348629 tn?1212325673 I don't know why you can't eat grapefruit and take some medicines. I think it may be because of the acidity.
Avatar m tn Hi I did a search and found this, it appears it is just the grapefruit juice. My Mom was told not to eat grapefruit with her Synthroid. I think it can increase that dose as well. http://www.livestrong.

1322157 tn?1279656681 Someone on antibiotics might end up with diarrhea or could be ill longer than usual because the some drugs won’t work as well as they should. A heart patient might not get the lowered blood pressure that a medication should deliver, or the heart’s rhythms might become irregular if an anti-arrhythmia drug can’t do its job. The juice could also affect the effectiveness of a woman’s hormone-replacement-therapy medication.
Avatar m tn The following drugs are affected by CYP3A4 inhibition with grapefruit compounds: The benzodiazepines triazolam, midazolam, alprazolam and quazepam[2] Ritonavir inhibits CYP3A4 preventing the metabolism of protease inhibitors[3] Additional drugs found to be affected by grapefruit juice include, but are not limited to: Statins such as atorvastatin, lovastatin, and simvastatin with the exception of Pravastatin which is unaffected.
Avatar f tn But something else -- you say you were adding grapefruit essential oil to water. Is that right? Most essential oils are not edible, they are used for topical purposes. Some are edible, but if you want to add grapefruit to your water you add grapefruit juice or concentrate to your water, not essential oil. Folks, if you don't know how to use traditional medicine, do your homework first.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that grapefruit can interact and increase the effect of Zoloft and Prozac but not paxil. The protein involved with Paxil is not affected by grapefruit. You can ask your local pharmacist about this as well.
1106767 tn?1315050974 m not on clomid but I have issues with not nearly enough cm. Does it not matter what kind of robitussin you use except that it should contain guaif.... (that word)?
Avatar n tn I have not heard that about Lime Juice. I know some put some Lemon Juice in their water to help with digestion, and some will eat a grapefruit a day for weight loss, but, being these are all "citrus" and "acid" I would be very careful, especially if you are susceptible to stomach problems or have an ulcer. Also, if on certain blood pressure meds, be careful, citrus fruit can cause a bad reaction if taken with these drugs.
Avatar f tn I'm sure you already know this, alcohol is not a good idea.Beside that grapefruit seems to be a biggy to stay away from when taking an onslot of many different types of medication.

Avatar f tn Being a health food addict, this is what I eat. I had noticed I had not felt good for a couple of days but did not think that much about it. After about 3 days I knew something wasn't right with my body. I went to the emergency room at my local hospital and after many blood tests I found out that I had too much potassium in my body. I was fortunate the level was not that high. It was an easy cure and I'am fine, (no damage to me or my new liver), but I wanted to warn everyone about this.
463841 tn?1207438535 I used to eat grapefruit all the time too until this fact was written on my prescription bottle (on a tiny little tab, mind you). Now, does that mean you can NEVER eat grapefruit while taking this drug or does it mean don't eat grapefruit a few hours before or after taking Xanax? And what does it do, interfere with the absorption of the Xanax, or what?
Avatar m tn Hmm, sounds tricky. If you wore a condom then you should have been ok. It could have split a little and you may not have realised or the yeast could have gotten on some other way. Id still keep pestering the doctors until you can discover whats causing it and how to help treat it. Good luck.

Avatar n tn No, you do not have to have a hysterectomy. They can remove the fibroids or treat you with medications that should shrink them. I have no clue which medicines. You may want to post this in the fertility forum as well! http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn Since this is not practical for individuals who are taking a medication daily, they should not consume grapefruit juice when taking medications that are affected by grapefruit juice. The grapefruit juice-drug interaction can lead to unpredictable and hazardous levels of certain important drugs.
