400358 tn?1320234443 Did you get periods before you were diagnosed with PCOS? or did you just get periods when on birth control? I am asking bc I have PCOS and got pregnant with my first child through IVF. I would like to try to get pregnant again on my own and have been on metformin for almost a year. I only got my period before this on birth control +but have never tried to see if I will ovulate on just metformin.
Avatar m tn I also started taking birth control again. My doctor also prescribed taking metformin(glucophage) in addition to the phentermine and birth control. I have lost about 8 pounds in the last month since taking the phentermine but i dont feel like I am losing enough weight for how little i have been eating.
193609 tn?1292180293 m dying to know if my cycles are regular, but I am on birth control pills at the moment and probably wont know until next year. What's the dosage you take of metformin? I take 500mg 2x a day. Like I said, it can take up to a year to restore the normal cycle (or somewhat normal cycle give or take a day or two).
Avatar n tn Hi my gyno put me of birth control pills to help get my ovaries producing hormones again and she said they would help releve some of the other symptoms...excess hair, acne etc. But I just started taking them two weeks ago and I feel sick to my stomach all the time, I feel exhausted tired....I am really over weight so that could be the cause of the tired feeling. But I just feel sick...has anyone else felt this way with these pills and are they really help full with treating symptoms??
Avatar f tn I was on metformin before pregnancy when i found out they immediately took me off. I was told some women stay on till mid 2nd tri but have to b taking off after that. Me and my doc didnt wanna take any chances since you dont have to b on it...u can do insulin like stated above which is safer. Good luck tho...
1574695 tn?1322590597 my dr sai the last two tests they did u wouldnt know i was diabeteic as my control is good, i asked if i needed to switch and test everyday and he said no, but then told me to stop taking them and wait until the specialist tells me if i can take them, i havent styopped them as i would rather be safe then lose my baby again, there is so much conflicting infomation about metformin, and being type 2 and with pcos makes it a nightmare..
342133 tn?1227108677 Also are there side effects later when i want to have kids? i have tried birth control and i feel that it jus makes me gain more weight. I need help!!!! Anyone that has any information please post!
Avatar f tn Will I be successful in conceiving our child/ren with metformin and after I get off birth control?
1553391 tn?1326997179 yes i also have pcos...my dr put me on metformin about 1000ml a day..it really works after my 2rd month of being on it without missing a day. i conceived my lil baby angel..which i m/c at 16weeks.. im currently trying again..
594189 tn?1386916607 s a treatment that helps my PCOS, and what a family doctor recomended trying since nothing was covered for birth control, or any other medication under my insurance in the states. It was a preexsisting condition. Birth control never worked for me anyways. He said PCOS can help lead to diabetes too in the long run, and metformin would help me avoid it hopefully. Because metformin is primarly a diabetic medication that's why it was covered, and cheap in Ohio.
Avatar f tn I have been on Metformin for about 3 yrs. I still get sick to my stomach and very loose stools and painful gas. Somedays I get no side affects and other days its unreal. Thought I would get use to it. I am on it for serveral reasons. No AF, cystic acne and to top it off type 2 diabetes.Since taken it,no skipped periods and no big cyst on my face, That last one is a blessing in its self.
1660049 tn?1326089018 With my son we were TTC so were testing every month (got BFP 2nd month). With current, I JUST stopped taking birth control and got pregnant that first cycle :) While it is possible to ovulate without having a period...a lot has to do with why you aren't having a period too. I used to be VERY underweight and didn't have the body fat needed to maintain a normal female cycle (now I am the opposite LOL I have PLENTY of body fat!)...
360318 tn?1340393363 So my question is should I get on birth control? How will this effect the way I act and the way I feel? I have heard bad stories about the pill, and that it makes you really cranky, and I am already cranky once I ovulate, and I am worried my boyfriend will leave me if I am more cranky, because he has threatened to leave a few times when I had ovulated and had been cranky.
Avatar f tn I had success with both Metformin and birth control. Metformin is working so far alone. I've been on Metformin for now 1 year and birth control for 2 years. I stopped my birth control in August and had a normal period 8/30-8/31. I am looking forward to starting my next cycle this weekend. It's nice to see so far my cycles have normaled out.
Avatar f tn My doctor said that it was likely due to me being on birth control for years, it kept my cycle normal. once I got off the birth control, my body lacked hormones to have a period. He put me on progesterone to start periods, so far I have needed it for two months to induce a period. Followed by chlomid on days 3-7 of my cycle. My question is when should I be having intercourse?
6594228 tn?1432178509 I have pcos and am taking metformin. My doctor put me on birth control a year ago I didn't like the way it made me feel so I only took it for a few months. I had been wanting to try metformin for a while and she finally prescribed it to me a month ago. I think for some reason doctors are so quick to put women with pcos on birth control, but that doesn't fix the real problem only covers the symptoms.
Avatar f tn Sometimes with pcos they will try that to see if they can get ur periods to regulate first. If ur periods or irregular u aren't going to ovulate. I have pcos and we r tryin for our second. I was on birth control first and now I'm on clomid and metformin. Its totally normal for them to try b.
Avatar n tn t have my period and get off birth control i can get pregnant? and knowing your taking metformin i take it 3 times a day 500mg. did you have your period once u conceived or how does that work?
Avatar n tn Hi i have been taking metformin 1000MG twice a day and i have not once, had any signs of abnormal bleeding, i did how ever had a very long period while i was on progesterone. i would definetly call YOUR doctor! ASAP!
Avatar m tn At the time, being emotionally stunned by the whole storm of news, I agreed and have been taking 2,000 mg of Metformin daily along with Genress Fe birth control. The birth control and Metformin have been working to keep me in balance, but the Metformin gets me sick on and off in not so tolerable ways. I never imagined at 20 I would have to deal with this and the thought of, potentially, having severe fertility issues from it when I do plan on a child is heart breaking.
2003099 tn?1327560844 can someone take birth control and metformin to conter dict the bc? i know i have high testosterone levels too. i want to try to do everything I can without using fertility drugs cuz I do gert cysy on my ovaries.and sometimes they dont go away. can my regular doc perscribe me progertion meds instead of my gyno? I dont have insurance and not much money and on budget right now any answers would help me out. maybe things over the counter that might try to help me out?
Avatar f tn I just turn 30 12 days ago I have been struggling With pcos since I was 14 years old now off birth control and I take progesterone for periods and type 2diabetes yes blood clot is from none period but I have learn some ppl have periods with pcos and dont have ovulation I have been trying to get pregnant since I was young because I new it was going to be a hard road I feel your pain you are not alone
Avatar f tn OK, I have irregular cycles and I also have PCOS, my ob said for my husband and I to. Start trying to conceive, my ob upped my dosage of Metformin to 2, 500mg a day and to stop taking my birth control. He said if I don't have a period within 35 days come back, well its been two days on Metformin and I have already started, but I was wondering how long do I have to take this before I can get Clomid?
Avatar n tn Are you taking anything other then birth control? I take Metformin to help with my pcos. It helped me lose 50+lbs and so far matain a healthy menstral cycle. I would suggest to ask your doctor about metformin.
Avatar f tn in my case their was nothing wrong with my ovaries but I did have insulin resistance which caused me very bad acne, no period at all, alittle facial hair, and definitely darking folds around my neck and arms.My OB/GYN put me on metformin and birth control. A year later I've lost 61 pounds because of it..i feel amazing. It was slow in the beginning because of the side effects from the metformin ex. stomach bloat, gas, diarrhea, and ingestion.
1179632 tn?1263935878 As I've said before to so many on here, metformin will not make you ovulate. In time it will help you to have normal cycles, in which that is why doctors put us on this medicine. My doctor put me on it to help with my weight, and to give me a normal cycle...nothing to do with ovulation. I've been on metformin since September 2008 and along with birth control. I came off the birth control in August 2009, and since then I keep having my cycle everything month around 28-32 days.
Avatar f tn I never had regular periods but wasn't diagnosed with PCOS until I was trying to get pregnant. I had bloodwork done and had an elevated LH FSH ratio. Had twins via IVF. Now I'm done reproducing and just wondering whether or not I should try to manage my hormone levels. The husband is getting a vasectomy, so contraception isn't really an issue. I'm 28 years old and haven't had any symptoms of PCOS.
Avatar n tn I stopped metformin abruptly and started birth control around the same week I stopped the metformin, and so suddenly and intensely felt so much pain like I was dying. Its been 3 months and I haven't gotten better, I used to be so happy and hopefull now I feel completely hopeless, uneasy, and cannot enjoy anything. Will I ever get better??!!
