Avatar f tn Hello, Pregnancy occurs only during the time of ovulation. Ovulation is the release of a single, mature egg from a follicle that developed in the ovary. It usually occurs regularly, around day 14 of a 28-day menstrual cycle. Once released, the egg is capable of being fertilized for 12 to 48 hours before it begins to disintegrate. This is the most fertile period of your cycle: during ovulation your chances of conception are highest.
712964 tn?1287076618 In general (textbook) based on a 28 day menstrual cycle you will ovulate about the 14th day...then you should get your period 14 days later. The egg survives for about 12 to 24 hours . So it's within this time that the sperm has to meet egg. Your fertility window is about 2 to 3 days before you ovulate. So you could essentially have intercourse two days before you ovulate and get pregnant. Sperm lives for about 48 to 72 hours.
Avatar n tn Most people with regular 28-30day cycles ovulate between days 10-16, but usually day 14 for the majority. Start testing 10 days after the first day your last menstrual cycle and test the same time each day. It's better not to use the first morning sample, unlike pregnancy tests. One you see the test is positive, you'll be ovulating within 24-48 hours, so those days are your best chances to conceive.

Avatar n tn Based on a 28 day menstrual cycle, you should start testing using the Ovulation kit 5 days out from your likely ovulation date which is Day 14 of your menstrual cycle. Therefore you should start testing on Day 7 of your menstrual cycle. You should test every day from Day 7 at the same time of the day to ensure the most accurate results.
Avatar f tn this “fertile window” comprises the five days before ovulation and the day of ovulation itself.1–3 Just as the day of ovulation varies from cycle to cycle so does the timing of the six fertile days. Reliable methods to predict ovulation are lacking, therefore predicting the fertile window is also unreliable. Clinical guidelines suggest the cycle days during which the fertile window is most likely to occur, but these guidelines are outdated.

Avatar n tn Hi. During the second half of the menstrual cycle (after ovulation and leading up to menstruation), estrogen levels are higher in the woman's body. This results in retention of fluid in the breasts, and in the proliferation of the breast glands. If a mammogram were done at this time, the breasts may appear to be denser and contain areas which may mimic the appearance of a breast lump.
Avatar n tn Given that I was on the pill for so long, does it take time for my cycle to normalize? I have no idea what the length of my cycle was prior to starting the pill. Thanks for any advice.
Avatar f tn While occasionally two eggs are released during ovulation, A woman may gear up to ovulate more than once in her cycle but not actually ovulate each time. For example, sometimes a woman will have an ovulation test show up positive more than once during her cycle; however, a positive ovulation test does not guarantee that ovulation will occur. Women can gear up to ovulate and then not actually release an egg.
Avatar f tn A woman typically ovulates about midway through the cycle. Therefore in a 28 day cycle a woman will ovulate ~day 14. Since your cycle is longer you will probably ovulate around day 17 or 18. To help detect when you ovulate you can try a number of techniques. Avatar f tn Ovulation does not occur during your menstrual cycle. Because the sperm can live in the body from 3-5 days, pregnancy can occur from having intercourse DURING your period. Estimated ovulation occurs anyhwere between 11-21 days following your menstrual cycle, or 12-16 from when you expect your next cycle. However there is no one way to pin point ovulation. It generally differs from woman to woman. All the best.

1746744 tn?1311536352 The release of the egg is called ovulation, which is the fertile time of the cycle. Having intercourse during this time should result in a pregnancy. Since the exact time of ovulation is hard to predict without a fertility monitor, your chances of becoming pregnant are higher if you start having sex 3 days before your predicted day of ovulation and continue for 3 days after. There are no over the counter medications or vitamins that will increase fertility.
