Avatar f tn Hey ladies, my husband and i have tried ivf three times. we've only made it to retrevial once, due to poor response. I'm 26 and was diagnosed with pcos. my peroid have always been regular. I am over weight (242 lbs) and started metformin in october. since starting metformin i've lost a little over 20 lbs. do you think if i lost more weight i would respond better to the meds. I know some hormones are stored in fat expecially belly fat. Just wondering what you ladies think.
Avatar m tn I have lost about 8 pounds in the last month since taking the phentermine but i dont feel like I am losing enough weight for how little i have been eating.
Avatar f tn in my case their was nothing wrong with my ovaries but I did have insulin resistance which caused me very bad acne, no period at all, alittle facial hair, and definitely darking folds around my neck and arms.My OB/GYN put me on metformin and birth control. A year later I've lost 61 pounds because of it..i feel amazing. It was slow in the beginning because of the side effects from the metformin ex. stomach bloat, gas, diarrhea, and ingestion.
Avatar f tn Since I now longer take Metformin I am having trouble losing the last 20 lbs I need to lose. Is there a connection between weight loss and taking Metformin. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar f tn I kept on the very low carb diet, eating mostly proteins - fish fish and more fish I started losing weight really fast. I was originally at 112 - 115 keeping my weight at that by eating a ton on carbs. As soon as I was diagnosed I cut out carbs and now my weight is at 92 - 95 pounds. I am very small boned and when I was younger I weighed between 90 & 95 pounds until I turn 40 something. My morning blood sugar fasting when I was first diagnosed at hardly ever below 135 in the morning.
Avatar f tn I too have PCOS and my doc just put me on Metformin to help me Ov I was on clomid for 6 months and only Ov once the whole time now he took me off the clomid and just put me on Metformin and told me that it will help with my Ov I am not insulin resistance but he says it will help me to Ov. I am not over weight and I am over all healthy thank god. I hope it helps you and I both to Ov.
Avatar f tn Oh and Metformin regulated my cycles! My periods were BAD and all over the place. I regulated to a 32-day cycle. I hope my story wasn't confusing. Basically I feel that weight loss and the medication helped my ovaries do their job.
594189 tn?1386916607 my ob just keeps tellin me lose weight and it will happen!! have you heard about metformin, i have read on here that it is great for weight loss and pcos, my doc was a bit iffy about putting me on it, but i am going to ask him again.
Avatar f tn Before going on metformin my weight was 277. I was put on metformin seven months ago and things have changed alot for me I dont eat as much as I use too. I take 500 mg twice a day. I take at lunch and dinner. The weight seem to just fall off without me really doing anything like execrise. Before I was tested for being insulin resistanced I craved sugary foods like candy. I would buy bags and bags of candy, but once i started metformin all those cravings stopped.
Avatar f tn HI, PCOS women often have weight issues and also it is difficult to lose weight. Losing weight will help to a great extent and hormone levels can get moderated. Drugs like metformin may also help with weight loss. PCOS women may sometimes require induction of ovulation which will increase the chances of a pregnancy. Hope this helps. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor.
2006473 tn?1422033301 I have only taken the metformin twice so far and no upset tummy (Thank Gpd) and I am already starting weightwatchers to try and help me lose weight. I go back to see the doc in about 4 months to see how everything is working out. As for the whole pregnancy thing I was hoping to really start my family in about 2 years. Having children is very important to me so we will be talking to the doctors about that too.
400358 tn?1320234443 If you are overweight, and of course taking metformin you should start losing weight along with diet. Therefore, you could start having cycles and normal cycles for that matter, as well as also ovulating on a monthly basis. I take metformin twice a day 500mg, but I am also on birth control. Before knowing I had pcos, I always had a cycle every month...just was very irregular and heavy. I gave myself a 6 month break from the pill, and only stayed on metformin...
Avatar n tn I'm sorry I don't know how the metformin and birth control do together but I also have PCOS and am on metformin. I haven't been on the metformin too long yet but I definitely think it helps. I have found that with PCOS though the only way I have been able to lose any weight is in cutting carbs. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

1442873 tn?1284246187 I would recommend that you continue with the metformin and work very hard with exercise and healthy diet (lower carb diets usually work best for people with PCOS) to get down close to your ideal weight. Losing weight is also a very effective way to increase fertility. If you have managed to get your weight down and fitness increased and you're still not successful, then will be the time to get some assistance.
Avatar f tn s case, she has started losing the weight once she picked up the two jobs--she works in a restaurant and a deli and she tells me that she is so active at both places that she is often sweating from how much work she is doing there. She started working in November, where she weighed about 152 lbs and now in February after working a good 30+ hours a week, she is now 144 lbs.
3634255 tn?1347759104 My husband and I want to have a baby. Losing weight has not been easy, although I've done it! I have lost as much as my body will allow me to because although i still do the same thing i did to lose my first 17 pds it is no longer working. Is there something, anything that I can do. I want this so badly.
2181880 tn?1337764197 The key to losing weight is eating healthy and drinking lots of water. Weight loss consists of 80% diet and 20% exercise. Find a friend to go on long walks with and your weight should start melting off. Most internet sites gives tons of healthy recipes and tips for better food choices. Unfortunately PCOS does not disappear, but the symptoms may disappear with weight loss. I'm 17 years old and I was diagnosed with the syndrome in February of 2010, when I was 14.
797365 tn?1239350671 I was diagnosed with PCOS 8 months ago. Last December I started clomid and metformin together. This is my 4th month. I don know wat’s goin to happen the next month. My periods are regular. I am overweight (155 lb). my question is does clomid and metformin works for overweight women like me… I want to have a baby badly.
Avatar n tn My gynecologist started me on 500 mg of metformin and told me to lay off carbs and try to lose some weight. I had my first menstrual period about a month later. Losing weight will help a lot. It depends largely on if and how overweight you are. My doctor was very surprised that I had a cycle so soon on such a low dose, but I was dedicated and lost about 7 pounds in that first month taking Metformin. Good luck!
