Common Questions and Answers about Menstrual period prolonged

period

Avatar n tn First of all, calm down. :) These FSH tests are not necessarily that accurate. There are lots of women who have high FSH levels and are still menstruating regularily. Conversely, there are lots of women who have low FSH levels and should be having periods, having none. FSH levels are "guides only" and should be repeated at differing stages of your cycles rather than based on one test level.
Avatar n tn I have a prolonged menstrual cycle that lasts up to 2 weeks. Heavy bleeding the first few days and then just light period about 2 weeks after. Some days it looks like it is almost gone with brownish older looking blood and then suddenly it is bright fresh blood again. I went to a physician who specializes in alternative medicine and he gave me natural anti fungal herbs, Vitamin D, fish oil for inflammation, a multi vitamin and medical grade probiotics (450 billion live organisms).
Avatar n tn February's period was practically non-existent with only 1 day of barely noticeable spotting. March's period was very weak; but more than February's. Yet, as of April... I'm back to my normal, consistent periods. The only thing that my doctor said was that he was reluctant to put me on hormone replacement because I "... wasn't there yet" and that I should drink lots of water. Like you, I was left a little puzzled.
Avatar f tn This past year I've been experiencing heavy prolonged irregular menstrual (non painful) periods. I've always had irregular periods since age 11 but in the last few years it has gotten more irregular and more prolonged. (Sometimes lasting a little more than 2 weeks!) Also, I've developed onychomycosis. (Fungal infection on big toe nail) I have horizontal ridges on only 1 of my big toes.
Avatar m tn As I said, most doctors are aware that Yaz or Yasmin can cause blood clots and that he has given you this to try and control your excessive menstrual period is irresponsible.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am 20 years old and can't get rid of my period!! About 3 months ago I started my period and 2 weeks later I was still on it. I don't have insurance so I went to the ER. They put me on birth control and said this should stop it, well it didn't I began to bleed heavier and clot, so I went back to the ER. They put me on a different pill and said the other one was to strong. I am still bleeding, this has been 3 months now, without a break!!
Avatar f tn Hi! After a delayed period, a prolonged bleeding can be a miscarriage even if the pregnancy test was negative. This can be confirmed by a blood pregnancy test and usually needs medication or dilatation and curettage to stop the bleeding.
Avatar n tn I would think that anytime you skip one or more months of getting a period, there is something not functioning properly but it could be so many different things that I can't begin to limit them to what you may be going through. At your age though (out of your teenage years), you should be getting normal cycles. Do you get a yearly PAP smear at an OB/GYN or nurse practioner of one? If not, this is definitely one reason to go to an OB/GYN to get this checked out.
Avatar n tn He said (but her chronic pain management physician disagrees) that prolonged use of fentinol can cause extreme nausea, curable only by ceasing taking fentinol. Can anyone help in this regard? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I had a normal 4 day cycle starting December 5th. I then started a week after my period ended on December 16th. Ever since then, I've been having my period. It's been heavy and slow. It will stop every now and then. For only a day or just a few hours. I haven't had time or been in my home town to make an appointment to go to the doctors. It's been 5 weeks and 1 day since I've been bleeding. I'm worried something could be wrong and was wondering what causes this kind of bleeding?
Avatar f tn This anemia can cause heavy or prolonged period. However, other causes of prolonged periods should be investigated before this conclusion is reached. A prolonged bleeding of any kind from the vagina can be due to a sore or ulcer in vagina as you see in Herpes or otherwise, endometritis or infection of endometrium of uterus, cervicitis or infection of cervix, fibroids, vaginal infections, vaginal polyp, endometriosis and cancer of either cervix, uterus or ovary.
Avatar n tn her gyn put her on a birth control called Fermin to try to regulate her period and since she started the birth control she has had her period. she istarted her period on November 16 and has not stopped yet. Is this normal with being on birth control for the first time. Please help me I am desperate don't know if she is ok. all doctors can say is that the first year of her period they are usually irregular but have your period for 1 full month I think that is crazy.
Avatar f tn on the 11th-12th of March it was light blood then continue to spotting, very light just to see it when i wipe it..then on the 21 March it was heavy again as the same menstrual period...is this the effect of drugs that i took? Avatar f tn My menstrual cycles since stopping the oral contraceptive (May 2010) have been progressively longer and longer. More specifically since May I have had 4 periods with duration of 33, 35, 46, 54 days. I have had an ultrasound where the dr saw some cysts and he suggested polycystic ovaries. My hormone tests though came out normal. I cannot see any pattern in those and I have read that longer than 35 days possibly indicate unovulation, is it true?
Avatar n tn I finally got it again during the last week of August, at which point I went on Ortho-tri-Cyclen Lo to regulate my menstrual cycle. A week after my period was finished, which was last Thursday August 28th, I got my period AGAIN to my surprise. I felt very sick, very nauseas, with a bad headache and constantly felt like I was going to pass out.
Avatar f tn I will tell you I'm still a virgin. Plus when my period finally leaves, I still get cramps and bloating that hurt tremendously, and I get full at meals very quickly. My period after that goes away for about 1 year, maybe 6 months before it's back with avengence. I do not have medical insurance to see a doctor, so I was hoping someone here could help me...
Avatar n tn My question relates to the duration of the recovery period after an episode of complicated migraine accompanied by hemiparesis. Five weeks ago my wife had a sudden, thunder-like, migraine attack during a meeting. She came back home and rested the whole evening with Advil. The next morning she woke up with her lips stretched to the right and still a very strong migraine. OK! we opted for the ER. She was seen right away and they give her Maxoran for the headache.

Avatar n tn I have never noticed much of an odor with my period, up until last month and now today. It is absolutely revolting!!! The blood has gone from being a lightish red to a deepish red-brown and it's kinda gooey and ickey. I have not experienced many vaginal infections of any type in my life (I'm 38), so I'm very concerned about this smell. I tried using the 3-day Monostat, but it appears to not have worked. I'm really scared about this abrupt change in the odor.
Avatar m tn I was having protected intercourse with a girl who was on her period, the condom was ok I checked it after I withdrew and there was no blood on the part of the penis that it was on, so obviously all ok with the condom..however on the part of the penis and on the testicles (balls) there was some blood and then when I put my boxers back on the blood got on them..
Avatar n tn I've been in hospital for it, but the doctors were not able to figure out what is wrong. I don't get my period because i have the coil that stops the bleeding, and I'm a haemophiliac i don't know what to do any more.
Avatar n tn I have irregular period cycle. Ave period length is 2 weeks, with 2-3 weeks "break" in between. It causes my calendar to mess up (we're trying to conceive). Is this menstrual cycle normal? Any advice re timing?
Avatar f tn Menstrual changes seen are spotting, or abnormal menstrual bleeding, as a side effect of Clomid. Prolonged periods have not been observed. Hormonal changes, any infection, polyp, endometriosis, fibroids, cysts can lead to prolonged bleeding. The right course of treatment depends on the cause of your prolonged menstrual bleeding. Seek medical help. A detailed examination and work up may help. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn I used to have a 28-30 day cycle, period would last 2-3 days and would be light with no pain..ovulation would occur on or around day 13-15 (going by changes in cervical discharge). Since December I have dropped to a 23-25 day cycle with lots of pain, heavier flow and clots which I have never had before, period lasts 4 days with ovulation occurring (again going by changes in discharge) on day 6. Can anyone relate to this? Should I be concerned? Is 'the change' on its way?
