Common Questions and Answers about Menstrual cycle after ovarian cystectomy

Avatar f tn Hi, I had an ultrasound done for abnormal menstrual bleeding and they found that I had a septated right ovarian cyst that is 5.5x4.7x4.9 cm large, minimal fluid in the cul de sac, and a thickened cystic endometrial lining with a significant amount of vascular flow, I have another ultrasound coming up and I was just curious what all of this means and what would be the next step if this cyst is still there? Is this cyst large? Am I at any risk of this cyst being malignant? Thank you!
Avatar m tn I recently (Jan 30th) had a "Laparoscopic Ovarian Cystectomy" done on me that took not only the cyst (which was the size of a baby melon), but also my ovary and fallopian tube. I just started my period today and I am a little curious as what happens.Meaning, will the pain be so intense that I will be in tears? Is the ovary I do have going to be doing a lot of work?? How long do periods usual last with only one ovary? I'm new at this and I'm a little nervous.
Avatar m tn Ovarian cysts can alter bleeding patterns (since they can alter hormones) but you are also of perimenopausal age when the menstrual cycle goes haywire so that may explain your erratic bleeding too. If this cyst needs to be surgically removed, the frozen section done while you are in the operating room should dictate the course of surgery.
963857 tn?1247221541 It probably doesn't matter. They didn't ask you when your next cycle may be so they probably don't need to work around it.
Avatar f tn I came back to my ob august for the routine ultrasound and my doctor saw another 4cm cyst on my remaining ovary. She told me to wait and come back after 2 menstrual cycles. Question: does anyone have same condition? Or do you know any reason or cause of this? Im worried and I don't have any child yet. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I do not wish to come off as sounding rude. But this is an ovarian cancer forum, and asking questions about pregnancy is really not appropriate. There are many young women here, that due to ovarian cancer, are no longer able to have children. There is a womens health forum and if i am not mistaken there is also a pregnancy forum. Questions like this are better left to a different forum.
Avatar n tn what kind of laxative can I take 24 hours after having an ovarian cystectomy and I if I have slight abdominal swelling from the surgery
1038205 tn?1252874143 hi im an 18 year old girl and have been told that i have a cyst inside my left ovary, it's 6inchs, and im having an ovarian cystectomy on the 24th september this year. they haven't told me much about how they are going to do it, and if they need to remove the whole left ovary. i'm sooo scared i might not be able to have children coz all that i have ever wanted is my own baby. just want to know if it will affect my chances of concieveing.
Avatar f tn The CA125 test is not accurate at diagnosing ovarian cancer. Benign conditions, including harmless ovarian cysts, can cause elevated results. I'm surprised they even did a CA125. If you do indeed need surgery, the frozen section done while you are in the operating room should dictate whether or not the ovary needs to be removed. If it's not cancerous (only about 13 out of 1,000 women get ovarian cancer) you would not need your ovary removed.
Avatar n tn ve had pain on left side and ultrasound said 24mm x 20mm x 20mm avascular solid looking lesion. No adnexal mass, had ovarian cancer tests and came back ok. Getting a lapascopy in October, should I be worried as Im anxious about what this lesion is. The statement from ultrasound said small mass lesion, anyone else had this.
Avatar f tn One potential advantage of using an AMH test as a marker of ovarian reserve is that it does not seem to change over the course of the menstrual cycle. FSH, on the other hand, must be measured on Day 2 or Day 3 of the menstrual cycle or on Day 10 if it is drawn as part of a clomid challenge test. Several factors lead scientists to believe that AMH might be a good marker for ovarian reserve. For example, AMH, like ovarian reserve, decreases with age.
Avatar f tn Earlier, I have had irregular menstrual cycles (anywhere from 23 to 30 days), and now since 1 years severe cramps, sudden pain at abdomen, and pain during intercourse. I have been concerned for a while and recently had to insist that my doctor prescribe an ultrasound. Apparently I have a paraovarian cyst (6 to 6.5 cm) near my right ovary.
Avatar f tn t cause any symptoms. In fact, corpus luteum cysts appear toward the end of the menstrual cycle, last into early pregnancy, and then usually resolve over a period of time without any special treatment.
Avatar f tn HI. How long has the cyst been there? When cysts are discovered the doctors will normally observe it for up to 3 months to see if it disappears itself, which a lot of cysts can. If it is causing severe pain, not resolving, or if it is suspicious in any way the cyst may be removed or drained. Most ovarian cysts are harmless.
Avatar n tn I have irregular period cycle. Ave period length is 2 weeks, with 2-3 weeks "break" in between. It causes my calendar to mess up (we're trying to conceive). Is this menstrual cycle normal? Any advice re timing?
Avatar f tn I posted about this on another site and I was told to see a gynecologic oncologist and not to trust an obgyn with doing a surgery. My obgyn told me I needed a laparoscopic cystectomy. He also did a CA-125 which came back 110 and my CEA was 5.0. My obgyn suspects endometriosis. Please help me. I am so nervous and scared!
Avatar f tn The ca-125 test is not accurate at diagnosing ovarian cancer. Benign conditions including benign ovarian cysts can cause an elevated result / false positive. Ovarian cancer is rare especially if you do not have a family history. Is there anyone in your family who has had ovarian cancer? Most ovarian cysts are benign / non-cancerous and resolve on their own, no intervention needed. However since yours is on the large side it may need to be surgically removed.
Avatar f tn Did the surgeon who did your cystectomy tell you if he saw any other problems besides the ovarian cyst? If he didn't give you any information, you may want to follow up with him/her and possibly get a copy of your medical records. If nothing unusual was seen during surgery then there may not be any damage from the chlamydia.
