967168 tn?1477584489 Patients with atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia, for example, may require continued use of antiarrhythmic medications. The type and severity of an arrhythmia may also require more invasive surgery in order to correct the problem. Ablation is a procedure to destroy very small, carefully selected parts of the heart that are causing tachycardia – an abnormally fast heartbeat. Ablation enables the heart to beat more slowly and normally again.
Avatar f tn However, it is important to understand that ventricular tachycardia (or ventricular tachyarrhythmias, that is a joint term for ventricular tachycardia, ventricular flutter and to some degree ventricular fibrillation, though almost all the time used for ventricular tachycardia) can manifest in different ways and be caused by different mechanisms, some of them almost completely benign, some of them life threatening.
Avatar f tn It said I had sinus bradycardia down to 43 bmp and sinus tachycardia to 144 bpm. I also had ventricular bigemeny, trigemeny, and couplets without ventricular tachycardia. So, are the new arrythmias better or worse than the SVT? Is the treatment the same? I'm on 50mg Mepropolol twice daily. And, is it normal that my BP has actually RISEN on this medication? It used to be "normal", but now runs in the 140s over 40s.
Avatar f tn At my followup, he told me he thought I had either supra-ventricular tachycardia with aberrancy or non-sustained ventricular tachycardia and has referred me to an electrophysiologist and my appointment is the end of July. In 2006, I had a quart of fluid removed from around my heart after several years of not being able to breathe. No reason was found for the excess fluid.
Avatar n tn Digoxin should generally be avoided in patients with preserved left ventricular systolic function, although it has been used for ventricular rate control in the subgroup of patients with chronic atrial fibrillation. Cardiovascular side effects have been reported the most frequently.
Avatar f tn Sinus Tachycardia, Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia, Supra Ventricular Tachycardia, Paroxysmal Supra Ventricular Tachycardia. These rhythm disturbances are fairly frequent, and for the large part, accelerated rhythms that originate from the top of the heart (Supra means above, Supraventricular means above the ventricles). All the rhythms above originate on the top of your heart. Please post the results of your doctor's visit and any medications prescribed.
Avatar f tn Ventricular tachycardia is an ominous sign in patients with decreased ventricular function and others with arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD). If you have had an echocardiogram showing normal LV and RV function, most likely this is not a life threatening concern and you may only need a beta blocker ( which may be causing all of your symptoms). If not then you may need an echocardiogram and a fat suppresion MRI to assess for the presence of ARVD.
Avatar f tn But depression was getting the best of her and Paxil 25mg became part of her daily medications. Prior to Paxil her heart mantained at "healthy" 95-110 bpm.
Avatar m tn Dear Doctor; iam 34 yrs old and before two weeks ago i got irregular heart palpation reach 234 rate per minute; this is the first time but iam type of drinking coffee and smoking hubbly bubbly.
Avatar n tn However, in young patients with ventricular tachycardia it is common no structural heart disease may be found. Two forms of ventricular tachycardia are commonly found and they are right ventricular outflow tract and left posterior septal fascicular ventricular tachycardia. Both of these tachycardia are repetitive monomorphic ventricular tachycardias likely due to an abnormal automatic focus amenable to rf ablation.

Avatar f tn Both my father and grandfather past away due to complications with ventricular tachycardia and because they have both passed i don't know at what age their symptoms started. I had an EKG that showed flattened t waves and a echocardiogram that showed no plague in my arterias and wel basically a completly healthy heart. I had a complete health panel and my thyroid, cholestoral, electrolydes and potassium are normal.
Avatar f tn Uaually an EKG is the medium to diagnosis of ventricular tachycardia is made based on the rhythm seen on either a 12 lead EKG or a telemetry rhythm strip. Additionally, for consideration is whether there is a past history of a heart attack (heart cell negrosis...scarred tissue does not permit electrical conduction), congested heart failure or recent angina (chest pain from lack of oxygen to heart cells). In cardiac ablation, a form of energy renders a small section of damaged tissue inactive.
407651 tn?1224189895 i was wondering whether these devices may help prevent tachycardia i get from the pots. as with my kidney disease many of the medications are unsuitable for me. i just wondering if anyone knows anything.
Avatar m tn How rare is it to have both supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular tachycardia. I had an ablation for the ventricular tachycardia but it appeared that I have supraventricular tachycardia. My doctor didn't tell me I had supraventricular tachycardia but when I was given the report I saw that I was diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia and my ventricular tachycardia was gone.
Avatar n tn If it was ventricular tachycardia, that means you probably have normal heart non sustained ventricular tachycardia. If the shortness of breath is new, I would talk to your doctor. If I saw a similar patient in the office, I would do an interview, physical exam, EKG and then probably a stress test and echocardiogram. If all tests came back normal, I would encourage to continue to exercise and take the stairs. Normal heart VT is not dangerous and exercise is a good thing.
Avatar f tn -- Long QT syndrome is a genetic mutation in one of several ion channels in the heart muscle, which leads to prolonged QT and an increased risk of sudden cardiac death (ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation). This is a rare inherited disorder which most likely had affected other family members.
Avatar m tn Within five minutes of meeting me/seeing my test he diagnosed me with Ventricular Tachycardia and that I should get an ablation immediately. Nervous about the operation (I am healthy 25 yr old female marathon runner), I decided to get some blood work done from regular physician. My test revealed very low ferritin levels and blood count, my doctor told me that my blood volume was 66% of what it needed to be.
Avatar n tn If these concurrent beats number three, they are called triplets and are considered as a brief run of non-sustained Ventricular tachycardia or NS-VT. Examples: Bigeminal premature ventricular contractions = Normal, PVC, Normal, PVC... Trigeminal premature atrial contractions = Normal, Normal, PAC, Normal, Normal, PAC... Bigeminal Couplets: Normal, Normal, PVC, PVC, Normal, Normal, PVC, PVC... NS-VT: Normal, Normal, PVC, PVC, PVC, PVC, Normal, Normal, PVC....
Avatar f tn Hi, It is my understanding that Sinus Tachycardia denotes a heart rate above 100 beats per minute. Exercise can and often raises the heart above 100 BPM, and even this exercise induced elevated rhythm would be referred to as tachycardia. Sinus Tachycardia can occur from causes other than exercise as well.
Avatar n tn My mother has been diagnosed in hospital with a primary diagnosis of "severe left ventricular failure without clinical evidence of heart failure", and also "self terminating episodes of ventricular tachycardia". She also has vascular dementia and has had a series of TIA's. ECG showed LBBB (old ) with LAD and first degree heart block. Whilst iin she had a couple of episodes of ventricular tachycardia. Treatments have been changed etc.
Avatar f tn Supraventricular which is a tachycardia arising in the top two chambers of the heart, Ventricular Tach which is a tachycardia originating from the bottom two chambers in the heart. Hope this helps to shed some light on your question.
