Metformin and memory loss

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin and memory loss

glucophage

Avatar n tn Metformin (Glucophage) must be taken with food otherwise it may cause nausea or vomiting, gas, ingestion, and abdominal discomfort leading to loss of appetite and, of course, excessive weight loss. Your mother might want to switch to the long-acting form of Metformin, called Metformin ER, which has fewer side effects in patients. Please discuss this with her doctor.
Avatar f tn Also the diabetes drug metformin is known to cause low vitamin B12 levels. Low levels of B12 also cause memory loss, fatigue and many other health problems.
Avatar n tn My Doctor put me on Metformin for "borderline Type 2 Diabetes" (my blood sugar count is 6.5). About 3 months ago, he started me on one 500MG at bedtime. My blood sugar count remained the same, so a month ago he doubled the dosage to 1000MG (once during the day and at bedtime). However, I am not experiencing any weight loss, but I am experiencing hair loss. Every morning I brush out lots of hair and the texture of my hair has changed.
Avatar f tn Can you tell me about its side effects? Recently I went for a checkup and my doctor gave me Metformin for weight loss (It suddently went up to 99 kg though I was at 85 before and was following a strict diet plan). I don't have diabetes and I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, and I think Metformin is generally used for these two issues. So I'm concened whether I should really be Metformin. Can it mess up my insulin system?
Avatar f tn Before going on metformin my weight was 277. I was put on metformin seven months ago and things have changed alot for me I dont eat as much as I use too. I take 500 mg twice a day. I take at lunch and dinner. The weight seem to just fall off without me really doing anything like execrise. Before I was tested for being insulin resistanced I craved sugary foods like candy. I would buy bags and bags of candy, but once i started metformin all those cravings stopped.

Avatar f tn Since I now longer take Metformin I am having trouble losing the last 20 lbs I need to lose. Is there a connection between weight loss and taking Metformin. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar f tn Yes, Metformin is reported to help decrease appetite, but then you still need to do the weight of eating less and exercising more! The good news is that cutting carbs will help both your blood sugar and your weight! (which in turn helps your blood sugar!
Avatar f tn I do not want to take Metformin and become ill, especially since I still work full time. But in a few years - I may try all of these. My weight seems to have leveled off. Not losing any more weight, I uped my carb intake, was practically eating no carbs. I will wait to see what my nex A1c is ... Thaks so much for your input ... I have never heard of LADA type diabetes.

644577 tn?1224350916 t know about you but I saw results right away and I have been on metformin since 9/11 and lose 22 pounds. But I walk 45 minutes a day after lunch. One of my friends was put on metformin also but it did not work for her. She gained weight.
Avatar f tn t say you tested low on blood sugar and metformin is usually used for more serious situations of diabetes, or at least I think that's true. At any rate, given your situation, you need to see a professional in both allopathic and natural medicine and especially someone who can analyze your diet to see where you're going wrong. Which means I wouldn't at this point mix adrenal balancers with what you're doing right now given that both can lower blood sugar. Good luck.
Avatar f tn My A1C has been improving slightly through weight loss, diet and exercise. It is now at 6.6 At its highest it was 7 or just under. I am not taking medication at present. My daily readings are slightly high in the morning at approx. 130 (dawn effect!), but normal the rest of the day at 100 or less. My GP prescribed 4x500 mg of Metformin daily which I am too hesitant to take. Any thoughts please?
Avatar n tn I am taking Metformin for PCOS, and I am not trying to get pregnat, will this drug be effective to treat my PCOS. Also how does it help with weight loss.
Avatar n tn Could Metformin cause thinning or hair loss? I started two Metformin 500 mg a day last May. Went on a locarb, no processed foods or alcohol diet. Lost 30#'s. End of August, switched to one Metformin ER 500 mg a day cause my A1C went from 7.4 down to 5.2 in 3 1/2 months. I have thought of a vitamin or iron deficiency, but I eat a lot of healthy foods and haven't lost weight beyond the 30#'S I lost last summer. I read that some people on here think Victoza caused their hair loss.
Avatar f tn After 13 months of trying I finally got a BFP (5 months after starting Metformin). I used Clomid for 2 cycles and decided to stop and focus on weight loss. Lo and behold I got pregnant! It was like the Clomid re-started my ovaries. I did miscarry but that was because I needed to be on progesterone because of having Clomid in the previous cycle. Well I decided to get back to losing weight. It took 8 weeks to get AF (arrived January 13) after the miscarriage. I lost 8 lbs in January alone.
2006473 tn?1422033301 I have only taken the metformin twice so far and no upset tummy (Thank Gpd) and I am already starting weightwatchers to try and help me lose weight. I go back to see the doc in about 4 months to see how everything is working out. As for the whole pregnancy thing I was hoping to really start my family in about 2 years. Having children is very important to me so we will be talking to the doctors about that too.

571167 tn?1223214465 I've been on methadone for 6 months. And I loose everything. Keys credit cards anything I set down. Forget to do things. Sometimes I drop my mom off and drive home, forgetting to stop at the methadone clinic. The clinic says "I haven't heard of that". I'm on 80mg. Has anyone else experienced this as fast. I am really worried, my dad died 4 years ago. From glioblastoma, which is the worst type of brain cancer and one of the symptoms is short term memory loss.

Avatar n tn Johns Hopkins researchers who have been at the forefront of this field reviewed the evidence on short-term and long-term mental changes after bypass surgery. They found that short-term confusion, memory loss, and poorer problem solving and information processing are common after bypass surgery, but are usually temporary and reversible. Most people return to their pre-bypass level of function between 3 and 12 weeks after surgery.
Avatar f tn But this forgetfulness is too much stressful for me and affecting my work and peace of mind. Even my parents are complaining and blaming me all the time for this. Could this be depression? I have a very demanding and insecure job in NGO sector, which involves on an average 15 days travel per month in different countries. I have a difficult life, with broken marriage and parents with extreme fragile health. I try my best to take care of them and I live with them.
