253566 tn?1219679699 He has prescribed Metformin for Fatty Liver NOT for diabetes. Doing a google it seems that there is no meds for fatty liver and Metformin is for diabetes. He has me prescribed 500mg 2X/day. I am upset that he didnt run another Glucose test or any other for diabetes. Seems the worse side effects of Metformin is gastrointestinal upset & I already have really bad GERD but have success with generic prilosec. I would hate to create a worse condition with my GERD...
Avatar m tn My GI doctor sent me for a ultrasound of my stomach and when he got the results back he said, I had a fatty liver. Can someone explain to me just what a fatty liver is and what causes it . My doctor said, it was nothing to worry about !
Avatar f tn Clinical trials are also looking at the effectiveness of certain antioxidants and newer diabetes medications in treating fatty liver disease. This is because of the disease's link to oxidative stress and diabetes.
Avatar f tn I'm a G3 and I've read that G3's are more likely to get fatty liver, and that it does improve after tx. I can't be sure about G2's, but, if you are SVR, your liver should improve slowly over time if you look after yourself and I would hope that says the same for fatty liver. I'm hoping to have an ultrasound soon, so I can check on progress.
2121656 tn?1395674749 i think that almost definitely you have fatty liver. You can wait until 10/2012 for an evaluation and you can swim in a chlorine pool. Autoimmune hepatitis could be a possibility but the pattern of the elevated liver tests is more consistent with NASH. Metformin and lipitor can actually be the treatment of NASH so i would continue them.
1717054 tn?1316712653 is the biopsy safe and doesn't damage the liver? does fatty liver damage the liver over time?
Avatar f tn I also have high cholesterol and a fatty liver. My glucose is 116 and A1C is 7. My liver biopsy is stage 2, grade 2, no cirrohsis. My gasto doctor told me that I have a 40% chance of cure on standard treatment because of my other health problems. He suggested Metformin and lipitor as treatment for my fatty liver and then I could go on the interferon and copegus treatment. I am very confused at this point. I am afraid to start these drugs. Can I take this medication with the hep C treatment.
15493140 tn?1689515999 In fact, metformin may be beneficial in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (1) and chronic hepatitis C (3). Metformin is only contraindicated in patients with advanced cirrhosis because it heightens the risk of developing lactic acidosis (4).
Avatar f tn Thank you, PastorDan. I read something about Metformin that said if you have weakness, to not take Metformin and I sure don't need to add to my symptoms. I hope your wife is doing well today. Is she in alot of pain? I hope they can help her with the liver disease. I don't think I realized fatty liver could cause chirosis. That's kind of scary! I've had a fatty liver for many years. I really need to lose alot of weight but my insurance doesn't cover weight loss.
Avatar n tn I do not know if the jolting pain, the SGPT, the fatty liver, Metformin, LDL and stress might somewhat be connected.
901131 tn?1293744553 no not really - however i have hep c and diabetes and have been taking metformin during two rounds of treatment - im currently doing round 2 - actually my diabetes has proven uncontrollable to date and its getting progressively worse also - im on 2 oral meds and 2 types of insulin - diabetes and fatty liver can mess treatment all up - i wish they could get it under control
Avatar f tn Basically I only take my Metformin and pain meds on a day to day basis. I had a liver biopsy and it is relatively normal, negative for fatty liver or autoimmune hepatitis. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been diagnosed with fatty liver since a couple of years now and only recently starting doing something really concrete about it. I am 33 years old and overweight (250 pounds for 5'11) and have been dealing with a binge eating problem for about 10 years now... I am seeing a psychiatrist since about a year now and it helped me a lot. I have been an avid jogger for many years and recently resumed working out seriously.
Avatar m tn PPC was more active than diammonium glycyrrhicinate, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), bezafibrate, and fish oil. A combination therapy of metformin, diet, exercise and PPC in patients with type 2 diabetes was more effective than metformin, diet and exercise alone. The same was the case for the combination therapy of PPC with UDCA. No relevant side-effects were reported.
806995 tn?1265823176 Being insulin resistant impairs your ability to achieve a sustained response to Chemotherapy drugs peginterferon and ribavirin... Adding Metformin before and during Hep C treatment increases your odds of clearing... IR can be the cause of steatosis & fibrosis in genotype 1 patients. 2121656 tn?1395674749 Thank you for the quick response. I greatly appreciate it. I'm ecstatic to beable to go into our new pool, also for exercise seeing that I pulled a muscle in my groin walking the treadmill. My fear of waiting till Oct. to see a gastro is that severe damage will happen to my liver in the meantime, until I get treatment. I picked up my ultrasound report and if you could please explain what all this means? Abdominal Ultrasound-Limited: Comparsion is made to the previous study of 8/28/08 1.
Avatar f tn My results are always normal and my liver is very normal and healthy too. If Metformin caused liver damage wouldn't you think it would have affected my liver by now? As far as your recent glucose levels, I feel if you lost the excess poundage and got into daily physical exercise you can get your levels back to normal. If you slack off, however, your glucose may continue to rise calling for upon the need of medication.
Avatar f tn But now we have to wait due to my diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver and degenerative disk disease but mostly the liver thing.... we are still hoping and praying but we are considering adoption.
Avatar n tn Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is common and, for most people, causes no signs and symptoms and no complications. But in some people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the fat that accumulates can cause inflammation and scarring in the liver. This more serious form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is sometimes called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. At its most severe, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease can progress to liver failure.

Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with a fatty liver and liver hemangioma. The doctor hasn;t said anything to me about what to do. Do I just leave it alone? Live with the pain? Is it a precurser to liver cancer? I am 47 years old and overweight. I try to eat a healthy diet. Anybody else have these same issues?
Avatar n tn thank you for your kind response...but until now i don't know what to do...i'am afraid to go the doctor and found what the results??? but i told my husband to accompany me to my obgyne...maybe before end this week...please share some of your experience about this problem...
2131142 tn?1335648576 After the hysterectomy, CT and ultrasound showed 3 spots on liver and because they did not grow, doc said that it was endometriosis in the liver. Since then I have been diagnosed with NA Fatty Liver disease. I am now 57 and having abdominal swelling, stomach pain, nausea, upset stomach after eating (and can only eat very small meals and very bland). I am wondering do I need those 3 "spots" on my liver rechecked.
Avatar m tn Your levels are high and do require some attention. Diabetes itself can cause elevated liver tests by causing fatty liver disease, so this is one thing your doctor should investigate(usually by liver ultrasound). In your case, the most likely cause is your medications because you are on several cholesterol medications that can cause liver test abnormalities, especially when used together.
Avatar m tn Dx with high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus T2 (FBG was 7.3), fatty liver (ASP and ALP elevated). Started diabetic diet and Glimepiride for 10 days. FBG was 6 or under but after 10 days I had hypoglicemic episode. I was shaking, cold, lost all my strength. The whole time my BG was 6. I ate few things. Bread and fruit. Shaking stopped. Doc said FBG of 6 and HbA1c of 6.3 should be managed with diet and exercise.
