The mildest form of menstrual cramps are sometimes just a minor discomfort, a heavy feeling in the abdominal region. Women suffering the most extreme menstrual cramps are sometimes forced to change their regular routine for a few days. In primary dysmenorrhea, there is no underlying physical condition causing the pain.
Avatar f tn (1) Are PMS and Primary Dysmenorrhea different names for the same condition? They cause lots of the same problems like nausea & vomiting, diarrohea, diziness, fatigue, cramps, headaches and backache. (3) I get very shaky, achy and heavy-feeling legs during bad periods.
2055843 tn?1332427915 Hello- I'm not sure how old you are but I'm 27 and have had/have the same types of cramps that you do. I believe the medical term for it is dysmenorrhea. As for it being normal...ehh lol, I guess it's "normal" as in it happens to many women and isn't usually life threatening in any way. However, my personal opinion is that normal isn't always good, and this is one of those cases.
Avatar f tn primary and secondary. The primary dysmenorrhea is seen within 2 years of onset of menstruation and stays for 1 to 2 days of each cycle. The secondary dysmenorrhea is due to pelvic inflammatory disease, fibroids, endometriosis (abnormality of lining of uterus), pelvic tumors, and intra uterine device (like copper-T) etc. You should consult gynecologist for internal examination and other test needed to detect it's cause.

Avatar f tn Hello. I'm 22 years old and for the last few years (since about 16), I've been getting cycles that last from 3-4 months. During this time the pain is so horrible that I can't even move without screaming. Also, I've been getting blood clots the size of my fist, sometimes larger. I will tell you I'm still a virgin. Plus when my period finally leaves, I still get cramps and bloating that hurt tremendously, and I get full at meals very quickly.
Avatar f tn Hello, If you suffer from dysmenorrhea (painful menses) or irregular menses, yes, the birth control pill can be used to help regulate your menstrual cycle and improve dysmenorrhea. In your case, having had a tubal ligation, the indication would not be for birth control but for the symptoms you describe and that is fine. I'm not sure what you mean by taking four pills. You should take it as you otherwise would: one pill at the same time each day.
Avatar m tn do you take oral contraceptives, for example? (assuming it is primary dysmenorrhea and not secondary). Statistics show that contraceptive pills and NSAIDS given to women almost always works for primary dysmenorrhea and when it doesn't, doctors begin looking for other causes making it secondary dysmenorrhea. Do you use heating pads, warm baths, abdominal massage to help??

2011937 tn?1328058785 This is especially important for women who suffer from menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea) because cramps are caused by excessively strong contractions of the uterus. Magnesium helps the powerful uterine muscles relax, reducing cramping. Magnesium's muscle-relaxing powers also help relieve the PMS or menstrual headaches many women experience. Menstrual fatigue is another common complaint of women that magnesium can help relieve, though the exact mechanism is uncertain.
