazy, small appetite, wake up with a congested sinus daily, monthly neck pain such as a pulled muscle & constantly hot so I keep my AC at 68.
878888 tn?1319634044 My Dr. put me on Metformin... I have Polycystic Ovarian Synd... and was trying to get pregnant... it helped a lot! Hopefully things work out for you.
Avatar n tn I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if they have experienced food sensitivity and severe gastrointestinal problems on the metformin, and if these symptoms can be dose dependent. If it is the metformin, I was hoping I could tolerate a lower dose rather than stop it entirely. Thanks so much for any info.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 years ago, and was put on BC and Metformin. I never took the metformin but started to lose weight on my own. I am considered obese. I weighed 242 and am now at 231 at 5'4" not much, I know. That little bit of weight loss kick started my cycle. It was lasting every 42-46 days. 3 weeks ago I was due for my cycle and started spotting. Very little brown/pinkish mainly when I took a bm. Is has slowly gotten a bit heavier. But still just spotting.
1302038 tn?1439575232 I would take metformin every day and provera for 10 days and on cycle days 3-7 I was taking clomid. And you can take provera and clomid together, its the only way to get a period so that you can start your clomid. if you dont get one on your own already. Athough it didnt work for me I was taking it for 5 months. I have heard of alot of people who get it on the first try. alot more got it on the third try.
Avatar f tn Have they done CT of your abdomen and pelvis, or an abdominal or transvaginal ultrasound? Possibly what he is talking about, with the cancer, is that some ovarian cysts are cancerous. It is a lot less common for it to be cancer tho. If they have done the CT or ultrasounds, how big is the cyst(s)? Are they fluid-filled, or do they show some type of debris, or septation? To give any more clear answers, we would need more information.
Avatar n tn I do not think there is a permanent remedy other than removal of ovaries, which is not a solution for anyone that wants children, or a good solution for anyone too young to be thrown into surgical menopause (unless it is to save a person's live from ovarian cancer). There are medications that keep it under control to some degree, but I do know if they can be taken while trying to conceive. A good gynecologist should be consulted.
Avatar f tn You should talk to your dr about getting on metformin and provera to help and than clomid to help concieve. Good luck and were all here for you have you have questions.
534546 tn?1225027975 As one who has Ovarian Cancer, the only way to tell is a biopsy .. it rules cancer in or out. Dr. Goodman did give the proper sequence of events. Find a Gyn/Oncologist. They have the most experience dealing with Ovarian issues/masses. Then the MD will suggest either a laparoscopy to "see" what is there or full surgery and hysterectomy (which is what I had). Once the tumor(s) are biopsied, you will have your diagnosis. Hopefully and prayerfully, everything will be benign.
1298207 tn?1331677531 Also, if your not already on metformin...i do suggest to try and see if your doctor will give that to you, since this can also help improve the cycle.
6264261 tn?1379912902 m post menopausal but the LH shows I was ovulating (remember the follicle on the right ovary during the ultrasound), so he declared I was menopausal at 43 and may have ovarian cancer since the cyst has grown. So after freaking out for a week, the 125 test came back within normal range. Now this cyst was only hurting a bit at the time of the ultrasound, now I can hardly sit or walk most of the time and am off work.
Avatar f tn t have the best insurance which makes the search even more challenging and as you probably know, the only way that they can truly find out if it is ovarian cancer is surgically. I hope and pray that it is not OC, but I feel like I would be taking a bigger risk by continuing to wait while it might be spreading. I have four children ages 18 to 23 and two granddaughters ages 6 and just two months old.
Avatar f tn I took five rounds of clomid ( up to 150mg) and metformin and did not ovulate. So after having surgery I started with tamoxifen (pills) bc clomid is no good for me. But the tamoxifen didn't work very good either that's why I took follistim injections. My doctor had us do a postcoidal test, so we had sex sunday night and then went to my RE monday morning and he took a small sample of my cervical mucus to see how many sperm survived the night.
Avatar f tn Have you considered using metformin? I have PCOS and my pds were 3, 4, or 5 months apart. I started taking it and it immediately helped! My periods are now 30 days apart. Here is some info on it: "The Whole Story" Metformin (Glucophage) is a pharmaceutical drug often prescribed for women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).
394610 tn?1326725395 I had facial hair since I was 14. I didn't know what it was back then. I knew I had hirustism when I was 24, but noone even the endocinologist told me anything about how it leads to diabetes which I don't have and am 48. But I gained alot of weight around 39 and is hard to keep off. I had huge complex cyst and high testosterone mistaken for ovarian cancer and the OBGYN jumped the gun and said hysterectomy. I have been moody ever since and don't feel right.
Avatar n tn My ob/gyn told me I needed to choose between bc pill and ovarian drilling surgery to reduce the cysts on my ovaries. I chose to start with the pill. Did I make the right choice? I am 37, had 3 mc, 1 DD, and 1 ectopic all conceived on clomid.
Avatar f tn Dear Doctor Goodman, I have been dx with metastatic ovarian cancer after being NED for 7 years. The radiology report said it. It is supposedly in my retroperitoneal area. A pet scan lit up in that area. All my labs are in normal range and ca125 is 17 which is high for me. I was on metformin for about a year. I had surgery but the doc didn't take out anything nor did he do any biopsies. I'm supposed to start chemo carbo and taxol but I feel that I don't have enough info yet.
1298207 tn?1331677531 does anyone have both pcos and ovarian cyst? how big was it and did u have to get it removed? i was diagnosed with pcos about 3 years ago been ttc since then but no luck still...u/scan yesterday showed a 4.8 cm cyst on my right ovary...im kinda scared dont know what to expect gotta wait a week b4 followup with my gp...
Avatar n tn I have stage 1C ovarian cancer. I had a hysterectomy and staging surgery on November 15, 2007, and am currently undergoing chemotherapy. I am 46 years old, and had normal levels of hormones prior to diagnosis. Following the surgery, my doctor put me on estrogen patches (HRT). It is his belief that the benefits of estrogen outweigh the risks at my age. My pathology report showed that my ovarian cancer was estrogen receptive/reactive. So why is HRT okay?
Avatar f tn I was precribed metform but upset my stomach so much i stopped.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had ovarian cysts and had trouble concieving or had them and still got pregnant? I do, and ive been trying to get pregnant for almost a year and its really starting to feel like its never gonna happen...
Avatar f tn Before going on metformin my weight was 277. I was put on metformin seven months ago and things have changed alot for me I dont eat as much as I use too. I take 500 mg twice a day. I take at lunch and dinner. The weight seem to just fall off without me really doing anything like execrise. Before I was tested for being insulin resistanced I craved sugary foods like candy. I would buy bags and bags of candy, but once i started metformin all those cravings stopped.
801413 tn?1333539276 Hi I to have PCOS and have been on Metformin for a couple of months now and still never had a period and then my RE gave me provera to jump start my period (or in her words clean me out) and I just started before then I hadn't had a period since July of last year but only started to take the metformin in September and then stopped because of the side effects, and then started back in December, after switching from a regular gyn to a PCOS Specialist/RE and then I was basically told that this
498596 tn?1210700259 her sister (my mothers aunt) died of stomach cancer... and we wonder if that might have had any relationship to ovarian. That being said... I am very interested in this test as I do have an increased risk for breast on my paternal side and now a direct line geneticlly to ovarian cancer. I think the advice given above is a good one. To do the testing with a history or direct line to ovarian cancer...although whatever makes you most comfortable is what you should do. Hope this helps...
