Common Questions and Answers about Menstrual period prolonged

period

Avatar n tn Menopause is having gone 12 months without a period or the cessation forever of all menstrual bleeding. It does not take into account the 8 to 10 years prior to that "moment in time" (the 12 month period free point) in which we are going through all of the changes called, Perimenopause. So, for your doc to say that you're "far away" from it is a bit of a joke because you're already going through the prep stages for menopause!
Avatar n tn I have irregular period cycle. Ave period length is 2 weeks, with 2-3 weeks "break" in between. It causes my calendar to mess up (we're trying to conceive). Is this menstrual cycle normal? Any advice re timing?
Avatar n tn ...what's going on is that you're in the biological transitional phase known as Peri-Menopause. Changes in your menstrual cycle and menstrual period can vary tremendously. Cycles may be longer or shorter or fall into a "no-pattern' pattern. Menstrual bleeding may be heavier or lighter, more prolonged or shorter, or entirely absent. Variable and declining hormone production is the cause. I've been going through the same thing, myself... and, I totally empathize!
Avatar f tn There are really not many options available if you do not see a doctor, as your heavy, prolonged menstrual flows and irregular periods could be balanced by oral contraceptive pills, which are commonly prescribed for severe dysmenorrhea such as in your case. It will help to regulate your periods (monthly) and reduce the PMS effects you are experiencing. These can only be prescribed by a doctor, though.
Avatar n tn I would think that anytime you skip one or more months of getting a period, there is something not functioning properly but it could be so many different things that I can't begin to limit them to what you may be going through. At your age though (out of your teenage years), you should be getting normal cycles. Do you get a yearly PAP smear at an OB/GYN or nurse practioner of one? If not, this is definitely one reason to go to an OB/GYN to get this checked out.
Avatar n tn It can cause irregular bleeding or spotting, heavy or prolonged bleeding, or your menstrual bleeds to stop altogether. Avatar f tn My period lasted for a month. It stopped for 5 days, then restarted today. Could I have had a miscarriage? Please help.
Avatar n tn Recently, I was told something similar. About 1 month after my 53rd birthday, which was earlier this year, I noticed that my timely, regular periods were a bit haywire. February's period was practically non-existent with only 1 day of barely noticeable spotting. March's period was very weak; but more than February's. Yet, as of April... I'm back to my normal, consistent periods.
Avatar f tn My period has always been normal and regular but I didn't get my usual period this month. I spotted at the beginning of the month for about 1 week and then about 2 weeks later I got my period. I took 2 tablets of naproxen 500mg for the treatment of headache the day before my period started and haven't taken them again. The bleeding was normal for the first week but I continued to spot afterwards and now I'm on my third week of spotting.
Avatar f tn I kept drinking my lettuce tomato smoothie twice a day, but then my next period came on the 6th of august (about 1 week after my prolonged period have stopped). My doctor prescribed me profertil 5 mg to be taken on day 2-6 of my period. He said it is To help with my ovulation, since the length of end of my prolonged period to this period was quite short, there is still indication of anovulation.

Avatar f tn Iron deficiency anemia is usually caused by heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding. Some women are more prone to becoming anemic than others. Eating iron rich foods and/or taking an iron supplement would be a good idea if your iron is indeed low. Low iron may explain your dizziness but not sure it would cause fever or vomiting. I've heard of women vomiting at certain times in their menstrual cycle. I'm not sure what causes it.
Avatar f tn Hello, It can be due to menometrorrhagia. Prolonged and abnormally heavy menstrual bleeding is called menorrhagia. This condition is called menorrhagia. Normally the period stays for 3-7 days and comes in 21 to 35 days. However sometimes normal periods can be irregular. The causes of menorrhagia could be due to bleeding disorders, vitamin K deficiency, excess usage of aspirin, hormonal imbalance, stress, fibroids, recent intra uterine devices (like copper-T)etc.

3057436 tn?1359314638 I keep getting cramps but it feels more like i need to go to the toilet... Could those be braxton hicks?
Avatar f tn I have been bleeding NON-STOP for almost 40 days now! It isn't very heavy, but sometimes, when I'm moving or just sitting, it suddenly gushes and produces large clots. I'm not having "typical" period pains, but I have very sore hips - I don't know if this is connected though.
Avatar n tn The bc can deffinatly mess up your cycle
Avatar f tn In addition, with deep penetration, the cervix can be bumped, causing cramping with expulsion of some left-over menstrual blood (or early blood if your period is about to arrive). The cramping may be due to this, or it could be that you're ovulating. In mid-cycle during ovulation, some women experience some mild cramping from time to time. Again, if this continues, see your gynecologist. And be sure to use lots of lubrication and don't have p-v sex until you're very turned on.
Avatar f tn My menstrual cycles since stopping the oral contraceptive (May 2010) have been progressively longer and longer. More specifically since May I have had 4 periods with duration of 33, 35, 46, 54 days. I have had an ultrasound where the dr saw some cysts and he suggested polycystic ovaries. My hormone tests though came out normal. I cannot see any pattern in those and I have read that longer than 35 days possibly indicate unovulation, is it true?
