Avatar m tn It is widely suggested that a Mediterranean based diet is best for cholesterol.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to go on the Miami Mediterranean Diet, to lower my levels. I bought the book, but too many of the recipes don't fit my taste or lifestyle. Exercise and weight loss can also help.
973741 tn?1342342773 Everyone is different for what they need or what works. I recently compiled some Mediterranean recipes and have some DASH diet recipes that I use. My friend is doing Whole 30. That seems hard to stick to. What diets have you tried and how did they work?
Avatar f tn It's not that I don't like the diet, it's that it doesn't exist -- the diet cited as Mediterranean isn't, as I keep repeating, there are different cultures all along the area and they don't eat the same but all tend to eat healthier than Americans do. But it's not a diet, and there are some problems in it, such as an extreme abundance of nightshades and so a lot of arthritis. That's why they did the nightshade studies in Italy -- the Mediterranean Diet.
Avatar m tn I hear you loud and clear. Exercise is meant to build muscle which weighs more than fat so you may be getting rid of some fat but staying the same weight. Looks like you might to have to cut down on calorie intake and make different food choices, I know I had to after menopause. One possible side effect of Euthyrox is increased appetite another is weight loss so who know what effects it's having on you? The Mediterranean Diet has lots of good suggestions and recipes all over the www.
Avatar m tn I'm curious when you say Mediterranean diet but say no wine? That kind of rules out that diet, which is partly based on the antioxidants contained in red wine. It's also very high in olive oil and fatty fish, which should give you pretty good HDL levels -- in fact, looking at the numbers, your HDL isn't all that low, at least from what you report -- a couple fish oil or flax seed capsules a day should elevate it.
203342 tn?1328737207 Apparently, they follow the Mediterranean diet of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, olive oil, olives, etc., which is supposed to be a good diet, even if you're not trying to lose weight. What do you all think?
1858622 tn?1319813203 The South Beach Diet is a good option. I prefer the Mediterranean Diet as it is high in plant sterols and good fats and has been proven to lower cholesterol levels. Here is a link, take a look; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediterranean_diet This gives you a couple options. I hope this helps!
Tbd It might be easier and more positive to think about what you CAN eat. The Mediterranean Diet has been shown to be helpful for those with diabetes and prediabetes... here is some information from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app on how to try it: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn I've never been a proponent for any kind of diet pills, particularly, the ones like phentermine that can cause issues with heart rates, anxiety, etc. I'm in the same boat you are and I'm trying very hard to lose the weight I gained when my thyroid wigged out on me; I'm also "borderline" type II diabetes. Do make sure your thyroid hormones are at a point that's good for YOU, not just "in range".
Avatar f tn Hi I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and found out I have gallstones. They have told me to eat a fat free and dairy freediet for the next 12 weeks when iI will be checked again as surgery whilst I'm pregnant is risky. I am having a really hard time coming up with recipes and options to fill myself up, so far nothing I make had any flavour and it is putting me off eating. Does anyone have any recipes they could share?
Avatar n tn Has any one else been placed on a low sodium diet by their baby doctor? I was told I have high blood pressure and just as a caution I should go on a low sodium diet. So I've been Googling recipes and things but I'm not finding to many. Does any one has some advice about the diet or some amazing recipes? That would be amazing!!
Avatar f tn 205 is a little high and I would recommend a low fat, heart healthy diet such as the mediterranean diet. If it went up 30 points then it sounds likely to be dietary changes. Luckily, your HDL is very high. All-in-all, this is a pretty good lipid panel if you don't have known coronary disease.
Avatar n tn Can anyone give me tips on a good diet plan or food to eat to lose fat and weight?
1156486 tn?1262394803 THANK YOU for the information. I was able to find the cookbook and that made me feel a LOT better about the "diet" thing. I also finally realized that it's a LOW idodine not a NO idodine diet. Yesterday (Monday) was my grocery shopping day and today (Tuesday) is going to be my "cooking and freezing" day because Wednesday will be the day I go off my meds. I have received wonderful advice on this site and I am very thankful for people taking the time to write to me.
973741 tn?1342342773 What do you think is the best way to eat healthfully and manage your weight and health goals? Paleo? Low Carb? Mediterranean? Vegan? Dash? All in or in moderation? Intermittent fasting? Supplements? It is overwhelming to really dig deep so it helps me to hear what works for others.
Avatar f tn Can anyone recommend a post Nissen Fundoplication diet and recipes to ensure proper nutrition?
2143641 tn?1396678143 I wasn't thinking of an ideal diet, something more theoretical, like if someone had to stock up on food for emergency.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the advice but I actually follow a rigid diet with all you have mentioned above! Don't forget I am a Mediterranean with a healthy diet based on olive oil and fish. My problem is probably hereditary, because i have some relatives (my mum brother and his son) who had severe heart problems, the first died from heart attack and the second did a double by-pass at his 40ies...
