Menstrual periods after tubal ligation

Common Questions and Answers about Menstrual periods after tubal ligation

Avatar n tn I was reading to that there is a post syndrome after a tubal (I had no idea) just today on a web site heavy bleeding is one symptom I sure have that!!!
Avatar f tn Hi there, After tubal ligation surgery a woman will have her menses and there are no menstrual changes following tubal ligation since there are no hormonal changes. After tubal ligation the chances of pregnancy are very less but there are chances of failure in any method. Pregnancy is the commonest cause of missed periods. Take up urine pregnancy test. If the test is negative you need to be evaluated for other possibilities like hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, ovulation disorders .
Avatar n tn Pregnacy after tubal ligation Topic Area: Pregnancy - Abnormal Forum: The Maternal and Child Health Forum Question Posted By: Tamm on Sunday, April 25, 1999 Posted by Tamm on April 25, 1999 at 14:03:41 I had a tubal ligation about 13 months ago..I recently went into see my dr with abnormal symtoms in my cycle ( server cramps, heavy bleeding large clots) He informed me that I was miscarring. I had blood work done that showed a high level of pregestrone, which confirmed his diagnosis.
Avatar m tn And I have read that there is a tendency to develop ovarian cysts after tubals too. They have coined the collection of symptoms Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome.
1347364 tn?1278188947 Wow, you poor thing. Did you hear about this PTLS from your doctor? Are you thinking of a reversal? I imagine if you got a reversal, then you're back at square one as far as preventing pregnancy. (I got my tubal at 38 due to my last baby being high-risk and it was suggested strongly that I was done. I probably would have had at least one more.) I guess if you had it reversed, you could ask your husband to get a vasectomy?? Those symptoms really run the gamut! And they sound awful.
Avatar f tn It is not uncommon for women to have irregular periods after a tubal ligation. Often women will choose to regulate their cycles will birth control pills even though they don't need them for contraception. It is very important to have a period at least once every three months to keep the lining of the uterus from getting too thick. If you don't have your period soon, you should probably call your doctor. OH, and I ALWAYS recommend a pregnancy test, even if the tubes have been tied.
Avatar m tn So I have two questions...1) What is the chance of pregnancy after a tubal ligation? 2) Is it possible the spotting I experienced was implantation bleeding and I am having an ectopic pregancy? Please help...with my last pregnancy the HPT didn't show positive until 8 weeks...
Avatar n tn My doctor will not do the procedure unless I also get a tubal ligation with it so I wondered if anyone else out there had the procedure with the tubal?? Basically I've had heavy periods since after my youngest was born. For the past 5 years, they have become even heavier with large clotting. My doctor found a couple of small fibroids a couple of years ago and suggeted a D&C.
Avatar n tn i had my tubal ligation done in 2005, my last menstrual was on 3-8-12 had can i be pregnant?
Avatar n tn I am now more concerned than ever that I may be pregnant after my c-section/tubal ligation surgery in March 2001. I just turned 36 last week, and I have 4 children the last of which are twins. The kids are ages 6,5, and 3.5...I realized yesterday that although I haven't reached day 28 of my current cycle that I am a couple of days late--for me...I tend to run 23-25 days on average and only *rarely* do I ever actually make 28 days... In fact my cycle previous to this one was only 20 days!
Avatar n tn I had a tubal ligation after my fourth child was born. The word 'ligation' indicated to me a severance of the tubes; that was in 1975. Then, I had a tubo-plasty in Rochester in 1979 (result of a divorce and re-marriage...he had no children of his own). I was one of the first to be successful....result is three sons. I don't think I had any problems like those being discussed, however, it does make me wonder about ovc. After the birth of my youngest, it was time for something to be done.
Avatar f tn Remar is spot on I agree 100%,,,there is no telling how the surgical menopause may effect you...a simple tubal ligation would be better in my opinion.
1589851 tn?1301161280 Then right around 6 months post OP, I stopped Breast feeding after having serious supply issues, even after double pumping after every feeding, nursing 12 times a day, taking Domperidone AND Fenugreek. I tried everything. Then, I dried up all the way.. and that was the end of that. Then there are the mood swings. I thought I had PPD ( post partum depression) and was treated for that, but it didnt work all that well, just helped with anxiety and gave me more side effects that I didnt need.
Avatar n tn yes i got my period but i want to know why it keeps happening to me. is it a side effect to a tubal ligation. my tubal was done in 98 after my son was born and had no problems till 06. my mom on the other hand had a tubal back in 1984 and went into full on menopause her ovaries shut down.
222080 tn?1189759422 Tubal Ligation Clip came off after 10 years. Yes, two years ago, one of my clips came off and lodged in my hip. has any one heared of this happening before?
Avatar f tn In your case, having had a tubal ligation, the indication would not be for birth control but for the symptoms you describe and that is fine. I'm not sure what you mean by taking four pills. You should take it as you otherwise would: one pill at the same time each day. I suggest you see your ob/gyn to discuss these issues in greater detail. Best regards, Dr.
Avatar f tn Hello, Painful menstrual periods and spotting can be due to post tubal ligation syndrome, adenomyosis (bought on by uterus muscle and tissue being damaged, effected by the TL surgery impairing the blood supply to areas of that organ/muscle) or by retro bleeding backing into the sealed fallopian tubes. You may need an ultrasound or CT abdomen done to rule out all these conditions.
Avatar n tn Hi, Im 34yrs old and have 4 kids... After my daughter I had a tubal ligation done immediately following the delivery. I believe they cut and stitched (??) I was extremely fertile!! You could cough on me and I'd get pregnant ; ) Anyway, my cycle is every 26 days. The only time I've ever missed a period is if I was pregnant (before my tubal) I was suppose to start on 6/15/07 and I still havent yet (5days late)! My last menstrual period was 5/20/07. I took a HPT and it was neg.
Avatar f tn ) I had a tubal ligation procedure in May of this year, and no complications, in fact everything continued business-as-usual afterward. I have a female roommate, but she has been present since February, and we synched in April, so unless she is likewise having trouble it seems unlikely. Leaving the cyst. Ugh. Highly likely.
Avatar f tn I got them as a kid and they put me on birth control which fixed the problem. I am 40 years old and had a tubal ligation so I got off birth control in order to get my body working without the drugs. Well I got the cramps back 10 fold and cannot even go to work one day a month. I have a very healthy diet and exercise.I do not drink alcohol or take in any sugar around that time of the month. Basically I follow everything I have read and that has been suggested.
Avatar n tn You are not alone! I had a tubal ligation 6 years ago. My period took awhile to be normal again. I noticed more pain and heavier periods. I found out the pain was caused by ovarian cysts. Maybe you're having a harsher period because you had a D & C. Your best bet is to talk to your OB/GYN and tell him/her your symptoms.
Avatar n tn I can't believe they have it as a form or birth control. I hope your periods subside. Mine are normal after coming off of it. I hope you can talk to a doctor about what you are going through. Don't let them tell you its normal. That is just crazy. They told my friend that and then put her on the pill to control the bleeding. Just so you know the pill for my friend did control her period. She got it once a month for a week. On time every month with normal blood flow.
Avatar f tn I also had a tubal ligation in 1988 and Novasure in 2006. I've had no periods since the ablation, but about 18 months ago I have had horrible lower right abdominal cramping and pain. It comes and goes but lately is taking over my life. I have been to every specialist and had every scan done with no answers. I am scheduled to get laparscopic surgery in a week to get some answers. I too believe that this has something to do with the ablation but doctors don't want to follow the theory.
271135 tn?1192113784 one other symptom has emerged that i failed to mention. I do not have breast tenderness, but out of the blue will have these deep, sharp pains that quickly come and go.
Avatar n tn i have been having regular periods since i had my tubal ligation 10 and a half years ago. the first two days of my period are heavy and by the fourth day i am usually through. well this time i was late and i spotted one time one night. the next day nothing. the day after nothing, i spotted that night and by the next morning i had started. i bled heavy for 6 days and then stopped for only one day. after the one day that i stopped, i spotted late that afternoon one time. the next day nothing.
Avatar f tn Hello, There are chances of failure in any method. Tubal ligation is an effective method of sterilization. There are chances of failure if there is development of a fistula or recanalization or the device used in occlusion of the fallopian tube is misplaced Since you have missed your period it is suggested to take up pregnancy test. If pregnancy is ruled out other possible causes of missed periods like hormonal imbalances, ovulation dysfunction, thyroid disorders should be considered.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm 31 have an ovarian cyst on right ovary, have had 3 pregnancies and had a tubal ligation after the last pregnancy. My children are ages 10, 5 & 2. After my second pregnancy my cycles still came when they were supposed to but I was having very little flow and massive cramping. All the other symptoms were still pretty tolerable. But after this last pregnancy things have gotten so much worse. My normal cycle lasts 5 days (1st two days are heavy, 3rd in between, last two light spotting).
